Google Appoints SVP of all Google products; Couple of Senior Execs Leave

Sundar Pichai, SVP, Android, Chrome and Apps has been promoted as SVP of all Google products. This excludes YouTube. Earlier, Pichai served as VP of Product Management joining Google in 2004. Before that, he held various engineering and product management positions at Applied Materials, and was a Management Consultant with McKinsey for a variety of software and semiconductor clients. He served as a Director of Jive Software as a Member of Board of Advisors at Ruba.

Andy Rubin, who headed Google’s robotics business, has left the company to start his own tech incubator focused on start-ups interested in building hardware. Rubin was a founder of Android, the mobile operating system behind Google’s smartphones and tablets, which Google acquired in 2005.

James Kuffner, a research scientist at Google, will take over the robotics group. Kuffner  is also Adjunct Associate Professor at the Robotics Institute, Carnegie Mellon University.

Longtime Google VP, Global Online Sales, Claire Johnson, has left. She joins Stripe as its new Chief of business operations. Johnson, who has been at the search giant since 2004, has most recently been leading the product, business and operations for its self-driving car efforts at the Google X division. But she has held a wide variety of jobs at Google, from the launch of Gmail, Google Apps and also running a consumer operations unit. In addition, Johnson has had deep sales experience, in both mobile and video ads, while there. Interestingly, she began her career in Massachusetts state politics.

Amazon Taps Former Dow Jones CIO to Join AWS Unit; Global Ad Sales Exec Leaves

Amazon has appointed the former CIO and global head of technology at Dow Jones, Stephen Orban as Head of Enterprise Strategy at Amazon Web Services. Orban also spent a decade at Bloomberg, where he co-founded Bloomberg Sports and developed private cloud infrastructure for the company's web properties.

Global VP, Advertising Sales, Lisa Utzschneider, leaves to join Yahoo!. Utzschneider joined Amazon in 2008, assuming ad sales and operations responsibilities for a range of Amazon owned and operated websites, including Amazon, IMDb and DPReview. Prior to Amazon, Lisa spent 10 years at Microsoft where her most recent position at Microsoft was GM of Sales and Account Services Group.

Yahoo! Hires Americas Sales Leader from Amazon; While Small Business VP leaves

Yahoo!’s VP & GM, Small Business, Amit Kumar, leaves. Kumar is a well-regarded entrepreneur who has sold two startups Lexity and Dapper to Yahoo. Before working on the start-ups, he had worked at Yahoo for many years as Director, Product Management, Yahoo! Search and Engineering Manager, Web Search, focusing on search and semantic advertising, including inventing SearchMonkey.

Twitter Sees Two More Exits; Former Twitter COO Joins Y Combinator

Jeremy Gordon, VP of Consumer Product Engineering and Adam Kinney, Head of Analytics, are both leaving Twitter. Gordon has earlier served as Senior Director, Product Engineering; Director, Mobile; and Engineering Manager, Cards Platform.

Adam Kinney has left Twitter to join publisher Schibsted as its Head of Data Science.

Former Twitter COO Ali Rowghani has joined well-known startup incubator Y Combinator as a part-time partner. Rowghani will help companies that are a few years out of the incubator scale and grow. Rowghani, who joined Twitter as CFO in 2010 before becoming COO, left the company earlier this year. He joined Twitter from Pixar Animation Studios, where he served for about eight years, most recently as the CFO.

Groupon’s New Product Boss Leaving After Less Than Two Months

SVP of Product, Parker Barrile, is exiting his role as Groupon. The former LinkedIn product executive was hired couple of months earlier to fill the role vacated earlier this year by his predecessor, Jeff Holden, who left Groupon for Uber.

RetailMeNot CFO Steps Down

Digital coupon marketplace RetailMeNot’s CFO Douglas C. Jeffries has decided to step down. Louis J. Agnese, the Company's General Counsel and Secretary, will serve as interim CFO until a permanent replacement has been found. Agnese joined RetailMeNot as General Counsel in 2011 and previously worked as a corporate attorney at DLA Piper and Akin Gump Strauss Hauer & Feld.

Gannett Names New CEO for its Automotive Classified Website Cars.com

Gannett named Alex Vetter, EVP and COO for Cars.com, as President and CEO of Cars.com. Vetter has operated in nearly every capacity at Cars.com, serving as SVP of Cars.com since 2006 until recently taking on the new and expanded role of EVP and COO.

Former Cars.com CEO Dan Jauernig has decided to return to his home city of Toronto to be closer to his family and has joined a leading financial services firm.
