AT&T Appoints Chief Medical Adviser for Mobile Health Strategy

Eric Topol has been named chief medical adviser at AT&T. In the new role of Chief Medical Advisor, Topol will offer strategic guidance as the company adds mobile devices and mHealth products and services. In addition to his duties at AT&T Topol will continue to serve as the the Chief Academic Officer at Scripps Health and as the editor-in-chief of Medscape. Before moving to Scripps Topol had been the chairman of cardiovascular medicine at the Cleveland Clinic. Topol, along with Robert Califf, was the leading force behind the highly influential GUSTO trials and their predecessor, the TAMI trials.

Accretive Health Appoints Sedgwick’s CIO 

Accretive Health has appointed Patrick Funck as SVP and CIO, to accelerate investment in innovative technology solutions that deliver on patient engagement strategies and enable future growth for the organization. Most recently, he served as EVP and CIO at Sedgwick, a large third party administrator he joined in 2007. Prior to Sedgwick, he was CIO for third party claims administrator Broadspire Services. His career also includes service as VP, IT at Zurich Financial Services and VP, IT at CNA Financial Corporation.

Merge Healthcare Appoints Director with Significant Business and Software Experience

Merge Healthcare, the company that develops software solutions that facilitate the sharing of images to create an electronic healthcare experience, appointed William J. Devers Jr., president of Devers Group, as a director. Devers was the CEO of Trans Union Credit Information Company. He left Trans Union in 1983 and started Devers Group as a vehicle for his private investments. Currently, he manages DGI Private Equity Ventures, and serves on the Board of Ryan Specialty Group, Lurie Children's Hospital of Chicago, the Big Shoulders Fund and is a non-voting shareholder of Merrick Ventures.

Telehealth Solutions Firm Appoints Healthcare Informatics and Operational Management Expert as New Chief Medical Officer 

AMC Health, a leading provider of end-to-end telehealth solutions, appointed Kevin Fickenscher, M.D., CPE, FACPE, FAAFP, former President and CEO of the American Medical Informatics Association (AMIA), as its Chief Medical Officer and President, Healthcare Division. Missouri Health Connection, Missouri's statewide health information network, named Mark Pasquale as its new CEO, replacing Marc C. Andiel, who has been serving as the interim CEO. Prior to joining MHC, Pasquale was VP, CIO at Piedmont Healthcare.
