GE Board Nominates Former SEC Chair to Board

General Electric has nominated Mary Schapiro, 57, former chairman of the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC), as a GE director. Prior to becoming SEC chairman, Schapiro served as CEO of the Financial Industry Regulatory Authority (FINRA), president, vice-chair and chair of the National Association of Securities Dealers (NASD) Regulation. She served as a commissioner of the SEC before that, and left the SEC when appointed chairman of the CFTC.

Qualcomm Strengthens Silicon Valley Presence with Appointment of BD Leader

Qualcomm, the powerful mobile chipmaker, has hired well-known Silicon Valley investor Laurie Yoler as SVP of business development, responsible for augmenting existing business relationships in Silicon Valley, as well as developing new strategic business opportunities for Qualcomm in the region. Yoler has most recently been a long-time partner and managing director at GrowthPoint Technology Partners, an investment bank in the area, working with a range of companies and start-ups. Yoler has been an integral part of the development and launch of many new innovations and products, including within large companies like Visa, Sun Microsystems, and Accenture, as well as with a small group of founders, investors and advisors of a new entrepreneurial venture with a radical idea such as Tesla Motors, DNA Direct, and Packet Design.

GE Elects Cognizant’s CEO to Board

General Electric Company has elected Francisco "Frank" D'Souza, 43, CEO and director, Cognizant Technology Solutions, as director. In addition to his leadership of Cognizant, D'Souza is a director of the U.S.-India Business Council and a Trustee of Carnegie Mellon University.

Telecom Services CEO Lands on Board of Financial Holdings Company

Umpqua Holdings announced that it has appointed Dudley Slater to its Board of Directors. Slater most recently served as the CEO of Integra Telecom, a company he co-founded in 1996. Prior to Integra, he served as Principal of Rural Link Communications, an investment firm that provided funding and management services to telecommunications companies. Slater was awarded the 2011 Entrepreneur of the Year Award for the Northwest Region by E&Y.
