Google Appoints Board Member and CEO of New Acquisition bebop as SVP; Makes Multiple Promotions
Google will acquire bebop Technologies and appoints the CEO, board member, and a stockholder of bebop, Diane B. Greene, 59, as SVP of Google. Greene has been Google’s non-independent director and will continue to serve on the Google board. Greene had been one of the founders of VMware, the company that more or less introduced the world to the concept of virtualization. She started the company with her husband Mendel Rosenblum and was its CEO for about 10 years, which included about four years after its acquisition by EMC, and saw it through the IPO.
Cisco Appoints CTO for Security Solutions Division from Newly Acquired India-based Company Pawaa Software
Cisco has announced its first acquisition in India by taking over Pawaa Software. Pawaa's founder Prakash Baskaran has been appointed as CTO for Cisco's security solutions division. As CEO of Pawaa, he was solving the most critical challenges of file security with an innovative key management and file container technology. Prior to Pawaa, Prakash was founder of five other startups in the areas of VoIP services, HR/CRM solutions and B2B marketplaces. He has several years of work experience in industry-leading organizations such as AT&T, Lucent and IBM.
Apple Appoints Former Boeing CFO to its Board
Apple appointed James Bell, Boeing's former CFO, to its board. Bell, who was Boeing's CFO from 2003 to 2012, is on the board of several other companies, including JPMorgan Chase and Dow Chemical. He also served as Boeing's interim CEO for several months in 2005 after the aircraft maker fired CEO Harry Stonecipher.
Google Reorganizes under New Holding Company Alphabet; Sundar Pichai to Lead Largest Subsidiary Google as CEO
Google reorganizes itself into a new holding company, Alphabet, whose largest wholly owned subsidiary will be Google. Google Co-Founders Larry Page and Sergey Brin will be Alphabet’s CEO and President, respectively. Eric Schmidt will be the Executive Chairman of Alphabet. SVP of Corporate Development, Chief Legal Officer and Secretary of Google David C. Drummond will be the Chief Legal Officer and Secretary. The company’s Chief Business Officer, Omid Kordistani, will step down and become an adviser to Alphabet and Google.
Former PwC CEO Joins AT&T Board
AT&T appointed Samuel A. Di Piazza, Jr., 64, former Global CEO of PwC, to its Board. Di Piazza began his career with PwC in 1973 and served as Global CEO from 2002 to 2009. In between, he held a variety of regional leadership roles and served as chairman and senior partner of PwC's U.S. operations.
Former HP Cloud Leader Joins Cisco CTO Role
Cisco named Zorawar Biri Singh as CTO and SVP, Platforms and Solutions. His appointment comes as CTO and Chief Strategy Officer Padmasaree Warrior takes her leave. Singh will be responsible for driving thought leadership around Cisco’s long term technology roadmap, platforms and architectures.
Apple Appoints New Chief Design Officer and Other Design Execs
Jony Ive, long-time SVP of Design at Apple, now has the title of Chief Design Officer at Apple. This will allow Ive to hand off day-to-day managerial duties and focus more on items like the design of Apple's retail stores and also aid in the ongoing construction of Apple's new corporate campus.
