Welcome to our Software CFO newsletter. We considered software companies in the United States and Canada that are of some size: revenues of $40m or more, 200+ employees, or $50m or more raised. All numbers were based on CapIQ’s estimates. We looked at the period from November 22nd, 2023, to March 1st, 2024.

  •  Booking Holdings – Ewout Steenbergen is the new CFO at Booking Holdings, replacing the retiring David Goulden. Previously the EVP and CFO at S&P Global, Steenbergen has held significant roles at Voya Financial and ING Group. Booking Holdings provides travel and restaurant online reservation and related services. (CT)
  • Analog Devices (NasdaqGS: ADI) – Analog Devices announced Richard C. Puccio, Jr. as the new EVP and CFO. Puccio comes from Amazon Web Services (AWS) where he was CFO. Before AWS, he spent nearly 29 years at PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC). Analog Devices designs, manufactures, tests, and markets integrated circuits (ICs), software, and subsystems products. (MA)
  • ANSYS (NasdaqGS: ANSS) – Ansys (NASDAQ: ANSS) announced today that finance veteran Rachel Pyles will become the company’s new CFO, effective February 22, 2024. Pyles replaces Nicole Anasenes, who previously announced her planned departure from Ansys to focus on advisory and board work. Anasenes will remain with the company as a strategic adviser until June 2024 to ensure a smooth transition. Pyles joined Ansys in early 2023 as the vice president of strategic finance, running financial planning and analysis (FP&A) for the company. Prior to Ansys, she served in a few finance, transformation, and leadership roles at FIS, Worldpay, and Vantiv. Ansys is an engineering software company. (PA)
  • Flywire Corporation (NasdaqGS: FLYW) – Cosmin Pitigoi will join Flywire as CFO, bringing extensive finance experience from leadership roles at PayPal and eBay. He has previously held positions in investor relations, treasury, and FP&A, and served on the board of directors at Paidy. Outgoing CFO Mike Ellis will assist as a senior advisor to facilitate a smooth transition. Flywire Corporation operates as a payment enablement and software company. (MA)
  • FARO Technologies (NasdaqGS: FARO) – Matthew Horwath has been promoted to CFO of FARO, succeeding Allen Muhich, who will assist with the transition. Horwath, with FARO since 2017, has served as VP of Finance, Director of Finance & Accounting, and Senior Manager of Technical Accounting & SEC reporting. Prior to FARO, he worked in public accounting at Ernst & Young, and held corporate accounting roles at Winn-Dixie Stores.   • Harte Hanks (NasdaqGM: HHS) – David Garrison, with over 20 years of CFO experience and an interim role since October 2023, has been named the permanent CFO of Harte Hanks. He has a strong background in cost management and operations improvement, previously serving as CFO for Digital Lumens and Sensera, and supporting Tecogen’s growth.   • Kaltura (NasdaqGS: KLTR) – John Doherty has been appointed as CFO of Kaltura, succeeding Yaron Garmazi. With over three decades of experience, Doherty previously served as CFO and COO at Magic Leap, Inc. and as CFO at InterXion Holding N.V.   • BM Technologies (NYSEAM: BMTX) – BM Technologies has appointed Ajay Asija as CFO, taking over from James Dullinger. With over 25 years in finance, mainly in FinTech, Asija has extensive experience in strategic advisory roles, including at B. Riley Securities.   • Hut 8 (NasdaqGS: HUT) – In the wake of its merger, Hut 8 has appointed Shenif Visram as its CFO. Visram, who previously served as CFO of Hut 8, has extensive experience in finance, including roles at IBM Canada and as VP of Finance at Cogeco Peer 1, leading to its sale and rebranding to Aptum Technologies.   • NYMBUS – NYMBUS has appointed Jeff Fonda as its new CFO. Fonda brings a wealth of experience in financial leadership, particularly in fintech and SaaS, gained from his time at Mortgage Cadence, an Accenture company, and other roles.   • Forter – Forter has appointed Anthony Barsoom as its new CFO. Barsoom brings extensive experience in finance and strategy from leading digital businesses. He recently led Zoom's finance and post-pandemic profitability initiatives.   • Radiance Technologies – Mardina Wammack has been promoted to EVP and CFO at Radiance Technologies, tasked with overseeing financial operations and the ESOP. Bringing 30 years of experience in finance and accounting, she has risen through the ranks at Radiance from Director of Accounting.   • Syska Hennessy Group – Darren Alfano has been named CFO of Syska Hennessy Group, bringing over 25 years of experience in financial management. Previously CFO at Eastern Communications Ltd. and TEC Building Systems, Alfano also held positions at Echo Financial Business Consulting and IPC Systems.   • Paytronix Systems – Eric Steele has been appointed as the new CFO of Paytronix, succeeding acting CFO Lee Barnes, who remains Chief Data Officer and becomes Chief of Staff. Steele previously contributed to Snap One's growth to over $1 billion in revenue and held a senior finance role there. He has a background in growth equity investment with Catalyst Investors.   • IntelliShift - Dan Irwin has been named the new CFO of IntelliShift, where he will oversee strategy, financial forecasting, compliance, and legal aspects. His background includes six years as a Principal at LLR Partners, focusing on industrial IoT and contributing to an investment in IntelliShift, and six years at Goldman Sachs in the principal investment area.   • Cedar Cares – Scott Stockberger is the new CFO at Cedar, bringing nearly 15 years of experience in finance and corporate development. Previously, he was CFO at Bolt, an eCommerce platform, and held leadership roles at Yapstone, a payments platform. Earlier, he worked in investment banking and at Express Scripts.   •  S&P Global (NYSE: SPGI) – S&P Global has appointed Christopher Craig as Interim CFO, following Ewout Steenbergen's departure to pursue a new opportunity. Craig, with over thirteen years at S&P Global, has played a key role in earnings refinement, acquisitions, divestitures, joint ventures, and real estate strategy. This interim appointment is part of the company's ongoing search for a permanent CFO. S&P Global provides credit ratings, benchmarks, analytics, and workflow solutions in the global capital, commodity, and automotive markets. (NY)
  • Inspired Entertainment (NasdaqCM: INSE) – Marilyn Jentzen has been appointed as the Interim CFO of Inspired Entertainment, Inc. following Stewart F.B. Baker's resignation. Chegg operates a direct-to-student learning platform that supports students starting with their academic journey and extending into their careers with products and services to support learners with their academic course materials.   • JFrog (NasdaqGS: FROG) – Jacob Shulman has resigned as CFO of JFrog, effective at the end of the year. Following his departure, he will enter into a Consulting Services Agreement with JFrog, providing strategic advisory and consulting services as an independent contractor for the next year. Guha previously served as CFO at Heal, where he played a key role in transitioning the company to a value-based primary care model, a process that concluded with its acquisition by Humana/Centerwell. Before joining Heal, Guha spent 17 years at Canyon Capital Advisors, focusing on healthcare investments. Dora Vell

