New Regional President at Verizon Wireless


Verizon Wireless announced that Jonathan LeCompte has been named President of the Georgia/Alabama Region. He most recently served as the Director of Retail Sales for the company's Northern California/Nevada/Hawaii Region. LeCompte has been with Verizon Wireless and its legacy companies for nearly 20 years and has served in various sales leadership positions. He is a three-time Verizon Wireless President's Cabinet award honoree.

Mobile Phone Service Provider Hires Former Vodafone Exec

VimpelCom announced that Mikhail Gerchuk, 38, has been selected as the company’s new Group Chief Commercial Officer. He joins VimpelCom after serving as VP and Chief Commercial Officer at Mobile TeleSystems (MTS), one of the leading telecommunications operators in Russia, Eastern Europe, and Central Asia. Prior to joining MTS, Gerchuk was Chief Commercial Officer at Vodafone Malta. He has also worked as an Associate at Booz Allen Hamilton and as a Category Marketing Manager at PepsiCo. Gerchuk was included in the "Top 40 Under 40 in Telecoms" by the Global Telecoms Business magazine in 2010 and 2011. In the past, he has served on the board of directors at Comstar, MGTS, and MTS Ukraine.

Leading Israeli Telecom Operator Appoints CEO


Cellcom Israel announced that Nir Sztern has been elected as the CEO of the company. Most recently, Sztern served as the CEO of Netvision, an identity management provider which was recently acquired by Cellcom. Before joining Netvision, he was Deputy CEO and VP of Marketing at Pelephone Communication, an Israeli cellular operator and one of Cellcom Israel’s biggest competitors. Prior to Pelephone, he served as Head of Marketing at Barak 013, a long distance operator.

Microsoft Veteran Selected for CTO Role at Cincinnati Bell Subsidiary

CyrusOne, a provider of corporate colocation services, announced that it has hired Kevin Timmons as the company's new CTO. Most recently, Timmons served as the GM of Datacenter Services at Microsoft. Before joining Microsoft, he was the VP of Operations at Yahoo! and the Director of Operations at GeoCities.

Dutch Telecom Service Provider Adds to Board

Elephant Talk Communications announced that it has appointed Charles Levine, 57, to the company's Board of Directors. He is currently the Chairman of Openwave Systems and serves on the board of directors at Sierra Wireless, RCN, and Somera Communications. Prior to his focus on board work, Levine served as the President of Sprint PCS. He has also held senior roles at Octel Communications, CadForms Technology, and AT&T.

New Board Member at Broadband Provider


Alaska Communications announced the Brian Ross has joined its Board of Directors. He will also serve on the company’s Audit Committee. Currently, Ross is the President & CEO of KnowledgeWorks, a non-profit organization providing innovative methodologies in the field of education. Prior to joining KnowledgeWorks, he was the COO at Cincinnati Bell. Ross is a member of the boards of Downtown Cincinnati, KnowledgeFunding Ohio, and Ursuline Academy.

Emulex Recruits New VP


Emulex announced it has appointed Adam Winkelmann as the VP of International Operations. In his new position, he will be responsible for all of Emulex's international operations overseas and sales & marketing in the EMEA region. Prior to joining Emulex, Winkelmann served as a Director at CFM Capital. Before that, he was the EVP of Worldwide Sales at MobileAware, a leading provider of Mobile Self-Care and Mobile Cloud-Care solutions. Earlier in his career, he was a Divisional Director at Cap Gemini Sogeti and GM at Glockenspiel.

Dora Vell

Dora Vell is the Managing Partner of Vell Executive Search, a boutique executive search firm in Boston focused on recruiting technology executives and board members. Vell has successfully completed numerous board member and C-level executive searches, including CEOs, COOs, CIOs, and Vice Presidents - at both public and private companies.

Prior to founding the firm in 2005, Vell was a Partner at Heidrick & Struggles' Technology practice for seven years.  Before her career in executive search, she worked at IBM for 11 years, managing software engineering organizations of 100 people and software sales organizations with revenues of $150 million. She has also served as an executive assistant to the CEO of IBM Canada for one year.

Vell holds seven worldwide software patents. She has published several Business of Leadership reports on governance and leadership and has been quoted in numerous articles including The Wall Street Journal, Forbes, Business Week, Fortune, Agenda Week, MSNBC, Mass High Tech, the OPUS for the World Economic Forum, Boston Business Journal, The Globe & Mail, CIO Magazine, and IEEE. She also has been a featured speaker on leadership at numerous conferences and at Columbia University's MBA program.

Vell is a member of the National Association of Corporate Directors (NACD), the Boston CEO Roundtable. She has served on the boards of Framingham State, Entrepreneur's Organization, Goodwill, Mary Centre for developmentally handicapped adults, garage.ca, and RBC Capital Partners.

She has received an MBA from the University of Toronto, a Master in Computer Science from the University of Waterloo, and a Bachelor in Computer Science from Carleton. She has also completed the MIT Entrepreneurial Master’s program.
