In order to evaluate the incumbent CTO, Vell used the following scorecard for the connected vehicle solutions company. The scorecard directly corresponds to his key responsibilities around eight areas. This scorecard can provide substantial feedback and a valuable ground for discussion with the candidates.

Experience with a mix of aggressive organic growth and M&A is highly desirable 


A demonstrated track record of identifying new technologies for both internal development and for acquisition.



Functional Experience: Evangelist & Stakeholder Communications 


Candidate Experience 

Proven ability to be a thought leader, with experience presenting at various conferences, through white papers and to customers/stakeholders 


Ability to work with key board members is essential 



Functional Experience: Size of company 


Candidate Experience 

Ability to work in a mid-sized company is strongly desired, ie $200m to $2 billion or a combination of small and large companies is preferred. 



Domain/Industry Experience: Software / SaaS /Mobile/ Automotive 

Experience with a SaaS / Software / Mobile applications 


Experience with the automotive ecosystem and understanding of trends 



Technical Depth with a Business Orientation 

The successful executive will be have deep technical roots, and be able to understand the nature of the solutions being delivered and these solutions entail 


An ability to learn new technologies and technical trends quickly 


An ability to connect technical opportunities to the strategy and the bottom line is essential 





Candidate Experience 

University degree in the field of computer science and or business administration. Master’s or PhD. degree in Computer Science preferred.

Dora Vell

Dora Vell is the Managing Partner of Vell Executive Search, a boutique executive search firm in Boston focused on recruiting technology executives and board members. Vell is a member of the National Association of Corporate Directors (NACD), the Boston CEO Roundtable. She has served on the boards of Framingham State, Entrepreneur's Organization, Goodwill, Mary Centre for developmentally handicapped adults,, and RBC Capital Partners.

She has received an MBA from the University of Toronto, a Master in Computer Science from the University of Waterloo, and a Bachelor in Computer Science from Carleton. She has also completed the MIT Entrepreneurial Master’s program.
