Equinix Appoints Americas Head and CHRO

IBX data center & colocation provider Equinix appoints Karl Strohmeyer as President of the Americas, responsible for the management, strategy and growth plan for Equinix in the Americas, with P&L accountability for the region. Strohmeyer joins Equinix from Level 3 Communications, serving there for twelve years, most recently being the group VP for the North American enterprise group. Prior to Level 3, he worked at NetRail, most recently as EVP for corporate development, helping manage the sale of the company. Before joining NetRail, he held various positions with BellSouth including business development manager.

 

Equinix also appoints Debra McCowan as CHRO. McCowan joins Equinix from the Accelerance Group, where she was co-founder and partner. Prior to that, McCowan was the VP of Worldwide Human Resources at Avago Technologies.

Savvis Appoints APAC Head

CenturyLink’s cloud infrastructure subsidiary Savvis appointed Gery Messer as managing director for its Asia Pacific operations. Based in Singapore, Messer will lead strategic expansion initiatives in the region with focus on growing the global and enterprise business throughout Asia Pacific. Messer joins Savvis from NGA, where he was responsible for all aspects of the company's Asia Pacific, Middle East and Africa operations, including sales, marketing, research and development, and customer service. His nearly 30 years of international experience in technology and consulting organisations also includes leadership roles with Red Hat, EMC, Deloitte, SAP and IBM.

Akamai Names Former Alcatel-Lucent CEO to Board

Akamai Technologies elects Bernardus (Ben) Verwaayen, former telecom executive, to its Board of Directors. Verwaayen was CEO of Alcatel-Lucent from 2008 to 2013. His leadership roles in the telecommunications space span more than 37 years. Verwaayen has held numerous executive positions at leading telecom and technology providers including having served as CEO of BT; international VP, EVP and COO of Lucent Technologies; and as president and general manager of PTT Telecom, a KPN subsidiary in the Netherlands. Verwaayen has been made an officer of the Orange Order-Nassau and an Honorary Knight of the British Empire (KBE).

 

Rackspace Hosting Elects Director with Wide-Ranging Industry Insight

Rackspace Hosting, the leader in hybrid cloud, appoints Ossa Fisher to its Board of Directors. Fisher is SVP for strategy and analytics at global dating leader, Match.com, where she has built a reputation for wide-ranging industry insight, marketing analytics, and product development. Fisher has a broad range of expertise in technology and media, including more than 10 years in the Technology, Media and Telecom practices of both Bain & Company and Goldman, Sachs & Co. Fisher also worked for the World Bank Group in the IT investment division.

 

ServiceSource Appoints BD Leader to Expand Market Presence

The Renew OnDemand cloud app firm ServiceSource appoints Bart Schachter as SVP of Corporate BD. In this newly created role, Schachter will be responsible for driving ServiceSource's corporate growth strategy, investments and acquisitions as the company expands its market presence as a leading provider of recurring revenue management solutions. Prior to joining ServiceSource, Schachter was VP of Corporate BD at National Semiconductor until its sale to Texas Instruments. Earlier, he was a founder and managing director of Blueprint Ventures, and also spent eight years at Intel where he led several enterprise product groups and later spearheaded Intel Capital's earliest investments and acquisitions.

Wipro Exec Joins as Global Head of Dell Services' Infrastructure and Cloud Computing Biz

Dell appoints Anand Sankaran, a 25-year industry leader, as President and Global Head of Dell Services' Infrastructure and Cloud Computing line of business. He was formerly SVP of Wipro's Global Infrastructure Services business as well as head of Wipro Infotech, its India and Middle East business. He previously held a variety of Wipro management positions after joining the company in 1989. He succeeds Kevin Jones, who moved into the recently created chief customer and sales officer role within Dell Services.

Dora Vell

Dora Vell is the Managing Partner of Vell Executive Search, a boutique executive search firm in Boston focused on recruiting technology executives and board members. Vell has successfully completed numerous board member and C-level executive searches, including CEOs, COOs, CIOs, and Vice Presidents - at both public and private companies.

Prior to founding the firm in 2005, Vell was a Partner at Heidrick & Struggles' Technology practice for seven years.  Before her career in executive search, she worked at IBM for 11 years, managing software engineering organizations of 100 people and software sales organizations with revenues of $150 million. She has also served as an executive assistant to the CEO of IBM Canada for one year.

Vell is a member of the National Association of Corporate Directors (NACD), the Boston CEO Roundtable. She has served on the boards of Framingham State, Entrepreneur's Organization, Goodwill, Mary Centre for developmentally handicapped adults, garage.ca, and RBC Capital Partners.

She has received an MBA from the University of Toronto, a Master in Computer Science from the University of Waterloo, and a Bachelor in Computer Science from Carleton. She has also completed the MIT Entrepreneurial Master’s program.
