Steve Mollenkopf, 41, has been promoted to President & COO of the company. He will continue to serve in his current role as President of Qualcomm CDMA Technologies (QCT). In the past, Mollenkopf was EVP and Group President of the company. He also served as EVP of QCT Product Management, SVP of Engineering & Product Management, and VP of Engineering. Currently, Mollenkopf sits on the Board of Atheros Communications.
Rafael Steinhauser has been selected as the new SVP and President of Qualcomm Latin America. Steinhauser has held a variety of executive positions at Qualcomm, including Director of Qualcomm South America and VP of Qualcomm Brazil. Before joining Qualcomm, he was President of Latin America operations at Acision and NextWave and President of Brazil operations at Cisco and Nortel.
Derek Aberle, 40, has been promoted to the role of EVP & Group President. In addition to continuing to serve as President of the Qualcomm Technology Licensing (QTL) division, Aberle will oversee Qualcomm's core services businesses. In the past, he has held various roles at QTL, including President, EVP, SVP, VP, Legal Counsel, and GM.
New CTO at Nokia
Henry Tirri has been named as Nokia’s new CTO. Prior to this appointment, he served as the SVP & Head of Nokia Research Center. In addition to these positions, Tirri has been an Adjunct Professor at the University of Helsinki for over a decade. In the past, he has served on the Advisory Board at Nexit Ventures, a mobile venture capital company, and as a director of Ekahau, a leader in Wi-Fi based tracking solutions.
Harris Appoints CEO
Harris Corporation announced that its Board of Directors has appointed William Brown, 48, as President and CEO. He will also likely join the Board of Directors at the company’s December Board meeting. Brown succeeds Howard Lance, 55, who will continue to serve as Non-Executive Chairman of the Board until the end of the calendar year. Brown joins Harris from United Technologies, where he most recently was SVP of Corporate Strategy and Development. Prior to that role he served as President of UTC's Fire & Security division. Before joining UTC, Brown held senior roles at Carrier Corporation, a UTC subsidiary specializing in heating, ventilating, and air conditioning systems.
Wireless Telecom Equipment Manufacturer Hires Director
Comtech Telecom announced that it appointed Edwin Kantor, 78, as Lead Independent Director of the company. Kantor has been on the Comtech Board as a director since 2001. Currently, he is an Investment Banker with Cantor Fitzgerald & Co. Prior to Cantor Fitzgerald, he served as Co-CEO of TPB Financial Services and HCFP/Brenner Securities. Before joining HCFP/Brenner Securities, Kantor was the Vice Chairman of Barington Capital Group. Earlier in his career, Kantor spent 37 years in the securities industry with Drexel Burnham Lambert and its predecessor firms.
