Longtime Facebook Engineering Director David Recordon has been named the Director of IT at the White House. It’s a new position created by President Barack Obama, and Recordon will be responsible for improving the tech actually used at the White House.
VMware Hires its New CIO from Juniper Networks
VMware’s CIO Tony Scott was recently appointed to the role of United States CIO. As his replacement VMware hired Bask Iyer from Juniper Networks, where he is currently the CIO.
Iyer will be spearheading VMware's global information and technology organization, encompassing critical technology systems supporting the company's worldwide business operations. At Juniper, Iyer managed the company's technology and business operations, including critical services around business transformation, global business services, IT, and real estate and workplace services. Prior to Juniper, Iyer served as CIO at Honeywell as well as e-commerce chief at GlaxoSmithKline Beecham.
American Express Global Business Travel Appoints Core Products and Platform Architecture VP
American Express Global Business Travel (GBT) appointed Christophe Tcheng as VP, Core Products and Platform Architecture. At Amadeus, Tcheng held a number of roles of increasing responsibility in R&D, most recently serving as the Head of R&D Services and Ecosystems. Tcheng also acquired extensive experience in Departure Control Systems and travel-related software infrastructures.
Lenovo Sees CIO Replacement
Lenovo promoted Chief Strategy Officer Qingtong Zhou to the role of SVP and CIO. Zhou replaces Xiaoyan Wang, who becomes SVP of a newly created, yet-to-be-named, centralized services organization. Zhou earlier served as CFO, Emerging Market Geography at Lenovo and Associate Consultant at Bain.
The Carlyle Group Names Veteran Asset Management Executive as CIO
Global alternative asset manager The Carlyle Group hired Georgette Kiser as Managing Director and CIO. Kiser joins Carlyle from T. Rowe Price Group, a global investment management firm, where she was VP and Director of Enterprise Solutions and Capabilities for Services and Technology. Kiser joined T. Rowe Price in 1996 and served in a variety of increasingly senior roles, including Data Architect, Project Manager, VP for Global Business Solutions, and Emerging Solutions Manager for Investments, culminating in her most recent role.

Nationwide Home Loans named Michael Weiss as CTO. He will be crucial in enhancing the IT productivity with both automation and a proprietary software platform. Weiss has designed high availability database architecture using Microsoft SQL Clustering, which yielded a 99.99% uptime over 4 years. He established an effective Business Continuity/Disaster Recovery plan including; hot-site, tape vaulting, co-location, P2P and IPSec vpn. Weiss began his career blending IT with the Health industry some 25 years ago. Weiss started working with one of the acknowledged pioneers of MRI (then known as NMR) imaging – Dr. Raymond Damadian, at Fonar Corporation in Melville, NY.
Seton Hill Names Acting CIO as New CIO
Seton Hill University named Melissa Alsing as the University’s CIO. Alsing has served in various capacities at Seton Hill for six years. She came to the University in 2009 and served for four years as Director of Information Systems, DBA (Database Administrator). She was promoted to Executive Director of IT in 2013 and advanced to Acting CIO in February 2014.
Prior to arriving at Seton Hill, Alsing worked for eight years at Chatham University in Pittsburgh, Pa. where she served in several roles, including Manager of Administrative Systems, DBA; Manager of Web Development; Web Development Specialist; and Administrative Computing Specialist.
TriNet Appoints Two Key Technology Execs to Grow its Software Products and Technology Infrastructure
Craig Flower joins TriNet, a leading cloud-based provider of HR solutions, as CTO, while Sateesh Chilukuri is taking on the role of VP of software development. Prior to TriNet, Flower worked in management positions for nearly two decades at Hewlett-Packard, most recently as SVP and CIO.
Chilukuri is an award-winning leader who held executive roles in product development and engineering for leading technology companies, most recently at Lithium and prior to that at Intuit, where he worked for more than 10 years.
RSA Hires Cloud Security Exec as CTO
RSA, the security division of EMC, appointed Dr. Zulfikar Ramzan as CTO. Prior to joining RSA, Dr. Ramzan served as CTO of Elastica, a cloud security startup launched in 2012. Before Elastica, Dr. Ramzan respectively served as Chief Scientist of both Sourcefire, acquired by Cisco in October 2013, and malware analytics company Immunet, acquired by Sourcefire in 2010. Dr. Ramzan previously served as the Technical Director of Symantec's Security Technology and Response division where he was the architect for the company's reputation-based malware detection technology.
