Two Regional Presidents Retire from Verizon

Verizon announced that William Roberts has retired after nearly 30 years with the company. Most recently, Roberts served as the Regional President for Maryland and Washington D.C. Prior to joining Verizon, he held management positions at C&P Telephone Company. Currently, Roberts is a board member of the Federal City Council, Greater Washington Board of Trade, Greater Baltimore Committee, Kennedy-Krieger Institute, and National Aquarium.

The company also announced that Verizon Pennsylvania President Gale Given is retiring. Prior to her role as Pennsylvania President, Given served as President of Verizon’s Great Lake region and as President of Verizon West Virginia. Before joining Verizon, she held a variety of roles at Bell Communications Research and C&P Telephone Company.

Former SGI & Adobe CFO Joins Wireless Network Operator

nTelos Holdings announced that Harold Covert, 64, has been appointed as EVP & CFO for Lumos Networks, a new spin off of nTelos which will provide broadband services. Prior to joining Lumos Networks, Covert was the CFO of Silicon Image, a developer of semiconductors and intellectual property solutions. Before that he was the CFO of Openwave Systems, a provider of software solutions for the communications and media industries. Earlier in his career, Covert served as CFO for Fortinet, Extreme Networks, Silicon Graphics, and Adobe Systems.

New VP at Cincinnati Bell’s Subsidiary

CyrusOne, a provider of corporate colocation services, has hired John Hatem as the new VP of Data Center Design and Construction. Hatem comes to CyrusOne from Concept Construction Services where he was the Director of Design and Construction. Prior to Concept Construction, he served as a VP at JPMorgan Chase, Managing Director at Bear Sterns, and Network Implementation Engineer at Deutsche Bank.


Data Storage Company Recruits General Counsel

Silicon Graphics (SGI) announced that Jennifer Pileggi, 46, has joined the company as SVP, General Counsel, and Corporate Secretary. Prior to joining SGI, Pileggi was EVP, General Counsel, and Corporate Secretary of Con-way, a $5 billion freight transportation and logistics services company. She has also served as VP and Corporate Counsel for Menlo WW, Con-way's $1.5 billion supply chain management business segment.

Dora Vell

Dora Vell is the Managing Partner of Vell Executive Search, a boutique executive search firm in Boston focused on recruiting technology executives and board members. Vell has successfully completed numerous board member and C-level executive searches, including CEOs, COOs, CIOs, and Vice Presidents - at both public and private companies.

Prior to founding the firm in 2005, Vell was a Partner at Heidrick & Struggles' Technology practice for seven years.  Before her career in executive search, she worked at IBM for 11 years, managing software engineering organizations of 100 people and software sales organizations with revenues of $150 million. She has also served as an executive assistant to the CEO of IBM Canada for one year.

Vell holds seven worldwide software patents. She has published several Business of Leadership reports on governance and leadership and has been quoted in numerous articles including The Wall Street Journal, Forbes, Business Week, Fortune, Agenda Week, MSNBC, Mass High Tech, the OPUS for the World Economic Forum, Boston Business Journal, The Globe & Mail, CIO Magazine, and IEEE. She also has been a featured speaker on leadership at numerous conferences and at Columbia University's MBA program.

Vell is a member of the National Association of Corporate Directors (NACD), the Boston CEO Roundtable. She has served on the boards of Framingham State, Entrepreneur's Organization, Goodwill, Mary Centre for developmentally handicapped adults,, and RBC Capital Partners.

She has received an MBA from the University of Toronto, a Master in Computer Science from the University of Waterloo, and a Bachelor in Computer Science from Carleton. She has also completed the MIT Entrepreneurial Master’s program.
