Apple Appoints Former Boeing CFO to its Board

Apple appointed James Bell, Boeing's former CFO, to its board. Bell, who was Boeing's CFO from 2003 to 2012, is on the board of several other companies, including JPMorgan Chase and Dow Chemical. He also served as Boeing's interim CEO for several months in 2005 after the aircraft maker fired CEO Harry Stonecipher.

Microsoft Appoints New Chief Legal Officer and Regional Communications and CSR Leader

Bradford L. Smith, 56, was appointed to the position of President and Chief Legal Officer of Microsoft. Smith previously served as General Counsel & EVP, Legal and Corporate Affairs. He joined Microsoft in 1993, and has served as General Counsel since 2002.

SAP Names New President of Industry Cloud

SAP recently appointed Pat Bakey as President of the Industry Cloud organization. Bakey will be responsible for the industry cloud footprint at SAP, which covers 25 industries globally, the finance and extended supply chain lines of business and the go-to-market execution of SAP Business Suite 4 SAP HANA (SAP S/4HANA). 

Google Reorganizes under New Holding Company Alphabet; Sundar Pichai to Lead Largest Subsidiary Google as CEO

Google reorganizes itself into a new holding company, Alphabet, whose largest wholly owned subsidiary will be Google. Google Co-Founders Larry Page and Sergey Brin will be Alphabet’s CEO and President, respectively. Eric Schmidt will be the Executive Chairman of Alphabet. SVP of Corporate Development, Chief Legal Officer and Secretary of Google David C. Drummond will be the Chief Legal Officer and Secretary. The company’s Chief Business Officer, Omid Kordistani, will step down and become an adviser to Alphabet and Google.

Apple Creates New VP Role for Environment, Policy and Social Initiatives

Apple named Lisa Jackson as its VP of environment, policy and social initiatives. Jackson, who previously served as administrator of the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, joined Apple two years ago to head up its environmental initiatives. That role is now broadened. She will also be in charge of the company's education policy programs, its product accessibility work and government affairs.

SAP Names New President to Head Latin America Organization; Marketing Exec Joins Hortonworks

SAP has appointed Claudio Muruzabal as the new president for SAP Latin America & the Caribbean (LAC). Muruzabal was previously CEO of NEORIS. With more than 25 years in the IT industry, Muruzabal successfully lead the evolution of NEORIS from being the IT branch of CEMEX, to becoming a global fast growth business and IT consulting company. During his 10 year tenure, NEORIS achieved global partner status with SAP. Previously, Muruzabal served as VP of NCR’s Teradata for Latin America and the Caribbean, and also held numerous executive positions throughout his 17 year career at NCR.

Google Taps Morgan Stanley's Ruth Porat as CFO; Changes at Google X and Google+ Units

Google hired Morgan Stanley CFO Ruth Porat, 57, as its own CFO. Porat has helped execute a sweeping cost-cutting strategy across several business lines at Morgan Stanley. She served as the Global Head of the Financial Institutions Group, Vice Chairman of Investment Banking, and Chairman of the Financial Sponsors Group. Porat began her career with Morgan Stanley in 1987 in the Mergers and Acquisition Department.

Microsoft Hires Forrester Analyst as Chief Strategist in Cloud & Enterprise Group

James Staten, a veteran industry analyst who covered the cloud computing market for Forrester Research, is joining Microsoft as chief strategist for its Cloud & Enterprise group, to help in a highly competitive part of the industry. Staten has been with Forrester since 2007 as VP and principal analyst. He started his career as a journalist before becoming an analyst with Gartner in 1996, has worked at tech companies in the past, including Azul Systems and Sun Microsystems, where he was a director of marketing.

Verizon Elects Aetna Chair/CEO to Board

Verizon Communications elected Mark T. Bertolini, 57, chairman and CEO of Aetna, to its Board of Directors. Bertolini joined Aetna in 2003 as head of Aetna's Specialty Products. He served as EVP and head of Aetna's regional businesses prior to being named president. In 2007 he was named president and in that role was responsible for all of Aetna's businesses and operations. Prior to joining Aetna, Bertolini held executive positions at Cigna, NYLCare Health Plans and SelectCare, where he served as president.

GE Names CTO and Research Exec for GE Software

GE appoints Harel Kodesh, 56, as VP, CTO, GE Software. Kodesh joined GE from Nurego, where he served as CEO and founder. He served as an EVP at VMWare and President of Cloud Infrastructure Business and CEO of Digital Echo at EMC. He served as the CEO of Decho, CEO of Mozy, Chief Product Officer of Amdocs, President and CEO of Wingcast Corporation, a joint venture between the Ford Motor Company and Qualcomm, VP of the Productivity Appliance Division and VP of the Information Appliances Division at Microsoft.
