Cisco Promotes Longtime Employee to Regional GM

Cisco Systems announced that Christian Martin has been appointed as the GM of Switzerland. Martin has been with Cisco since 1998 and has served the company in a variety of roles, including Manager of the Datacenter Virtualization team and Regional Sales Manager for the Enterprise Business in Switzerland. He replaces Eric Waltert, who is now the EMEA Leader of Collaboration for the Cisco Enterprise Business Group.

NetGear Selects Plantronics CFO for Board

NetGear, a networking equipment manufacturer, announced the appointment of Barbara Scherer, 55, to the company’s Board of Directors and Audit Committee. Currently, Scherer is the CFO and SVP of Finance & Administration of Plantronics, a mobile headsets manufacturer. Prior to joining Plantronics in 1997, she was an Associate at The Boston Consulting Group, a member of the corporate finance team at ARCO, and a Director of Keithley Instruments

Skype CFO on F5 Networks Board

F5 Networks, a leader in application delivery networking, announced the appointment of Jonathan Chadwick, the CFO & SVP of Skype, to its Board of Directors. Prior to Skype, he was the EVP and CFO at McAfee. Chadwick joined McAfee from Cisco Systems, where he served as CFO & SVP of Global Customer Markets. He is also on Rocketship Education’s Board of Directors.

WAN Optimization Solutions Provider Hires New CEO

Blue Coat Systems announced that Gregory Clark, 46, has been appointed as the company’s new President, CEO, & board member. Prior to joining Blue Coat, he served as CEO of Mincom, a leading global provider of software and services to asset intensive industries.  Before Mincom, Clark was the VP of IBM Tivoli, a division which develops Integrated Service Management software. Earlier in his career, he held senior roles with AT&T’s UNIX System Laboratories and Stallion Technologies.

Communication & Utility Software Company Recruits New Board Member

Smith Micro Software announced the reappointment of Gregory Szabo to its Board of Directors. He currently serves as President and CEO of Ertek and sits on the Board of Advisors at Across Techs. Prior to Ertek, Szabo was the SVP of Engineering & Operations for Vodafone AirTouch.

Ambient Promotes Former BCG Exec to CFO Role

Ambient, a communications equipment and technologies company, announced that VP & Principal Financial Officer Mark Fidler, 40, has been promoted to CFO. Prior to joining Ambient, Fidler spent ten years at Evergreen Solar, most recently as VP of Finance & Treasurer. Prior to his tenure at Evergreen Solar, he held various senior financial roles at The Boston Consulting Group and Hampshire Chemical, a division of Dow Chemical.

Dora Vell

Dora Vell is the Managing Partner of Vell Executive Search, a boutique executive search firm in Boston focused on recruiting technology executives and board members. Vell has successfully completed numerous board member and C-level executive searches, including CEOs, COOs, CIOs, and Vice Presidents - at both public and private companies.

Prior to founding the firm in 2005, Vell was a Partner at Heidrick & Struggles' Technology practice for seven years.  Before her career in executive search, she worked at IBM for 11 years, managing software engineering organizations of 100 people and software sales organizations with revenues of $150 million. She has also served as an executive assistant to the CEO of IBM Canada for one year.

Vell holds seven worldwide software patents. She has published several Business of Leadership reports on governance and leadership and has been quoted in numerous articles including The Wall Street Journal, Forbes, Business Week, Fortune, Agenda Week, MSNBC, Mass High Tech, the OPUS for the World Economic Forum, Boston Business Journal, The Globe & Mail, CIO Magazine, and IEEE. She also has been a featured speaker on leadership at numerous conferences and at Columbia University's MBA program.

Vell is a member of the National Association of Corporate Directors (NACD), the Boston CEO Roundtable. She has served on the boards of Framingham State, Entrepreneur's Organization, Goodwill, Mary Centre for developmentally handicapped adults,, and RBC Capital Partners.

She has received an MBA from the University of Toronto, a Master in Computer Science from the University of Waterloo, and a Bachelor in Computer Science from Carleton. She has also completed the MIT Entrepreneurial Master’s program.
