Public Utility Company Appoints CEO of Avid Technology as Director

Electricity supplier Edison International and Southern California Edison announced that Louis Hernandez, Jr. has been elected to the board of directors of each company. Hernandez, is chairman, president and CEO of Avid Technology, a provider of solutions used by media organizations and creative professionals. Prior to joining Avid in 2013, Hernandez was the chairman and CEO of Open Solutions, a technology provider to financial institutions worldwide. He is a proven growth-oriented executive who has founded, operated or invested in technology companies focused on Sports and Media, e-Commerce and Financial Services.

Payments Technology Executive Joins Molson Coors Brewing Company's Board

Molson Coors Brewing Company announced that payments technology executive Betty DeVita has joined its board of directors. DeVita is the chief commercial officer, Commerce Platform, at Mastercard, focused on expanding adoption of the company's digital solutions. Prior to her current role, DeVita served as president of Mastercard Canada.

QBE Insurance Appoints Non-Executive Director with FinTech Experience

QBE Insurance Group Limited appointed Kathryn (Kathy) Lisson as a Non-Executive Director. Lisson recently retired as a partner of Ernst & Young. In this role, Lisson was responsible for EY's FinTech implementation in the insurance sector in Canada, combining new customer analytic insight analytics, contactless payments, monitoring technology and fraud detection with policy, claims and underwriting systems offered as cloud or SAAS solutions. Until 2011, Lisson was Chief Operating Officer for QBE European Operations in London with responsibility for claims, technology and operation support functions.

Frito-Lay CIO Joins Board of Sprouts Farmers Market

Sprouts Farmers Market elected Kristen Blum, 50, as director. Blum currently serves as SVP and CIO of Frito-Lay, a division of PepsiCo. She served as the CTO and EVP of J. C. Penney Company, since January 2012. She served as the CIO and SVP of Enterprise Transformation programs for North America at PepsiCo. She joined PepsiCo in 2010. She served as the CIO and SVP at Abercrombie & Fitch from 2006 to 2010.

First Midwest Bancorp Names Former Accenture CIO to Board 

First Midwest Bancorp, the parent company of First Midwest Bank, appointed Frank B. Modruson to its board of directors. Modruson is president of Modruson & Associates. Modruson spent the majority of his career at Accenture, where he served as a client partner and as CIO. He currently serves on the boards of directors of Zebra Technologies Corporation and Forsythe Technology, as well as on the boards of the Lyric Opera of Chicago and the Glen Ellyn Volunteer Fire Company.

Bank of Cyprus Public Company Appoints Hyperion CIO as Director 

The Board of Directors of Bank of Cyprus Public Company appointed Lyn Grobler as a Non-Executive member of the Board of Directors. Grobler was appointed Group CIO of Hyperion Insurance Group in 2016 and she is currently a member of Hyperion's Group Executive Committee. Prior to this Grobler was at BP for 16 years, holding a variety of different roles across IT and global trading, exiting as VP & CIO, Corporate Functions.

Dora Vell

Dora Vell is the Managing Partner of Vell Executive Search, a boutique executive search firm in Boston focused on recruiting technology executives and board members. Vell has successfully completed numerous board member and C-level executive searches, including CEOs, COOs, CIOs, and Vice Presidents - at both public and private companies.

Prior to founding the firm in 2005, Vell was a Partner at Heidrick & Struggles' Technology practice for seven years.  Before her career in executive search, she worked at IBM for 11 years, managing software engineering organizations of 100 people and software sales organizations with revenues of $150 million. She has also served as an executive assistant to the CEO of IBM Canada for one year.

Vell holds seven worldwide software patents. She has published several Business of Leadership reports on governance and leadership and has been quoted in numerous articles including The Wall Street Journal, Forbes, Business Week, Fortune, Agenda Week, MSNBC, Mass High Tech, the OPUS for the World Economic Forum, Boston Business Journal, The Globe & Mail, CIO Magazine, and IEEE. She also has been a featured speaker on leadership at numerous conferences and at Columbia University's MBA program.

Vell is a member of the National Association of Corporate Directors (NACD), the Boston CEO Roundtable. She has served on the boards of Framingham State, Entrepreneur's Organization, Goodwill, Mary Centre for developmentally handicapped adults,, and RBC Capital Partners.

She has received an MBA from the University of Toronto, a Master in Computer Science from the University of Waterloo, and a Bachelor in Computer Science from Carleton. She has also completed the MIT Entrepreneurial Master’s program.
