Former Governor Joins Oil & Gas Exploration Company

Continental Resources appointed former North Dakota Governor Ed Schafer, 65, to its Board. Schafer was elected North Dakota's 30th governor in 1992 and served for two terms. In 2008, he was nominated and confirmed as the U.S. Secretary of Agriculture. During his term as governor, Schafer also served as Chairman of the Interstate Oil and Gas Compact Commission, which is comprised of all energy-producing states. Before his political service, he was the President of Gold Seal, a distributor of household products. Schafer was also the co-founder and CEO of Extend America, a telecommunications company focused on rural connectivity in the Midwest.

Facebook Exec on Fitness Apparel Board

lululemon athletica has appointed Emily White to its Board. Currently, White serves as the Senior Director of Local and Mobile Partnerships at Facebook. Prior to joining Facebook, she held several roles at Google, including Director of Emerging Businesses, Head of North America Online Sales & Operations, and Director of Asia Pacific & Latin America Online Sales & Operations. White also serves on the Board of the National Center for Women in I.T., a non-profit coalition.

Former McAfee CEO Joins Delta Air Lines Board

Delta Air Lines elected David DeWalt, 45, to its Board. Before serving as the CEO of McAfee, DeWalt was the EVP & President of Customer Operations and Content Management Software at EMC. Currently, he is the Chairman of Polycom and a Director at Jive Software. DeWalt was named one of the top five CEOs of publicly traded software companies by Institutional Investor Magazine in 2008. In 2011, he was appointed by President Obama to serve on the National Security and Technology Advisory Council.

Microsoft Director Elected to Board of Avery Dennison

Avery Dennison, an office supplies provider, has appointed Charles Noski, 59, to its Board. Currently, he is the Vice Chairman of Bank of America. In the past, he has served as Bank of America’s CFO. Before Bank of America, he served as Vice Chairman at AT&T, Corporate VP & CFO at Northrop Grumman, and CFO at Hughes Electronics. Noski currently serves on Microsoft’s Board and has previously served on the boards of Air Products & Chemicals, Automatic Data Processing, Morgan Stanley, and Northrop Grumman.

Consulting Firm Selects Former IBM Exec for Board

Arthur Johnson, 63, has joined the Board of Booz Allen Hamilton. Most recently, Johnson served as an SVP at Lockheed Martin. He has held a number of other titles at the Lockheed Martin, including President & COO of the Information & Services Sector, President of the Systems Integration Group, and Group VP for the Federal Systems Group. Earlier in his career, he served as COO & VP of IBM’s Federal Systems Division. He currently serves on the boards of AGL Resources and Eaton.

Former Facebook VP on Board of Real Estate Investment Trust

DuPont Fabros Technology has appointed Jonathan Heiliger, 34, to its Board. Heiliger is the former VP of Technical Operations at Facebook. Before joining Facebook, he was the Director of Site Engineering at Wal-Mart. He has also served as COO of Loudcloud, CTO of GlobalCenter, and VP of Technology for Global Crossing. Currently, Heiliger sits on the boards of Jive Software and Webmonsters.

Dora Vell

Dora Vell is the Managing Partner of Vell Executive Search, a boutique executive search firm in Boston focused on recruiting technology executives and board members. Vell has successfully completed numerous board member and C-level executive searches, including CEOs, COOs, CIOs, and Vice Presidents - at both public and private companies.

Prior to founding the firm in 2005, Vell was a Partner at Heidrick & Struggles' Technology practice for seven years.  Before her career in executive search, she worked at IBM for 11 years, managing software engineering organizations of 100 people and software sales organizations with revenues of $150 million. She has also served as an executive assistant to the CEO of IBM Canada for one year.

Vell holds seven worldwide software patents. She has published several Business of Leadership reports on governance and leadership and has been quoted in numerous articles including The Wall Street Journal, Forbes, Business Week, Fortune, Agenda Week, MSNBC, Mass High Tech, the OPUS for the World Economic Forum, Boston Business Journal, The Globe & Mail, CIO Magazine, and IEEE. She also has been a featured speaker on leadership at numerous conferences and at Columbia University's MBA program.

Vell is a member of the National Association of Corporate Directors (NACD), the Boston CEO Roundtable. She has served on the boards of Framingham State, Entrepreneur's Organization, Goodwill, Mary Centre for developmentally handicapped adults,, and RBC Capital Partners.

She has received an MBA from the University of Toronto, a Master in Computer Science from the University of Waterloo, and a Bachelor in Computer Science from Carleton. She has also completed the MIT Entrepreneurial Master’s program.
