Alphabet Appoints Well-known Economist and Former TIAA CEO to Board
Alphabet appointed Roger W. Ferguson, Jr., 64, to its Board of Directors. Ferguson is a respected leader in the economics and finance industries. Ferguson has served as the President and CEO of TIAA since April 2008. He joined TIAA after his tenure at Swiss Re, where he served as Chairman of the firm's America Holding Corporation, Head of Financial Services, and a member of the Executive Committee from 2006 to 2008.
Google Reorganizes under New Holding Company Alphabet; Sundar Pichai to Lead Largest Subsidiary Google as CEO
Google reorganizes itself into a new holding company, Alphabet, whose largest wholly owned subsidiary will be Google. Google Co-Founders Larry Page and Sergey Brin will be Alphabet’s CEO and President, respectively. Eric Schmidt will be the Executive Chairman of Alphabet. SVP of Corporate Development, Chief Legal Officer and Secretary of Google David C. Drummond will be the Chief Legal Officer and Secretary. The company’s Chief Business Officer, Omid Kordistani, will step down and become an adviser to Alphabet and Google.
Former HP Cloud Leader Joins Cisco CTO Role
Cisco named Zorawar Biri Singh as CTO and SVP, Platforms and Solutions. His appointment comes as CTO and Chief Strategy Officer Padmasaree Warrior takes her leave. Singh will be responsible for driving thought leadership around Cisco’s long term technology roadmap, platforms and architectures.
IBM Sees Changes in Cloud Leadership
Lance Crosby, 44, CEO of SoftLayer, the cloud services company that IBM acquired in mid-2013 and which now forms the backbone of its cloud services business unit, has left. Crosby, who ran SoftLayer for eight years as a privately held company, stayed on for about 19 months after IBM agreed to pay about $2 billion for it.
Healthcare Automation Leader TeleTracking Adds New CTO for Larger Healthcare Role
TeleTracking Technologies hired CTO Joseph Tetzlaff from inVentiv Health. In his prior role, Tetzlaff was responsible for technology across inVentiv Health's Clinical Division and developed/maintained applications to support Clinical Trial processes as well as acquisition integrations. Before that, he was CIO at the Ingenix subsidiary of United Health Group and CTO of i3, another UHG subsidiary, CTO at WK Health and Ovid Technologies.
Equinix Names Former Verizon Finance Exec to Board
The global interconnection and data center company, Equinix, named Tom Bartlett, 54, CFO and treasurer for American Tower, to its board of directors. He is also responsible for American Tower’s global IT function. Prior to joining American Tower, he spent 25 years with Verizon and its predecessor organizations, where he held a number of leadership positions both in the U.S. and abroad. Most recently, he served as president and CEO of Bell Atlantic International Wireless, responsible for all wireless activities in Latin America, Europe and Asia. While at Verizon, Bartlett served as corporate controller, as well as chief compliance officer and principal accounting officer.
