Telecom Services CEO Lands on Board of Financial Holdings Company

Umpqua Holdings announced that it has appointed Dudley Slater to its Board of Directors. Slater most recently served as the CEO of Integra Telecom, a company he co-founded in 1996. Prior to Integra, he served as Principal of Rural Link Communications, an investment firm that provided funding and management services to telecommunications companies. Slater was awarded the 2011 Entrepreneur of the Year Award for the Northwest Region by E&Y.

Power Equipment Company Recruits a Former IBM Exec and a Venture Capitalist to its Board

Global Power Equipment Group has appointed John Cronin to its Board. Cronin is the MD and Chairman of ipCapital Group, an intellectual property strategy firm. Prior to founding ipCapital in 1998, Cronin was an inventor at IBM for 17 years. While at IBM, he patented over 100 inventions, published over 150 technical papers, and received IBM's "Most Distinguished Inventor Award." Cronin also serves on the boards of the Vermont Electric Power Company, Armor Designs, and Primal.

Steven Ledger, 51, has also joined the company’s Board. Ledger is the founder of Tamalpais Partners, an investment and advisory group. He was also the founder and Managing Partner of eCompanies Venture Group, a strategic venture capital fund. Prior to founding eCompanies Venture Group, Ledger served as Managing Partner and Portfolio Manager at San Francisco Investment Group and Kayne Anderson Investment Management. He began his career at Fidelity Management and Research as an Equity Research Analyst and Portfolio Manager. Ledger also serves on the boards of Acorn Energy, Broadcast International, and Crossroads Systems.

Google MD Joins Retail Board


The Finish Line announced that Torrence Boone, 42, has been selected to be a Director on its Board. Boone is Google’s current MD of Agency Business Development for North America. Prior to Google, Boone served as CEO of Enfatico and as a senior executive at Digitas. Before Digitas, he was VP & GM of Avenue A, a digital marketing agency. Boone has also served as a Senior Manager at Bain & Company, where he advised a broad range of clients on business strategy, M&A, new product development, and interactive strategy.

Communications Testing Equipment Company Hires Former Nortel President


EXFO announced the appointment of Darryl Edwards to its Board of Directors. Most recently, Edwards was CEO of AIRCOM, a provider of software solutions and services to global mobile network operators. Prior to AIRCOM, he served as the President of Global Sales for Nortel Networks. During his time at Nortel, he also worked as EMEA President and held a number of other senior sales leadership positions in the EMEA region. Edwards began his career with GEC Telecommunications, where he held a number of management positions in engineering, quality assurance, and international sales. In the past, he has served as a member of the Advisory Counsel to the Turkish government and on the UK government’s Broadband Stakeholders Group.

Accenture Veteran Joins Interactive Media Company


Next 1 Interactive announced that Don Monaco has joined the company’s Board of Directors. In the past, Monaco spent over 25 years as an international IT and business management consultant for Accenture. He is a principal owner of Monaco Air Duluth, an aviation services business at Duluth International Airport. Currently, Monaco serves as a commissioner on the Metropolitan Airports Commission, as a commissioner and VP of the Duluth Economic Development Authority, as a President of the Monaco Air Foundation, and as a member of Lake Superior College's Center for Advance Aviation Steering Committee.

Dora Vell

Dora Vell is the Managing Partner of Vell Executive Search, a boutique executive search firm in Boston focused on recruiting technology executives and board members. Vell has successfully completed numerous board member and C-level executive searches, including CEOs, COOs, CIOs, and Vice Presidents - at both public and private companies.

Prior to founding the firm in 2005, Vell was a Partner at Heidrick & Struggles' Technology practice for seven years.  Before her career in executive search, she worked at IBM for 11 years, managing software engineering organizations of 100 people and software sales organizations with revenues of $150 million. She has also served as an executive assistant to the CEO of IBM Canada for one year.

Vell holds seven worldwide software patents. Vell is a member of the National Association of Corporate Directors (NACD), the Boston CEO Roundtable. She has served on the boards of Framingham State, Entrepreneur's Organization, Goodwill, Mary Centre for developmentally handicapped adults, garage.ca, and RBC Capital Partners.

She has received an MBA from the University of Toronto, a Master in Computer Science from the University of Waterloo, and a Bachelor in Computer Science from Carleton. She has also completed the MIT Entrepreneurial Master’s program.
