Chief Architect Selected at Subsidiary

Heroku, a cloud PaaS provider, has announced that Yukihiro Matsumoto, 46, will join the company as Chief Architect of Ruby, an open source programming language which Matsumoto created. He will also continue to work as a research fellow at the Network Applied Communication Laboratory and the Rakuten Institute of Technology.

Rackspace Adds Sabre CEO and One Insider to Board

Rackspace Hosting, a leading web hosting and cloud computing company, announced that Sam Gilliland, 48, has joined as a Director on its Board. Currently, Gilliland is Chairman and CEO of Sabre Holdings, a global technology company serving the travel and tourism industries. During his time at Sabre, he has held titles such as President and CEO of Travelocity, EVP & CMO of Sabre Holdings, Group President of the company's Airline Solutions business, and SVP & GM of Sabre Business Travel Solutions. Before joining Sabre in 1988, Gilliland worked as an electrical engineer at the Lockheed Missiles and Space Company. In 2011, Gilliland was appointed to the President's Management Advisory Board by Barack Obama. He also serves on the U.S. Travel and Tourism Advisory Committee.

The company has also approved the selection of Lew Moorman, 40, to its Board. Moorman is the company’s Chief Strategy Officer and President of the Cloud business. Before joining Rackspace, Moorman worked for McKinsey & Company, a management consulting firm which advises high technology clients on critical strategic issues. Currently, he serves as a commissioner on Tech America's Cloud2 Commission, an organization which promotes the federal government's exploration and adoption of cloud services. Additionally, Moorman is a board member for Kinetic Kids and the Texas Biomedical Research Institute.

Symantec CTO Joins Neustar

Neustar, a clearinghouse and directory services provider, announced that Mark Bregman, 53, is joining the company as the new CTO. Dr. Bregman comes to Neustar from Symantec, where he most recently served as EVP & CTO. Prior to Symantec, he served as EVP of Product Operations at Veritas, a software company that merged with Symantec in 2005. Before joining Veritas, he was CEO of AirMedia, China’s largest digital media network. He has also served in various senior management roles at IBM.

E-commerce Company Hires Lawson Software CFO

Digital River announced that Stefan Schulz, 44, has accepted an offer to serve as the company's CFO. Before joining Digital River, Schulz served as CFO and Principal Financial Officer of Lawson Software. He also held other senior positions at Lawson, including SVP of Finance and Global Controller. Prior to Lawson, Schulz worked for BMC Software as VP of Global Revenue Operations and Corporate Controller.

Cryptography Expert Joins Zix Board; Controller Promoted to CFO

Zix, an email encryption provider, announced the election of Dr. Taher Elgamal, 55, to the company's Board of Directors. Currently, he serves as CEO of IdentityMind and as Chief Security Officer for Axway. In the past, Elgamal has held various senior management roles such as CTO of Tumbleweed Communications, CEO and President of Securify, and Chief Scientist of Netscape Communications.

The Board of Directors also selected Michael English, 55, to be the new VP, CFO, & Treasurer. English has previously served as the company's Controller and Principal Accounting Officer. Before joining Zix, he held several finance and accounting related positions, including VP of Finance at Advance Fibre Communications and VP of Finance at Marconi. Additionally, English has served as Division Controller at RELTEC, Rockwell Automation, and Reliance Electric Company.

Technology Professor Joins Computer Services Company

ChinaCache International Holdings announced that Dr. Bo Li, a professor in the Department of Computer Science and Engineering at the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology, is joining the company as Chief Technology Consultant. Li has previously worked with the IBM Networking System Division and Microsoft Research Asia.

Dora Vell

Dora Vell is the Managing Partner of Vell Executive Search, a boutique executive search firm in Boston focused on recruiting technology executives and board members. Vell has successfully completed numerous board member and C-level executive searches, including CEOs, COOs, CIOs, and Vice Presidents - at both public and private companies.

Prior to founding the firm in 2005, Vell was a Partner at Heidrick & Struggles' Technology practice for seven years.  Before her career in executive search, she worked at IBM for 11 years, managing software engineering organizations of 100 people and software sales organizations with revenues of $150 million. She has also served as an executive assistant to the CEO of IBM Canada for one year.

Vell holds seven worldwide software patents. She has published several Business of Leadership reports on governance and leadership and has been quoted in numerous articles including The Wall Street Journal, Forbes, Business Week, Fortune, Agenda Week, MSNBC, Mass High Tech, the OPUS for the World Economic Forum, Boston Business Journal, The Globe & Mail, CIO Magazine, and IEEE. Vell is a member of the National Association of Corporate Directors (NACD), the Boston CEO Roundtable. She has served on the boards of Framingham State, Entrepreneur's Organization, Goodwill, Mary Centre for developmentally handicapped adults,, and RBC Capital Partners.

She has received an MBA from the University of Toronto, a Master in Computer Science from the University of Waterloo, and a Bachelor in Computer Science from Carleton. She has also completed the MIT Entrepreneurial Master’s program.
