VMware Goes Through Major Board and Leadership Shuffle

VMware elected Anthony J. Bates, 48, and Donald J. Carty, 69, to its board of directors. Carty joined the board in December 2015 and Bates joined on February 8, 2016. Bates currently serves as president and member of the board of directors at GoPro. Prior to GoPro, Bates was the EVP, Business Development and Evangelism of Microsoft and prior to that was the CEO of Skype until its acquisition by Microsoft in 2011.

Carty has been a director of EMC since January 2015. His past roles include vice chairman and CFO of Dell from January 2007 to June 2008, and chairman and CEO of AMR Corporation and American Airlines from May 1998 to April 2003.  Carty is also chairman of Virgin America Airlines and is a director of Canadian National Railway Company.

VMware announced that Jonathan Chadwick, 49, the EVP, CFO and COO of the company, is resigning and will be replaced by EMC's CFO, Zane Rowe, 44. Chadwick has served in his role since August 2014, joining VMware as CFO in 2012. Prior to joining VMware, Chadwick most recently served as the CFO of Skype since March 2011.

Rowe has been the CFO and EVP of EMC since October, 2014. Prior to that, Rowe served as VP of Sales at Apple since April 2012 and also served as its head of North America Sales.

Carl Eschenbach, president and COO, has resigned from his operational role to pursue a new career opportunity. Eschenbach's current responsibilities will be assumed by other members of VMware's leadership team.

VMware appointed Maurizio Carli to EVP, worldwide sales, responsible for Americas, APJ and EMEA as well as pre-and post-sales engineering, and all worldwide channels. Carli most recently led VMware's Americas region. Prior to that, Carli spent seven successful years leading the EMEA region. Carli also spent five years at Business Objects as SVP and general manager, EMEA, and 19 years at IBM.

Peter McKay will lead the Americas field organization moving forward. McKay most recently led the Americas Enterprise Segment and previously was COO for the Americas. He joined VMware as part of the Desktone acquisition in 2013.

Ray O'Farrell has been promoted to EVP and will be expanding his role as CTO and chief development officer to include responsibility for VMware's Global Services and Support, giving O'Farrell purview over VMware's entire customer product experience.

Sanjay Poonen, EVP and general manager, End-User Computing, will expand his role to also lead the company's worldwide marketing and communications functions. Poonen joined VMware in 2013 to lead the End-User Computing business, and previously held executive and general management positions at SAP, Symantec, Informatica, and engineering roles at Apple, and Microsoft.

VMware appointed Dr. Rajiv Ramaswami as General Manager and EVP of its Networking and Security Business. Ramaswami will replace Martin Casado. Casado will pursue a new career opportunity and will also be retained as an external VMware strategic advisor supporting the company in numerous ways.

Ramaswami most recently served as EVP and general manager of the Infrastructure & Networking Group of Broadcom Corporation. Prior to Broadcom, Ramaswami was VP and general manager of the Cloud Services and Switching Technology Group at Cisco.

VMware has appointed Jean-Phillipe (JP) Barleaza as VP, Channel and Alliances and General Business in EMEA. He has been a key member of the EMEA channel team since joining VMware in 2007 and acting VP since October 2015.

Henri van der Vaeren named as VP for South Europe, Middle East and Africa (EMEA). His previous appointments includes five years at SAP, where was managing director for France and BeLux, and a member of the EMEA Executive Committee.

Kerrie-Anne Turner is VMware’s new Australia head of channels and general business. Turner, who starts at VMware February 15, 2016, fills the vacancy left behind by John Donovans departure in October. Turner comes to the VMware channel manager seat from mobile software vendor StayinFront, where she was Asia-Pacific VP.

Workday Appoints Former Amgen CIO in Similar Role

Cloud based HCM solutions giant Workday has appointed Diana McKenzie as the company's CIO. Reporting directly to Co-President Mark Peek, Diana will have global responsibility for Workday's information services organization. Prior to joining Workday, Diana was SVP and CIO at Amgen.

Akamai Announces Re-Alignment of Organization Structure

President, Products and Development Rick McConnell will serve as General Manager of the Web Division and as President, overseeing corporate development and other core functions.

SVP & General Manager, Media Products Division Bill Wheaton will serve as General Manager of the Media Division and as EVP.

Sanjay Singh, formerly General Manager for APJ, will now report to Leighton as SVP of Global Operations, overseeing EMEA and APJ operations and Akamai's centers of excellence in Bangalore, Krakow and Costa Rica. Adam Karon will now report to Leighton as SVP, Global Services and Support.

Robert Hughes, who joined Akamai in 1999, and has led the Company's world-class sales, services and marketing organization, will become a Strategic Advisor to Leighton and the senior management team for the next year as part of a planned transition.

In addition to the Media and Web Divisions, Global Operations, and Services and Support, the other cross-divisional functions reporting to the CEO include Platform, Finance, Legal, Human Resources and Corporate Marketing and Communications.

Citrix Elects Chairman for soon-to-be Formed Company Comprised of the Citrix ‘GoTo’ Product Line

Citrix elected Kevin Parker, co-founder and senior operating principal at Bridge Growth Partners, as the Chairman of the Board for the soon-to-be formed company comprised of the Citrix ‘GoTo’ product line, effective upon separation in late 2016. Parker also serves on the boards of Cvent, Salient CRGT, Intermedia, Aptos Retail and Polycom. Prior to his current roles, Parker spent more than 20 years as a top executive in software and services companies. He was President, CEO and Chairman of the Board of Deltek.                                   

Rackspace Hosting Witnesses Board and Exec Changes

Sam Gilliland, Lead Director of Rackspace Hosting, provided notice to the Company that he is commencing a new role with a firm requiring his resignation from the Board effective immediately following the Company's 2016 annual stockholder meeting.

Rackspace Hosting announced that Tiffany Lathe is no longer designated as an Executive Officer following her transition of the global general counsel duties and responsibilities to the global SVP and General Counsel, Eugene V. DeFelice. Lathe had served as interim General Counsel since February 2014, and remains employed with the company as VP & General Counsel International.        

Zendesk Appoints Carl Bass to the Board of Directors

Zendesk, the cloud-based customer service software solutions company, announced that Carl Bass, 58, President and CEO of Autodesk, was appointed to the Zendesk Board. Bass brings to the board his deep experience in building and leading a multi-product company with billions in revenue that serves both enterprises and small organizations. Bass has held several executive positions, including CTO and chief operations officer, during his time at Autodesk.   

Synchronoss Technologies Appoints SVP of Finance and Corporate Development

Synchronoss Technologies, the mobile innovation leader that provides cloud solutions and software-based activation for connected devices globally, appointed Daniel H. Ives as SVP of Finance and Corporate Development. Ives joins Synchronoss after 16 years with FBR Capital Markets, where he was Managing Director and Senior Analyst for the Technology, Media and Telecoms equity research group, with a focus on enterprise software.
