COO Promoted to CEO at Verizon

COO Lowell McAdam, 57, has been promoted to the role of CEO. He has replaced longtime CEO Ivan Seidenberg, 64, who will continue to serve as Chairman of the Board. Before his stint as COO, McAdam held the titles of EVP, COO, & CEO of Verizon Wireless. Prior to joining Verizon, he was the CEO of Primeco, a wireless joint venture between AirTouch and Bell Atlantic.

Citrix Hires Division VPs from Symantec, Cisco, & HP

Citrix Systems, an enterprise software company, announced that Erin Hintz has joined as VP of Global Marketing and Ecommerce. Most recently, she led the worldwide marketing organization of Symantec's Norton consumer business. Hintz joined Symantec after it acquired Delrina, a software company where she served as a PR executive.

Shankar Iyer has been appointed as VP of Product Management. Iyer comes to Citrix from Cisco, where he led the formation of a Cloud Applications business unit focused on next-generation SaaS and cloud applications. Prior to Cisco, Iyer was VP of Products at WebEx, an online conference provider which was acquired by Cisco. In the past, he has also served as EVP of Products and Marketing for GemStone Systems and as VP of Products and Strategy at TIBCO Software.

Bob Schultz has been named Group VP and GM of the Enterprise Desktops and Applications division. Schultz comes to Citrix from HP, where he served as VP of Operations, Planning, and Strategy for the Enterprise Services business. Prior to HP, Schultz served as COO at computer hardware developer Adaptec.

Another Microsoft Exec Joins Juniper

Bob Muglia, 51, the former SVP of the Enterprise Storage Division at Microsoft, has joined Juniper Networks as EVP of Software. Before his tenure as SVP of the Enterprise Storage Division, Muglia served as President of Microsoft's Server & Tools business and as a Development Manager at ROLM, a former telecom company located in Silicon Valley. Muglia joins two former Microsoft execs who have previously transitioned to Juniper. Kevin Johnson, the former Windows and Online leader, left to take Juniper's CEO position in 2008 and Brad Brooks, the former Marketing Chief, made the switch earlier this year.


Executive Chairman at Emulex Transitions to the Role of Chairman

Emulex, a leader in storage networking infrastructure solutions, announced that Paul Folino, 65, will step down as Executive Chairman in November. Folino plans to serve as Chairman of the Emulex Board when he finishes his duties as Executive Chairman. He joined Emulex in 1993 as President, CEO, and a Director on the Board. Folino also serves as a board member of Microsemi and CoreLogic.

Dot Hill Systems Selects New VPs

Dot Hill Systems, a data storage solutions provider, announced that Brad Painter has been named VP of Worldwide Channel Sales. Painter joins Dot Hill after a stint as VP of Worldwide Channel Sales at Pillar Data Systems, a data storage firm recently acquired by Oracle. Before Pillar Data, he was VP of Worldwide Sales at Lantronix, a market leader in wired and wireless device networking. Earlier in his career, Painter held various senior sales management positions at Applied Micro Circuits, Crossroads Systems, Pinacor, Exabyte, and HP.

The company also announced that Scott Brooks has been appointed VP of Customer Services and Sales. Prior to this appointment, Brooks served as Midwest Regional Sales Director for Diebold, a security services firm. Before Diebold, he was the Regional Services Director for QMS Global, an expert in management system assessment and registration. In the past, Brooks has held customer service positions at LSI’s Engenio Storage Group, a division which was recently acquired by NetApp.

Dora Vell

Dora Vell is the Managing Partner of Vell Executive Search, a boutique executive search firm in Boston focused on recruiting technology executives and board members. Vell has successfully completed numerous board member and C-level executive searches, including CEOs, COOs, CIOs, and Vice Presidents - at both public and private companies.

Prior to founding the firm in 2005, Vell was a Partner at Heidrick & Struggles' Technology practice for seven years.  Before her career in executive search, she worked at IBM for 11 years, managing software engineering organizations of 100 people and software sales organizations with revenues of $150 million. She has also served as an executive assistant to the CEO of IBM Canada for one year.

Vell holds seven worldwide software patents. She has published several Business of Leadership reports on governance and leadership and has been quoted in numerous articles including The Wall Street Journal, Forbes, Business Week, Fortune, Agenda Week, MSNBC, Mass High Tech, the OPUS for the World Economic Forum, Boston Business Journal, The Globe & Mail, CIO Magazine, and IEEE. She also has been a featured speaker on leadership at numerous conferences and at Columbia University's MBA program.

Vell is a member of the National Association of Corporate Directors (NACD), the Boston CEO Roundtable. She has served on the boards of Framingham State, Entrepreneur's Organization, Goodwill, Mary Centre for developmentally handicapped adults,, and RBC Capital Partners.

She has received an MBA from the University of Toronto, a Master in Computer Science from the University of Waterloo, and a Bachelor in Computer Science from Carleton. She has also completed the MIT Entrepreneurial Master’s program.
