Former Samsung and Nortel Exec Joins Board of Thailand-based Moto Taxi Industry Association
World Moto appointed Julpas "Tom" Kruesopon, to the Company's Board of Directors. He is an advisor to the Prime Minister of Thailand and current president of Panda Securities (US & Asia Pacific). Mr. Kruesopon was formerly Samsung’s Country Manager and Managing Director of Nortel Networks in Thailand and Vietnam where he successfully built up the Nortel brand to both the enterprise and Government sector, including the successful launch of Nortel products such as the Meridian phone system as well as the CDMA cellular network products.
eBay Director Resigns; Joins AOL Board
Dawn G. Lepore, 57, a director of eBay, has resigned from the company’s board. She has been newly elected to AOL’s board. Lepore is CEO at Prosper Marketplace, a peer-to-peer lending marketplace. Formerly, she was CEO and Chairman of drugstore.com, a leading online retailer of health, beauty, and wellness products, until its sale to Walgreens. Prior to that, she held leadership positions at The Charles Schwab Company, like Vice Chairman of technology, operations, administration, strategy and active trader, was CIO, a member of Schwab's executive committee and a trustee of SchwabFunds.
American Express Appoints Former Amazon and Apple Exec for Software Product Management
American Express named Erich Ringewald as VP of Software Product Management for the U.S. Consumer Services business. Most recently, Ringewald served as CTO for Boku, a leading global mobile payments network that enables customers to purchase virtual goods using their mobile phone numbers. Prior to joining Boku, Ringewald was a General Manager and VP of Amazon.com. Earlier in his career, he co-founded Accept.com (acquired by Amazon.com), which pioneered person-to-person payments on the internet. He also co-founded Be, a computer company founded by former Apple Computer executives, and served as the CTO and VP of Engineering. Prior to that, he held various senior engineering management positions at Apple, including managing the Operating System Advanced Technology teams, the Macintosh Operating System team and the European Software Research and Development team.
Co-CEOs Resign at RIM
RIM announced that Mike Lazaridis and Jim Balsillie have resigned as Co-CEOs & Co-Chairmen of the company. Lazaridis will stay on the Board as Vice Chairman and Balsillie will serve as a Director. In response to the resignations, the company has named COO Thorsten Heins as CEO of the company. Prior to joining RIM in 2007, Heins served as the CTO of Siemens' Communications Division. Barbara Stymiest, a Board Member since 2007, has been named as the company’s new Independent Chairman.
Major Executive Shakeup at Qualcomm
Steve Altman, 49, has been appointed as the new Vice Chairman of Qualcomm. Most recently, Altman served as President of the company. Prior to being named President, Altman served as EVP & President of Qualcomm Technology Licensing. He also serves on the Board of Directors at Amylin Pharmaceuticals.
