IBM Sees Changes in Cloud Leadership

Lance Crosby, 44, CEO of SoftLayer, the cloud services company that IBM acquired in mid-2013 and which now forms the backbone of its cloud services business unit, has left. Crosby, who ran SoftLayer for eight years as a privately held company, stayed on for about 19 months after IBM agreed to pay about $2 billion for it.

J.Crew CEO Millard “Mickey” Drexler, 70, who has served on the Board since 1999, notified the Board of his intention to retire at the end of his current term. His role will end in March; no one has been named to fill the vacancy. In addition to his position on Apple’s board, Drexler has been the CEO of J.Crew since 2003. Prior to that, he was the CEO of Gap.

Oracle Adds Former Defense Secretary as Director; Appoints President and Head of Office Retail

Oracle elected the Honorable Leon Panetta, 76, former U.S. Secretary of Defense and former Director of the Central Intelligence Agency, to the company's Board. Secretary Panetta served in the Obama Administration as U.S. Secretary of Defense from 2011 to 2013 and as Director of the Central Intelligence Agency from 2009 to 2011. Previously, he was White House Chief of Staff and Director of the Office of Management and Budget under President Bill Clinton, and member of the U.S. House of Representatives representing California's 16th district.

Google Appoints SVP of all Google products; Couple of Senior Execs Leave

Sundar Pichai, SVP, Android, Chrome and Apps has been promoted as SVP of all Google products. This excludes YouTube. Earlier, Pichai served as VP of Product Management joining Google in 2004. Before that, he held various engineering and product management positions at Applied Materials, and was a Management Consultant with McKinsey for a variety of software and semiconductor clients. He served as a Director of Jive Software as a Member of Board of Advisors at Ruba.

SAP Appoints Microsoft Cloud and Big Data Leader as CTO

SAP Appoints Quentin Clark, a 20-year veteran of Microsoft, as CTO. Most recently, Clark served as Microsoft’s Corporate VP in the business application space and before that was Corporate VP of data platform group, where he helped design and deliver the company’s big data platforms for both on premise (SQL Server) and Azure (PowerBI, HDInsight). Previously he was GM of the Database Systems Group, GM for WinFS project, Product Unit Manager for MOM/Application Center starting as a Software Engineer at the company in 1994.

Visa CEO and Kraft Foods’ CFO Join Microsoft’s Board; Couple of Long-Time Directors Leave

Visa’s CEO Charles W. Scharf, 49, and Kraft Foods’ EVP and CFO Teri List-Stoll, 51, are joining as board members of Microsoft. Scharf has served as CEO and a director of Visa since November 2012. Previously, he was a Managing Director of One Equity Partners, the private investment arm of JPMorgan Chase, CEO of Retail Financial Services at JPMorgan Chase, CEO of the retail division of Bank One Corporation, CFO of Bank One, CFO of the Global Corporate and Investment Bank division at Citigroup, and CFO of Salomon Smith Barney.

EMC Appoints Former Apple Executive Zane C. Rowe as CFO 

EMC named Zane C. Rowe, 43, as its EVP and CFO, succeeding David I. Goulden, 54, who will remain at the company as CEO of EMC Information Infrastructure. Goulden has been serving in a dual role since July 2012. Rowe most recently served as Head of Apple’s North America Sales joining the company in 2012.

IBM Appoints Early Pioneer in Health IT for the U.S. Army as CMIO for US Federal Healthcare Practice 

IBM added Keith Salzman, M.D., as Chief Medical Information Officer for IBM’s US Federal Healthcare Practice. Most recently, he was Chief Medical Information Officer of defense and civilian IT contractor CACI. Dr. Salzman brings more than two decades of experience in delivering quality care to patients and driving the use of medical informatics within the U.S. Department of Defense military health system at the Madigan Army Medical Center in Tacoma, Washington.

Microsoft Goes Through More Board and Senior Leadership Changes

Stephen J. Luczo, 57, Chairman and CEO of Seagate resigned from Microsoft Board. Luczo joined Microsoft’s board in May 2012. Prior to his current role, Luczo served at Seagate as President and COO, and SVP of Corporate Development. Prior to joining Seagate in 1993, he was Senior Managing Director of the Global Technology Group of Bear, Stearns & Co., an investment banking firm.
