Nokia Promotes Networks Head Rajeev Suri as CEO 

Nokia named Rajeev Suri, 46, as CEO, replacing Risto Siilasmaa, 47, who had served as the interim CEO since Microsoft’s acquisition of Nokia's handset division last September. Siilasmaa also serves as Nokia's chairman. He assumed the interim CEO role when Stephen Elop, 50, joined Microsoft as head of its devices group.

Newly appointed CEO Suri is the head of the Nokia Solutions and Networks division (previously known as Nokia Siemens Networks), since 2009. He headed the Services Division of Nokia Siemens Networks from 2007 until 2009 from India, and served as its Head of Asia Pacific in 2007 for few months. He served in various role at Nokia Networks like - SVP, Nokia Networks Asia Pacific; VP, Hutchison Customer Business Team; GM, BD, Asia Pacific; Sales Director of BT, O2 and Hutchison Global Customers; Director of Technology and Applications for BT Global Customer; Head of Global Competitive Intelligence; Head of Product Competence Center, South Asia; and System Marketing Manager form Cellular Transmission, India. He joined the company in 1995.

Before Nokia, Suri served as Head of Group Procurement for imports and special projects at Churchgate Group, Nigeria; National Account Manager for Transmission/Manager of Strategic Planning at ICL India (ICIM); handled corporate business development for new Ventures and strategic planning at RPG Group and was Production Engineer at Calcom Electronics starting 1989.

Nokia has three businesses left after the handset division sale: the networks division, maps business, and the unit responsible for licensing its patents.

Vell is a member of the National Association of Corporate Directors (NACD), the Boston CEO Roundtable. She has served on the boards of Framingham State, Entrepreneur's Organization, Goodwill, Mary Centre for developmentally handicapped adults, garage.ca, and RBC Capital Partners.

She has received an MBA from the University of Toronto, a Master in Computer Science from the University of Waterloo, and a Bachelor in Computer Science from Carleton. She has also completed the MIT Entrepreneurial Master’s program.
