Yahoo’s New CIO and SVP for Infrastructure is a Former IT Ops Exec from NetFlix
Yahoo! hired Mike Kail as its CIO, from the streaming video group Netflix. Kail will also hold the title of SVP for Infrastructure and will lead Yahoo's IT and data center operations. Kail was VP of IT Operations at Netflix and previously worked at Attensity, where he was responsible for the Americas data center operations team.
The Hartford Re-Appoints Tech Exec as EVP, Ops and Tech to Advance Business Strategy
The Hartford appoints Bill Bloom as EVP of Operations and Technology, with responsibility of the IT and operations organizations, as well as the company’s technology strategy. Bloom joins The Hartford from EXL, where he was President, Global Client Services. Previously, he held leadership roles at Accenture and served as EVP, Insurance Operations and IT at Travelers. Earlier in his career, he held leadership positions with The Hartford’s Group Benefits business.
M&T Bank Names Citibank Tech Exec as CTO
M&T Bank, an American commercial bank, has named Citibank executive Julieta Ross to the newly created role of SVP and CTO. Ross spent the past 13 years with Citibank, most recently as the bank’s CTO for Latin America and Mexico. Her background also includes roles with Motorola Research, where she was involved in projects instrumental to the development of smartphones and became a key author in the development of Bluetooth technology and patents. At Arpro Technology, Ross helped develop one of the first Internet search engines.

United States Department of Interior Appoints iCIO as Permanent CIO
United States Department of Interior appointed its interim CIO Sylvia Burns, an IT executive with the Department since 2006, as CIO. Burns had served as acting CIO since March 2014. Before that, she was associate deputy CIO for policy, planning and compliance. Before joining Interior's CIO office, Burns worked in the Bureau of Indian Affairs, an Interior Department component. She also worked in the Department of Commerce in the International Trade Administration.
U.S. Department of Transportation Appoints New CTO
Maria Roat, the Federal Risk Management and Authorization Director at the U.S. General Services Administration, has been appointed as the CTO at the U.S. Department of Transportation. Roat was previously the Deputy CIO at the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) and was the Chief of Staff at the U.S. Department of Homeland Security’s Office of the CIO.
