Google China Chief Steps down; Company Names Replacement
Google China Country Manager Dr John Liu will step down after six years in the role. Liu will leave in August having presided over a period of great change for Google in China, which included the Internet giant’s controversial exit from the country in 2010 following allegations that the Chinese government hacked into email accounts belonging to activists.
GE Board Nominates Former SEC Chair to Board
General Electric has nominated Mary Schapiro, 57, former chairman of the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC), as a GE director. Prior to becoming SEC chairman, Schapiro served as CEO of the Financial Industry Regulatory Authority (FINRA), president, vice-chair and chair of the National Association of Securities Dealers (NASD) Regulation. She served as a commissioner of the SEC before that, and left the SEC when appointed chairman of the CFTC.
Facebook Appoints Second Female Board Member
Facebook appointed Susan Desmond-Hellmann, M.D., M.P.H., 51, chancellor of the University of California, San Francisco (UCSF), to the company's board of directors. She previously served as president, product development at the biotechnology pioneer, Genentech. During her 14 years with the company, Desmond-Hellmann brought numerous cutting-edge cancer medicines to market to help people battle the disease. She completed her clinical training at UCSF and is board-certified in internal medicine and medical oncology. During her training at UCSF, she spent two years as a visiting faculty member at the Uganda Cancer Institute, studying HIV/AIDS and cancer. Desmond-Hellmann is on the board of directors for Procter & Gamble, and she also serves as a trustee for the Howard Hughes Medical Institute, a non-profit medical research organization.
GE Elects Cognizant’s CEO to Board
General Electric Company has elected Francisco "Frank" D'Souza, 43, CEO and director, Cognizant Technology Solutions, as director. In addition to his leadership of Cognizant, D'Souza is a director of the U.S.-India Business Council and a Trustee of Carnegie Mellon University.
Facebook Nabs Brunswick Exec for Top Communications Job
Brunswick Group's US managing partner Michael Buckley is leaving the agency for a top communications role at Facebook. He has been working with Facebook on a range of corporate and other PR issues over the last several years will be joining the social networking giant as VP of business communications. Buckley has been with the global strategy and communications consultancy Brunswick Group, one of Facebook’s outside agencies, where he represented a number of clients. Before Brunswick, he served as senior MD and national director of the litigation group at Hill & Knowlton.
Bell Canada Enterprises Names Former CPP Investment Board CEO as New Director
Bell Canada Enterprises appointed David F. Denison, 60, as a Director of BCE and Bell Canada. Mr. Denison has served as President and CEO of the Canada Pension Plan (CPP) Investment Board. Prior to his appointment to the CPP Investment Board, he was President of Fidelity Investments Canada. He serves as a Director at Royal Bank of Canada (RBC) and as a member of the World Bank Treasury Expert Advisory Committee. He is a director of The United Way of Greater Toronto, and a member of the Toronto Community Foundation Investment Committee and the University of Toronto Investment Advisory Committee.
eBay Director Resigns; Joins AOL Board
Dawn G. Lepore, 57, a director of eBay, has resigned from the company’s board. She has been newly elected to AOL’s board. Lepore is CEO at Prosper Marketplace, a peer-to-peer lending marketplace. Formerly, she was CEO and Chairman of drugstore.com, a leading online retailer of health, beauty, and wellness products, until its sale to Walgreens. Prior to that, she held leadership positions at The Charles Schwab Company, like Vice Chairman of technology, operations, administration, strategy and active trader, was CIO, a member of Schwab's executive committee and a trustee of SchwabFunds.