Dora Vell is the CEO of Vell Executive Search, a boutique executive search firm in Boston that recruits technology executives and board members for companies ranging from promising tech startups to Fortune 100 companies. Throughout her 22-year career in executive search, she has successfully completed hundreds of assignments, placing board members, CEOs, COOs, CIOs, technology officers, vice presidents and many other C-level executives. Vell’s clients span both private and public companies and her work has included searches in markets large and small across the U.S. and Canada.

Prior to founding Vell Executive Search in 2005, she was a partner at the executive search consulting firm Heidrick & Struggles for seven years. She started in the Technology Practice in the Toronto office, became the firm’s Technology Practice leader for Canada, and then joined the firm’s Boston office.

Before her career in executive search, Vell worked for 11 years at IBM Canada in software-related roles of increasing responsibility. She started as a software engineer, managed a software engineering team of 100, and then led software sales for IBM Canada. She holds seven worldwide software patents. This deep industry understanding has helped Vell Executive Search become a recognized leader in finding senior executive and board talent for software and SaaS companies.

Vell is a recognized industry thought leader who has published several reports on governance and leadership topics. Vell received an MBA from the University of Toronto, a master’s in Computer Science from the University of Waterloo, and a bachelor’s in Computer Science from Carleton University.  She has also completed the MIT Entrepreneurial Master’s program.
