Apple Appoints Former Boeing CFO to its Board

Apple appointed James Bell, Boeing's former CFO, to its board. Bell, who was Boeing's CFO from 2003 to 2012, is on the board of several other companies, including JPMorgan Chase and Dow Chemical. He also served as Boeing's interim CEO for several months in 2005 after the aircraft maker fired CEO Harry Stonecipher.

Former Deloitte & Touche Chair/CEO Joins Verizon Communications as Board Member

Verizon Communications elected Gregory G. Weaver, former chairman and CEO of Deloitte & Touche, to the Verizon Board of Directors. Weaver served from 2012 to 2014 and from 2001 to 2005 as chairman and CEO of Deloitte's audit and enterprise risk services firm, Deloitte & Touche, overseeing all operations, strategic positioning, audit quality and talent matters.

Comcast Appoints New Global CISO; Appoints US Regional SVP

Comcast promoted Myrna Soto to SVP, Global CISO. In this new role, Soto is responsible for the alignment and development of cyber and data security strategies and policies across the entire Comcast enterprise, including Comcast Cable, NBCUniversal and Comcast Spectacor. Prior to this appointment, Soto served as SVP, Chief Infrastructure and Information Security Officer (CIISO) within Engineering & Platform Services for Comcast Cable. Soto, who joined Comcast in 2009, has more than 25 years of information security and technology leadership experience in a number of industries, including financial services, hospitality, insurance/risk management and gaming/entertainment.

Comcast Cable also named Michael Parker as SVP of the company's Western New England Region, which is based in Berlin, Connecticut. He most recently served as VP of Operations for Comcast's Greater Chicago Region and also previously held leadership roles for the company in New York and Connecticut, Baltimore City, and Detroit. Before joining Comcast, Parker worked for Tele-Communications (TCI) and began his career serving as Illinois Assistant Attorney General.

Cisco Security Business Group Gets New VP from Newly Acquired Company OpenDNS

David Ulevitch, founder and CEO of OpenDNS, becomes VP at Cisco’s Security Business Group, as the company completes the acquisition of OpenDNS. OpenDNS employees joined the Cisco Security Business Group. Ulevitch started OpenDNS in 2005 after identifying a need for a better performing and more secure DNS service than what was previously available to network administrators. While at University, he created one of the first DNS management companies, EveryDNS, to fill his need for web-based DNS management software. Ulevitch has an extensive background in networking and operations.

Nokia Hires CMO for Nokia Technologies Unit and Corporate Affairs VP

Nokia hired Boon Lai to serve as chief marketing officer for its Nokia Technologies unit, the part of the company that plans to re-enter the phone business as soon as next year. Lai has been serving as chief marketing officer for Philips’ health and wellness business. s for phones, Nokia plans to help design the products, but will tap a partner to handle marketing, sales and distribution rather than rebuild the apparatus it sold to Microsoft.

Nokia has appointed Minna Aila as the VP of corporate affairs. Aila joins Nokia from Outotec where she was SVP, Marketing, Communications and Corporate Responsibility. Aila will be responsible for Nokia's Corporate Affairs, including Government Relations, Internal and External Communications and Corporate Responsibility.

Juniper Networks Appoints New General Counsel

Juniper Networks appointed Brian Martin as SVP, general counsel and corporate secretary. Martin brings nearly 20 years of corporate legal experience in the technology industry, most recently serving as EVP, general counsel and corporate secretary at KLA-Tencor Corporation. He also spent 10 years in senior legal positions at Sun Microsystems.

Martin succeeds Mitch Gaynor who, in March, announced his plan to leave his role as general counsel after 11 years with the company.

Avaya Appoints MEA and APAC Regional Head

Avaya has appointed Nidal Abou-Ltaif as president for Europe, Middle East & Africa (MEA), and Asia-Pacific (APAC). Since joining Avaya in 2003 as the regional sales leader for the Middle East, Abou-Ltaif has been instrumental in expanding the company’s presence in the rapidly expanding MEA region and beyond.

BlackBerry Acquires AtHoc; CEO to Lead the Division at BlackBerry

BlackBerry completed the acquisition of AtHoc, makers of a secure software platform for crisis communication, which will operate as a division of BlackBerry. AtHoc's CEO, Guy Miasnik, will lead the division as part of BlackBerry's senior leadership team reporting to John Chen, Executive Chairman and CEO.

Ciena Appoints New COO and EMEA CTO

Ciena appointed François Locoh-Donou as SVP and COO. Locoh-Donou has served as SVP of Ciena’s Global Products Group since 2011. He will assume responsibility for Ciena’s Global Field Organization. Prior, Locoh-Donou served as Ciena’s VP and GM, EMEA, and previously held various technical, marketing and sales management positions with the company, having re-joined Ciena in 2002 after starting at Ciena in 1997.

Ciena has appointed Joe Marsella as CTO for Europe, Middle East and Africa (EMEA). Prior to this new role, Marsella served in several capacities within Ciena; most recently as the Senior Director Product Line Management, responsible for the software strategy of Ciena's Agility software portfolio, now part of Ciena Blue Planet.

Viavi Solutions Names Caesars Entertainment and Deutsche Bank Securities Execs to Board

Viavi Solutions (formerly JDS Uniphase) appointed Donald Colvin and Tor Braham to the Viavi Board. Colvin served as CFO of Caesars Entertainment from November 2012 to January 2015, and Braham served as Managing Director and Global Head, Technology, Mergers and Acquisitions for Deutsche Bank Securities from 2004 until 2012.

Verizon Wireless Appoints President for Houston/Gulf Region

Verizon Wireless, operator of the nation's largest and most reliable 4G LTE network, announced that Keith Gladhill was named president – Houston/Gulf Region. He replaces Krista Bourne, who was recently named president – Carolinas and Tennessee region for Verizon. Gladhill's experience in the wireless industry spans 21 years with Verizon Wireless and its legacy companies. He has experience in the region as a previous director of retail and indirect sales, and also served as acting president of the Houston/Gulf Coast region during 2011-2012.
