Lloyds Banking Group Appoints New Group CIO
Lloyds Banking Group has appointed David Oldfield as new CIO. Oldfield, previously managing director of SME and mid-markets banking, is stepping up to join the group’s operations board tomorrow as group CIO and deputy director of group operations. Oldfield joined Lloyds Bank in 1984 on a graduate entry scheme and has held a number of leadership roles in the company. His experience shows no sign of specific IT management skill, suggesting his promotion reflects the trend for some firms to seek more business experience in their senior IT leadership roles.
He replaces Darryl West who has left Lloyds.
Walgreens Appoints eCommerce Lead as President of Digital
Walgreens appoints Sona Chawla, President of e-commerce, as President of Digital and CMO. Chawla joined Walgreens in 2008 as SVP of e-commerce and was promoted to her current position in early 2011. Prior, she was VP of global online business at Dell, and worked at Wells Fargo's Internet Services Group, where she held several roles and left the company as EVP of online sales, service and marketing. Prior to Wells Fargo, Chawla worked for Andersen Consulting (now Accenture) and Mitchell Madison Group.
Deutsche Bank Appoints Boeing CIO
Deutsche Bank appoints Kim Hammonds as CIO and Global Co-Head of Group Technology & Operations. Anthony McCarthy, who currently holds these roles, has decided to leave Deutsche Bank to pursue other career opportunities but has agreed to be available for a transitional period to advise the Bank.
Hammonds joins from Boeing, where she was CIO. Hammonds was recognized as a Top 100 Premier IT leader in 2012 by Computerworld and the previous year received an Information Week 500 top manufacturing innovator award. Her professional career also includes stints at Dell and Ford Motor Company.
Pearson Appoints CIO from Vodafone
Pearson, the world’s leading learning company, appoints Albert Hitchcock as CIO. He joins from Vodafone where he was CIO for the Vodafone Group. In a 28 year career in the technology industry, he has also worked and previously held leadership roles at BAE Systems, Racal Electronics and Nortel Networks where he was also CIO.
Staples Appoints CIO from InterContinental Hotels Group
Tom Conophy has been appointed EVP, CIO at Staples. Most recently, Conophy served as EVP and CIO for InterContinental Hotels Group, where he was responsible for all technology solutions across their global organization. He previously played a similar role for Starwood Hotels & Resorts International. Conophy was also the chief architect for SABRE and held leadership positions at United Airlines.
Splunk Names Former Continuuity CEO as CTO
Splunk, the leading provider of operational intelligence software used to monitor, report and analyze real-time machine data as well, has appointed Todd Papaioannou as CTO. Splunk co-founder and former CTO Erik Swan will remain at Splunk as a senior advisor to the executive team. Papaioannou joins Splunk from Data Collective Venture Capital (DCVC), a venture capital firm where he was an entrepreneur-in-residence.
Prior to DCVC, he was co-founder and CEO of Continuuity, an early stage big data startup. Papaioannou also worked at Yahoo! serving as VP, chief cloud architect and distinguished fellow, spent five years at Teradata, holding positions including CTO of client software and VP, architecture and emerging technologies, and was chief architect and director of engineering at Greenplum.
MICROS Systems Hires CIO to Lead Global Hosting & SaaS
POS sales software company MICROS Systems appointed Jay Upchurch as CIO & SVP of Global Hosting & SaaS. Most recently, he served with AT&T, where he led worldwide teams in hosting, cloud and applications services. Prior to joining AT&T in 2006 (in connection with AT&T's acquisition of USInternetworking), he held executive positions at USInternetworking and Interpath Communications.
United States Steel Corporation Sees CIO Replacement
United States Steel Corporation appoints Charles G. Balawajder, 57, to the position of VP and CIO. He succeeds David H. Lohr, who retired from the company. Balawajder previously served as VP, IT and CIO at UTC Climate, Controls, and Security (CCS), a division of United Technologies Corporation. Prior to joining UTC, Balawajder was with GE in their Lighting and Capital groups, respectively, where he served in a series of IT leadership positions.
Ingram Micro Appoints 3M CIO
Ingram Micro appoints Ernest (Ernie) Park as Senior EVP and CIO. He replaces Mario Leone, who left the company earlier this year. Nimesh Dave, who had assumed responsibility and oversight of the company's worldwide information and business systems during the search for a new CIO, continues his focus on driving productivity and efficiency across the business, while helping to position Ingram Micro in the Cloud, in his role as Ingram Micro EVP, global business process and cloud computing.
Park most recently was VP, CIO of 3M which he joined in 2008. Earlier, he served as SVP and CIO at Select Comfort, SVP and CIO at Maytag, VP and CIO of Global Business Services at AlliedSignal, and later with Honeywell. Park also served in various capacities at Avnet, culminating in his role as Corporate VP, Technology Services.
Intrexon appoints new VP and CIO
Intrexon, a synthetic biology company, has appointed Dana Di Ferdinando as CIO. Most recently, she was CIO at Arena Pharmaceuticals, where she managed IT functions and oversaw enterprise business technology initiatives and application development efforts at Arena's US, European and Asian locations. Prior to Arena, Di Ferdinando worked for major consulting and analytics companies Deloitte and Science Applications International Corporation (SAIC).
