Google Loses Its Wallet VP; Company Hires Head of Design

Osama Bedier, who joined Google in 2011 and headed the Google Wallet payment business as VP of Wallet & Payments, is leaving the company. Previously, he served as VP, Product Development at PayPal, Director-Technology at DG Systems/Starguide Satellite Systems, Sr. Manager, B2B eCommerce at Gateway, and Web Architect/Manager at AT&T Wireless.

Facebook Names CTO

Facebook named VP of engineering, Mike Schroepfer, 38, as the company’s CTO. The position was previously unoccupied due to the departure of former CTO Bret Taylor last summer. Prior to joining the social network, Schroepfer was the VP of Engineering at Mozilla where he led the global, collaborative, open, and proprietary product development process behind the company’s popular softwares, including the Firefox web browser. He also was a distinguished engineer at Sun Microsystems, specifically leading the data center automation division as its CTO.

Apple Appoints Adobe’s CTO as VP, Tech

Kevin Lynch, 45, Adobe's CTO, has left the company to join Apple as VP of technology. Prior to his role as the CTO, he served as Chief Software Architect, EVP and General Manager of Designer and Developer Business at Adobe Macromedia Software, SVP of Experience, Technology & Organization of Adobe Systems, SVP and Chief Software Architect of Platform BU of Adobe Systems, COO of Syzygy Entertainment, COO of Triple Bay Industries, and General Manager of Web Publishing. He worked for General Magic, where he pioneered a navigational user interface for handheld communicators. He designed the user interface and developed the first Macintosh release of FrameMaker software for Frame Technology.

Berkshire Hathaway Adds Eagle Capital’s General Partner to Board

Berkshire Hathaway named Meryl Witmer, 51, a general partner at Eagle Capital, as Director, as the panel prepares for the eventual departure of Chairman Warren Buffett. From 1989 through the end of 2000, she was one of two General Partners at Buchanan, Parker Asset Management which managed Emerald Partners, an investment partnership.

GE Board Nominates Former SEC Chair to Board

General Electric has nominated Mary Schapiro, 57, former chairman of the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC), as a GE director. Prior to becoming SEC chairman, Schapiro served as CEO of the Financial Industry Regulatory Authority (FINRA), president, vice-chair and chair of the National Association of Securities Dealers (NASD) Regulation. She served as a commissioner of the SEC before that, and left the SEC when appointed chairman of the CFTC.

Facebook Appoints Second Female Board Member

Facebook appointed Susan Desmond-Hellmann, M.D., M.P.H., 51, chancellor of the University of California, San Francisco (UCSF), to the company's board of directors. She previously served as president, product development at the biotechnology pioneer, Genentech. During her 14 years with the company, Desmond-Hellmann brought numerous cutting-edge cancer medicines to market to help people battle the disease. She completed her clinical training at UCSF and is board-certified in internal medicine and medical oncology.  During her training at UCSF, she spent two years as a visiting faculty member at the Uganda Cancer Institute, studying HIV/AIDS and cancer. Desmond-Hellmann is on the board of directors for Procter & Gamble, and she also serves as a trustee for the Howard Hughes Medical Institute, a non-profit medical research organization.

GE Elects Cognizant’s CEO to Board; Names New BD Leader

General Electric Company has elected Francisco "Frank" D'Souza, 43, CEO and director, Cognizant Technology Solutions, as director. In addition to his leadership of Cognizant, D'Souza is a director of the U.S.-India Business Council and a Trustee of Carnegie Mellon University.

Facebook Nabs Brunswick Exec for Top Communications Job

Brunswick Group's US managing partner Michael Buckley is leaving the agency for a top communications role at Facebook. He has been working with Facebook on a range of corporate and other PR issues over the last several years will be joining the social networking giant as VP of business communications. Buckley has been with the global strategy and communications consultancy Brunswick Group, one of Facebook’s outside agencies, where he represented a number of clients. Before Brunswick, he served as senior MD and national director of the litigation group at Hill & Knowlton.

Microsoft’s Lead Independent Director Not to Seek Re-Election to Board

Reed Hastings, 52, who has served as a member of the Microsoft Board for last five years and is current lead independent director, decided not to seek re-election.  Reed Hastings has served as Netflix’s CEO since 1998 and Chairman since inception. He served as CEO of Pure Atria Software, a maker of software development tools, before that, until it was acquired by Rational Software.
