Apple Appoints BlackRock’s Founding Partner to Board

Apple appoints Susan L. Wagner, 53, founding partner and director of BlackRock, to board. Bill Campbell, 73, the board’s longest-serving member, is retiring after 17 years of service. Wagner co-founded BlackRock in 1988 and helped it become one of the world’s most successful asset-management companies, holding a range of leadership positions including vice chairman until mid-2012. She continues to serve on the boards of BlackRock and DSP BlackRock (India), as well as Swiss Re, Wellesley College and Hackley School. 

Lockheed Martin’s Information Systems EVP and Former CIO Joins 3M Board 

3M announced the appointment of Sondra Barbour, 51, to its Board of Directors. Barbour currently is EVP of Lockheed Martin’s Information Systems & Global Solutions business division. Prior to that, she served as SVP of the Enterprise Business Services organization and Lockheed’s CIO, heading all of the corporation’s internal IT operations, including protecting the company’s infrastructure and information from cyber threats. Her experience also includes leadership in Shared Services and Internal Audit functions providing knowledge and oversight of supply chain activities, internal controls, and risk management.

Retired CFO of Ahold USA Joins as Director of Western Digital

Western Digital appoints Paula A. Price, 52, to its board of directors. Price is currently senior lecturer at Harvard Business School in the Accounting and Management Unit. She was EVP and CFO of Ahold USA until January 2014. Price also serves on the boards of Accenture, Blue Cross Blue Shield of Massachusetts and Financial Guaranty Insurance Company, and on the board of overseers for the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston.

Unum Group Appoints U.S. Treasury Adviser as Board Member

U.S. disability insurer Unum Group announced that Cynthia Egan, 58, senior advisor to the Treasury Department and former president of retirement plan services at T. Rowe Price Group, as a director. Egan is currently advising senior Treasury officials on the development of “myRA”, the Treasury-sponsored program that is being created to support retirement savings for workers who are not covered by defined contribution or other structured retirement programs. Prior to her role with the U.S. Treasury Department and T. Rowe Price, Egan was a long-time member of the executive team at Fidelity Investments where she was most recently EVP of Fidelity Institutional Tax-Exempt Services Company, and before that worked at KPMG Peat Marwick and Bankers Trust Company.

CEO of New York Public Radio Joins Tribune Board

Tribune Company elected Laura R. Walker to its Board of Directors. Walker is President and CEO of New York Public Radio. She joined the Sesame Workshop (formerly Children's Television Workshop) in 1987, where for eight years she worked on programming and development initiatives, and led the organization's efforts to establish a cable television channel (now Noggin). In 1983, she joined the staff of Carnegie Hall, where she launched the award-winning series AT&T Presents Carnegie Hall Tonight. Walker began her professional career as a journalist and producer at National Public Radio, where she received a Peabody Award for Broadcast Excellence.

ServiceNow Adds Seasoned Female Execs as Directors

ServiceNow appointed Susan Bostrom, 53, and Anita Sands, 38, to its board of directors. Bostrom spent 14 years at Cisco, serving most recently as EVP
and CMO. Bostrom served in a number of positions at Cisco, including SVP, Global Government Affairs and the Internet Business Solutions Group and VP of Applications and Services Marketing. She currently serves on the boards of Varian Medical Systems, Cadence Design Systems, Marketo, and Rocket Fuel. 

Anita Sands joins the ServiceNow board with significant financial services background, most recently serving as group managing director, head of change leadership and a member of the Wealth Management Americas Executive Committee of UBS Financial Services. She also served as COO at UBS. Prior to joining UBS, she was MD and head of transformation management at Citigroup Global Technology and Operations organization. She also held several leadership positions with RBC Financial Group and CIBC. Sands currently serves on the board of Symantec.

Dora Vell

Vell is a member of the National Association of Corporate Directors (NACD), the Boston CEO Roundtable. She has served on the boards of Framingham State, Entrepreneur's Organization, Goodwill, Mary Centre for developmentally handicapped adults, garage.ca, and RBC Capital Partners.

She has received an MBA from the University of Toronto, a Master in Computer Science from the University of Waterloo, and a Bachelor in Computer Science from Carleton. She has also completed the MIT Entrepreneurial Master’s program.
