Evernote, the popular cloud-based productivity app provider, announced that Phil Libin will step down as CEO but remain as executive chairman. Chris O’Neill, who most recently ran the business operations at the Google X research unit, will take over as Evernote’s CEO.
Yahoo! CISO Alex Stamos Joins Facebook
Yahoo’s CISO Alex Stamos joined Facebook as Chief Security Officer. Stamos had joined Yahoo! a year back and led what the company refers to as its team of "Paranoids". Stamos is the former CTO of Artemis, a division of NCC Group. He is also a co-founder and partner at iSEC Partners, a strategic digital security organization. He is an experienced security engineer and a leading researcher in the field of web application and mobile security.
Stamos will replace Joe Sullivan who left Facebook earlier this year to join Uber Technologies.
Twitter Communications Chief and M&A Leader Step Down
Twitter's head of communications, Gabriel Stricker, has stepped down from the position. He is credited with having "turned around" Twitter's public reputation. Stricker was also praised for his handling of Twitter's IPO, which he managed without the assistance of any external consultants, as is the norm. Previously, Stricker was Director of Global Communications & Public Affairs at Google.
VP of Corporate Development and Strategy Rishi Garg, who led Twitter’s mergers and acquisitions team, has departed the company after just one year. Garg joined Twitter from a similar role at Square. Prior to Square, Rishi co-founded FanSnap, the leading live event ticket search company, which was acquired by Nextag.
eBay’s Deputy General Counsel and VP, North America Marketplaces Leave
eBay’s SVP and Deputy General Counsel Brad Serwin has left. He has joined Glassdoor as General Counsel, responsible for overseeing all legal matters as the company continues its growth within the employment industry and its global expansion into new markets. Prior to eBay, Serwin served as general counsel of Playdom till its 2012 acquisition by Walt Disney. Following the deal, Serwin was named COO overseeing Playdom's integration and subsidiary operations. He also previously served as general counsel of Dean & Deluca and Las Vegas Sands.
Jeff Somers, eBay’s VP of North America Marketplaces left for e-ticketing co. Ticketmaster Entertainment. At eBay, Somers was VP and responsible for managing the company's core business units, Motors, Fashion, Electronics, Home & Garden, Collectibles and Deals, and for launching new business on the eBay platform. Somers has spent close to 20 years in senior leadership roles across the consumer technology and e-commerce spaces at Amazon, Zillow, and Microsoft, and served as CEO of PluggedIn Media.
Zillow CFO Resigns
CFO Chad Cohen will resign from Zillow to pursue other business interests. Zillow Group is conducting a search for a new CFO, and Cohen will remain as CFO through second quarter earnings.
Wal-Mart E-Commerce Tech Director Named CIO at Online Retailer Yoox
Yoox, an Italian online retailer for high-end fashion brands, has named a former Wal-Mart Stores e-commerce technology director Alex Alexander as its first CIO. Alexander spent three years as multichannel technology director for Wal-Mart’s global e-commerce group, @WalmartLabs. There, he helped design and implement an omnichannel strategy for Asda Stores Ltd., a UK-based Wal-Mart subsidiary. Before Wal-Mart, he worked as a senior IT director for multichannel systems at Barclays’ retail banking unit.
Former McAfee Exec Joins Neustar to Lead Information Services Product Strategy and Execution
Neustar, a provider of real-time information services, appointed Brian Foster as SVP, Information Services. Prior to joining Neustar, Foster served as CTO for Damballa, a private company in the security services space. Prior to that, he was SVP of product management for McAfee, where he directed the strategy and development of its security solutions.
Reddit Chief Engineer Quits After Less Than Two Months on the Job
Reddit’s chief engineer Bethanye Blount quit just days after interim CEO Ellen Pao left the high-profile online community. Previously, Blount was the co-founder of the startup MailRank, which Facebook acquired in 2011. She worked for Facebook until June of this year, when she left to work for Reddit. Blount plans to launch a startup.
HP HR Exec Joins TrueCar as CHRO
TrueCar, the data-driven online platform for car buyers and dealers, has hired technology industry veteran Don Robertson as its EVP, people, and CHRO to bolster recruitment of top-tier talent needed to keep pace with the company’s expanding business. Robertson joins TrueCar from Hewlett Packard, where he has worked since 2001, most recently as SVP of human resources for Enterprise Services. He has over three decades of experience in human resources, business and general management roles, and has worked in finance positions for companies including GE Capital, the Stanford Research Institute and The Clorox Co.
Overstock.com’s BD Lead Resigns
David J. Nielsen, 45, SVP, Business Development, resigned from online retailer Overstock.com. Earlier, Nielsen served as a Co-President of Overstock.com and as its SVP of Merchandising & Supply Chain.
SurveyMonkey Appoints Sheryl Sandberg and Former Facebook CFO as Board Members and HP’s Bill Veghte as CEO
Facebook COO Sheryl Sandberg has joined the board of SurveyMonkey, the online survey company that had been headed by her late husband, David Goldberg.
In addition to Sandberg, former Facebook CFO David Ebersman is also becoming a director there. He is currently the CEO of Lyra Health.
Zander Lurie, SurveyMonkey’s temporary executive chairman who has been leading the company until a CEO is chosen, has been named permanent chairman of the board.
SurveyMonkey has named Bill Veghte as its new CEO and board member. Veghte had been COO as well as Chief of Strategy at HP; most recently, he was Head of its Enterprise Group. His departure there came amid a larger scale restructuring of the company as it splits in two. Veghte joined HP in 2010 after 20 years at Microsoft, most recently as SVP, Windows.
Kayak CEO Joins SeatGeek Board
Event ticket marketplace SeatGeek appointed Kayak co-founder and CEO Steve Hafner to its board of directors, as the New York City startup tries to become a serious competitor to bigger online ticketing companies such as StubHub. Haffner is former EVP, Consumer Travel of Orbitz.
Former Yahoo Product Leader to Head Chernin Group’s Digital Unit
The Chernin Group, the global next-generation media and entertainment platform, has hired former Yahoo top executive Mike Kerns as President of its Digital Unit. He served at Yahoo! as SVP of Product Homepage and Verticals. He was deeply involved in its efforts to expand video there. Yahoo had bought his last startup, Citizen Sports, five years ago.
In his new job, Kerns will also join the board of directors of Otter Media, the Chernin Group’s video venture with AT&T.
