Former HP Cloud Leader Joins Cisco CTO Role
Cisco named Zorawar Biri Singh as CTO and SVP, Platforms and Solutions. His appointment comes as CTO and Chief Strategy Officer Padmasaree Warrior takes her leave. Singh will be responsible for driving thought leadership around Cisco’s long term technology roadmap, platforms and architectures.
Singh joins Cisco from Khosla Ventures where he was a Venture Partner. Prior to that, he was SVP and GM of HP’s cloud business. He ran the giant’s cloud business to build HP’s OpenStack cloud technology and business from scratch. Before that, Singh was IBM’s VP for cloud computing for three years, having run overall strategy of IBM’s infrastructure, platform and SaaS.
Meanwhile, former Salesforce senior vice president enterprise transformation Kevin Brady was named Cisco's chief digital officer.
Vodafone Witnesses Director and CFO Changes
Hatem Dowidar, non-executive director has resigned from the Vodafone Group and will step down from the board in September. Replacing Hatem on the board is Marten Pieters, the former CEO and managing director of Vodafone India.
Ivan Dittrich, CFO and executive director at mobile operator Vodacom, has resigned from the company to pursue his own interests. Dittrich will also step down from the board. Till Streichert, currently executive director, finance of Vodacom South Africa will succeed Dittrich as CFO and executive director of the company. Till joined Vodacom in February 2014, prior to which he had been CFO of Vodafone Romania.
Qualcomm India Gets New Leader
Qualcomm appointed Sunil Lalvani as VP and president of Qualcomm India. He replaces Avneesh Agrawal, SVP and president of Qualcomm India and South Asia.
Lalvani joins Qualcomm from BlackBerry, where he served most recently as managing director of India and SAARC (South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation). Prior to that, Lalvani held the position of Director of Enterprise Sales. Lalvani also has worked at EMC, Nokia, Cisco Systems and SITA Equant Network (now Orange Business Services).
During his 21-year tenure, Agrawal has played a key role in many of the Company's key technology initiatives including leading the development of Qualcomm's first WCDMA and LTE chipsets, and has played a crucial role in driving Qualcomm's business in India and South Asia. In 2005 he assumed his role as SVP of engineering. He has been granted 159 US patents. Avneesh is moving on to pursue his entrepreneurial ambitions.
Sprint Gets New CFO and Announces Other Leadership Changes
Tarek Robbiati, 50, was named CFO. Robbiati most recently was Managing Director and CEO at FlexiGroup, an Australian consumer finance company specializing in leasing. Previously he held senior executive positions, including group managing director and deputy CFO of Telstra, Australia’s leading telecom company, CEO at CSL Limited, the number one mobile operator in Hong Kong and EVP and head of corporate finance for Orange Plc.
Joseph Euteneuer, chief financial officer, will leave the company following an orderly transition of responsibilities.
Günther Ottendorfer, 46, is joining the company as COO, technology. Ottendorfer previously served as CTO and a board member for Telekom Austria Group and MD of Optus Singtel in Sydney Australia.
John Saw, Chief Network Officer, is promoted to CTO. Before Sprint acquired Clearwire, Saw was Clearwire’s CTO.
Junichi Miyakawa, Technical COO, has been instrumental in developing the company’s network plans and will become a senior technical adviser in the Office of the CEO and a liaison between Softbank and Sprint for network strategy.
Motorola Solutions Appoints Silver Lake Partners to Board Along With Investment Push
Motorola Solutions named Egon P. Durban and Greg K. Mondre, managing partners of Silver Lake, to serve as directors, as Silver Lake invests $1 billion in the company.
Durban is a managing partner and managing director of Silver Lake, which he joined in 1999 as a founding principal. Durban serves on the board of Dell and Intelsat S.A., and is chairman of WME Entertainment.
Mondre joined Silver Lake in 1999 and is a managing partner and managing director based in New York. He currently serves as a director of Avaya, Go Daddy, Red Ventures, Sabre Holdings and Vantage Data Centers, and is on the operating committee of SunGard Capital.
New CIO of L-3 Communications is Former ITT Tech Exec
Ray DeLuke joined L-3 Communications as VP of IT & CIO. This role was previously held by Aaron Conner. DeLuke joins L-3 following a brief period as Exelis IT Integration lead for Harris Corporation. Prior to that, he served as VP of Shared Business Services and CIO at Exelis. He was CIO of ITT Exelis, Acting CIO for ITT Defense & Information Solutions beginning, and IT Director for ITT Advanced Engineering and Sciences (AES). Before becoming IT Director, he assumed roles of increasing responsibility at ITT AES, including Program Manager, Six Sigma Black Belt, and Director of Applications Services.
Ciena’s Worldwide Sales and Field Ops SVP Steps Down
Philippe Morin will step down as SVP of worldwide sales and field operations of global supplier of telecommunications networking equipment and software and services Ciena. Morin joined Ciena through its acquisition of Nortel’s Metro Ethernet Networks (MEN) business in 2010, having served in various leadership positions for more than 20 years at Nortel.
Cable One Elects Ernst & Young Exec to Board
Cable service provider Cable One elected Deborah J. Kissire to serve as a director of the Company. Kissire serves as Vice Chair, East Central Managing Partner of Ernst & Young. She serves as a Director at Junior Achievement and Greater Washington Board of Trade.
Mobile Mini Appoints Former GE Exec to Newly Created Role of SVP, Customer and Operational Excellence
Mobile Mini appointed Ryanne Tezanos as SVP, Customer and Operational Excellence. Tezanos is an experienced Six Sigma and operations executive, having spent more than 15 years in various sales and operational leadership positions within GE as well as at Cancer Treatment Centers of America. Some of her past positions include SVP at GE Capital, Global Director of Marketing for Ecomagination at GE and Director of Lean Six Sigma Operations at Cancer Treatment Centers of America.
Brightstar Appoints Veteran Banker as CFO
Brightstar, the world’s leading mobile products, services and technology organization, named Reza Taleghani as EVP and CFO. Taleghani joins from J.P. Morgan where he held leadership roles with a career spanning investment banking, commercial banking, and asset management. He was MD and Group Head of Corporate Client Banking for the Northeast and Canada regions. He subsequently worked in J.P. Morgan Asset Management as a MD and Market Manager in the Private Bank. Beyond banking, Taleghani served as the President and CEO of Sterling Airlines.
Vincent Donargo, Brightstar’s former CFO, was named EVP, Financial Operations & Transformation, and will manage the ongoing transformation of Brightstar’s finance organization.
