IBM Appoints New Chief Digital Officer for India & South Asia
IBM has appointed Nipun Mehrotra as chief digital officer for India & South Asia, and the appointment comes with months of Bob Lord, IBM's first ever chief digital officer, being charged with bringing together the digital business group (DBG). Over the past two years, as the VP for strategy growth initiatives, Mehrotra led IBM's transformational strategy across several areas in Asia & India.
Microsoft Names LinkedIn’s Kevin Scott as CTO
Microsoft has named Kevin Scott to a newly created role of CTO for the company. This is an expansion of Scott's new role at LinkedIn as SVP of Infrastructure. Prior to his role as SVP of Engineering and Operations at LinkedIn, Scott held a number of engineering leadership roles at Google and AdMob. While pursuing a Ph.D. in computer science at the University of Virginia, Scott was an intern with Microsoft Research in 2001. Scott is an adviser to several Silicon Valley startups, an active angel investor and founder of the nonprofit organization Behind the Tech.
Google Appoints Former Ford CEO to Board; Chief Business Officer Leaves
Google appointed former CEO of Ford Motor from 2006 to 2014, Alan Mulally, 68, to board, bringing expertise and connections as Google seeks to play a bigger role in automobiles with its Android software and self-driving car technology. Before Ford, Mulally served as EVP of the Boeing Company and President and CEO of Boeing Commercial Airplanes. Prior to that, he served as President of Boeing's space and defense business. He is a member of the U.S. National Academy of Engineering and a fellow of England's Royal Academy of Engineering.
Google Loses Its Wallet VP; Company Hires Head of Design
Osama Bedier, who joined Google in 2011 and headed the Google Wallet payment business as VP of Wallet & Payments, is leaving the company. Previously, he served as VP, Product Development at PayPal, Director-Technology at DG Systems/Starguide Satellite Systems, Sr. Manager, B2B eCommerce at Gateway, and Web Architect/Manager at AT&T Wireless.
Cisco Appoints salesforce.com CEO and Well-known Former Government Official to Board
Cisco appointed Marc Benioff, 47, Chairman and CEO of salesforce.com and Dr. Kristina M. Johnson, Ph.D., 54, CEO of Enduring Energy, to its Board. Marc Benioff co-founded Salesforce.com in 1999 and has been its CEO since 2001 and Chairman since 1999. He serves as General Advisor of Keas. He was employed at Oracle where he held a number of positions in sales, marketing and product development, and served as SVP.
Skype Appoints Former Yahoo! CMO
Skype, a division of Microsoft, added Elisa Steele to its senior management team as Corporate VP to lead marketing. In this role, Elisa will oversee Skype's global brand and marketing functions, as well as local go-to-market activities. Elisa joins Skype after serving as EVP and CMO at Yahoo!. Prior to Yahoo!, Elisa she was SVP of Corporate Marketing at NetApp and led Sun Microsystems' integrated marketing and merchandising organization as VP. Elisa was a top performing sales leader at AT&T for several years.
