Acer’s Board Elects New Chairman

Acer elected the company founder, Stan Shih, as Chairman and interim Corporate President. Shih chaired Acer until his retirement late in 2004. Shih founded Acer (originally named as Multitech, but later changed to Acer in 1987) in 1976. Shih is also the founder and is a Partner of iD Innovation. In 1972, he helped establish Qualitron Industrial, and led the team that designed the world's first pen watch. He began his career at Unitron Industrial Corp. in 1971 and successfully designed, developed and commercialized Taiwan's first desktop calculator.

 

Twitter Adds First Female Director to Board

Twitter has appointed its first female director, former publishing executive Marjorie Scardino, 66. Scardino was CEO of London-based Pearson, a publishing and education company, from 1997 to 2012. From 1985 to 1997 she served in several roles, including CEO, at The Economist Group, a media company.

 

Cerner’s New Director is President of Purdue University

Cerner appointed Mitchell E. Daniels Jr., 64, to board. He is president of Purdue University, a role he assumed in January 2013 after serving as Governor of Indiana since 2004. His work as CEO of the Hudson Institute and President of Eli Lilly and Company's North American Pharmaceutical Operations taught him the business skills he brought to state government. He also served as Chief of Staff to Senator Richard Lugar, Senior Advisor to President Ronald Reagan and Director of the Office of Management and Budget under President George W. Bush. Currently, Daniels serves as co-chair of the National Research Council and as a director for Energy Systems Network.

Motorola Solutions Board Member Resigns

William J. Bratton, 66, resigned from data communications and telecommunications equipment provider Motorola Solutions’ Board. Bratton's resignation is in connection with his appointment as New York City's next police commissioner. He has previously served as the Commissioner of the Boston Police Department, New York City Police Department Commissioner, and Chief of the Los Angeles Police Department.

 

Former Fiserv CEO Joins FIS as Board Member

Fidelity National Information Services appointed Les Muma to the company's board of directors. Muma served as the CEO of Fiserv. He also served as President and COO there. He has over 35 years of data processing experience. Since 1973, he served as President and CEO  of Sunshine State System, a subsidiary of First Federal. From 1971 to 1984, he served as the President of Data Management Resources. Muma began his extensive career in data processing with "Cooperative Education Assignments" at Southern Bell and International Mineral and Chemical. He joined IMC in their IT Department. He later held a similar position with a public school system in Central Florida before joining Price Waterhouse as an IT consultant.

Workday Appoints Yahoo! Co-Founder as Board Member

Workday appointed Yahoo! co-founder, Jerry Yang, 45, to its Board of Directors. Yang most recently founded AME Cloud Ventures, a VC firm. While at Yahoo!, he led a number of initiatives, including two of the biggest investments in the Internet: Yahoo Japan and Alibaba Group. Yang served as a director of Yahoo Japan, Alibaba Group Holding and Cisco. He currently serves as a board observer for Lenovo.

ServiceNow Elects Silver Lake Partners’ MD to Board

Provider of cloud-based services to automate enterprise IT operations, ServiceNow, elects Charles Giancarlo to the Board. Giancarlo has served as a managing director of Silver Lake Partners since 2008. He also served in numerous senior executive roles at Cisco, most recently as the EVP and Chief Development Officer. He serves on the boards of Accenture, Avaya, and Imperva.

Guidewire Software Appoints Former Group CTO of UBS to Board

Andrew W. F. Brown has been elected as a Director of Guidewire Software, the software provider to property and casualty insurance carriers. He is currently CEO of Street Scale IT Group, a company providing IT services associated with datacenters and cloud hosting to the financial sector and other regulated industries. Past positions include roles as Group CTO of UBS, head of strategy, architecture and optimization at Bank of America Merrill Lynch, and CTO of Infrastructure at Credit Suisse. He was also a founder of Desktone, which sold to VMware in November 2013.

IT Performance Company Compuware Goes Through Board Shuffles

Compuware Corporation announced that Jeffrey J. Clarke, Managing Partner at Augusta Columbia Capital, and Jennifer J. Raab, President of Hunter College have been appointed to the company's Board. They replace two directors who are stepping down: Glenda D. Price, Ph.D. and Ralph J. Szygenda.

Clarke currently serves as Managing Partner at Augusta Columbia Capital, a technology-focused private equity firm. Prior to joining ACC, he was President and CEO of Travelport, a leading technology and distribution company in the travel industry. Clarke also served as the Chief Operating Officer of CA Technologies. Clarke is currently the Chairman of Orbitz Worldwide and a director at Travelport and Red Hat.

Jennifer J. Raab is the President of Hunter College in New York. Prior to joining Hunter College, she served as Chairman and Commissioner of the New York City Landmarks Preservation Commission. In addition to her substantial management and academic experience, Raab has significant legal expertise, serving as a litigator at two of the nation's most prestigious law firms: Cravath, Swaine & Moore and Paul, Weiss, Rifkind, Wharton & Garrison. She is a member of the Council on Foreign Relations and serves on the Boards of The After School Corporation and United Way.

 

Dr. Price, a visionary academic leader and administrator, joined the Board in 2002. Szygenda, a technology industry veteran and former chief information officer at several large companies, including GM, joined the Board in 2009.

Fleetmatics Appoints Shred-it CEO to Board

Fleet management solutions company Fleetmatics appointed Shred-it President and CEO, Vincent De Palma, to its Board. His experience managing a global company for which fleet and service worker optimization is an operational imperative makes him a natural fit for the Fleetmatics Board. Prior to Shred-it, De Palma was President at Pitney Bowes Management Services and EVP, Pitney Bowes; President of Benefit Services and Corporate VP at ADP. He has also held senior management positions at Petroleum Heat & Power Company and McKinsey & Company.
