Skype CFO Leaves
Bill Koefoed leaves Skype to take a job as CFO of Puppet Labs. Most recently, he was working as CFO in the Skype and then in the marketing and business development unit. His earlier positions include General Manager, Investor Relations; General Manager/CFO, IT Finance and Strategy at Microsoft; Senior Director, Strategy & Planning at Hewlett-Packard, Managing Director, PwC Consulting at PwC.
Disney Interactive Division Goes Through Re-Organization
Disney Interactive co-president John Pleasants is leaving his post and co-president Jimmy Pitaro will take control of the division with the added responsibilities of its games and media groups. The two were named co-presidents together in 2010; Pitaro had been VP of media at Yahoo!, while Pleasants moved up from Disney’s Playdom unit. Their responsibilities included online, social media, mobile and other digital properties.
eBay Design Advisory Board Chair
John Maeda, the former MIT professor who is a director on the boards of Sonos and Quirky, is leaving his job as president at the prestigious Rhode Island School of Design to take a role at eBay to lead the company’s newly-created Design Advisory Board as chair. In that role, Maeda will work with teams across eBay’s Marketplace and enterprise business teams, as well as the PayPal unit. Maeda took the job as president of RISD in 2008. Prior to that, he taught at MIT for 12 years and served as the associate director of research at the MIT Media Lab. He also sits on the board of global advertising firm Wieden+Kennedy.
Yahoo’s Head of Video Joins Maker Studios
Maker Studios has secured a major hire by adding Erin McPherson, who previously served as the Head of Video at Yahoo, and has joined the multi-channel networks as its Chief Content Officer. At Yahoo, she helped turn Yahoo Screen into an award-winning online video platform serving millions of viewers. She oversaw the launch of programs like Burning Love, Cybergeddon, and Ghost Ghirls while also securing distribution deals with the likes of Saturday Night Live.
Twitter Adds First Female Director to Board
Twitter has appointed its first female director, former publishing executive Marjorie Scardino, 66. Scardino was CEO of London-based Pearson, a publishing and education company, from 1997 to 2012. From 1985 to 1997 she served in several roles, including CEO, at The Economist Group, a media company.
Longtime AOL Exec Headed Out
President of AOL Ventures and Co-Founder of Patch Jon Brod leaves AOL. He joined AOL in 2009 through the company's acquisition of community news and information site Patch, which he co-founded and served as CEO. Prior to that, he served as President and COO of Polar Capital Group; SVP and General Manager of the Portals Division of InterActiveCorp (IAC); SVP and a member of the Executive Committee at Ask Jeeves, and was the first employee and SVP of Operations for Interactive Search Holdings, which was purchased by Ask Jeeves in 2004.
AOL names Joe Strolz, formerly VP, Advertising at Microsoft Canada, as general manager, AOL Canada, to succeed Graham Moysey, who is relocating to England, as SVP & head of International, AOL. Strolz has also held positions at some of Canada's largest digital publishers, including at Canwest Media (now Postmedia) and Bell Canada.
