Merge Healthcare Chair Steps Down; New Chair Appointed

Merge Healthcare, the developer of software solutions that facilitate the sharing of images to create an electronic healthcare experience for patients and physicians, accepted the resignation of Michael W. Ferro, Jr. as Chairman and a Director of the Company and appointed Dennis Brown as the Company's new Chairman. Ferro served as Merge's Chairman and a Director since 2008, when Merrick RIS made a significant investment in the Company.

Former Johns Hopkins IT Executive Joins Voalte

Voalte, the leader in clinical communication technology, hired Kenda West, an expert in health IT and strategic business development, as the company’s new COO. West comes to Voalte from Johns Hopkins Medicine, where she had strategic and operating IT responsibility as CIO for the Community Division. West also held IT leadership positions at MedStar Health in Washington, D.C., and Peninsula Regional Medical Center in Salisbury, Maryland. Prior to those positions, she was Director of Corporate Strategic Planning and Business Development at McKesson. West was also a Consulting Associate with Booz Allen & Hamilton, Washington, D.C., where she supported government healthcare initiatives.

AT&T Health IT Exec Named CMIO of PatientPoint

Dr. Geeta Nayyar, former chief medical information officer at AT&T, has been named CMIO at PatientPoint, a vendor of patient and physician engagement tools. Prior to joining AT&T, Dr. Nayyar served as the Principal Medical Officer at Vangent. Earlier, she also served as the Chief Medical Officer of APCO Worldwide, a public affairs and strategic communications firm.

Shareable Ink Appoints CFO from Pharmacy Technology Company Baxa

Dave Runck, former CFO at Baxa, a pharmacy technology company, has been named CFO at Shareable Ink, a provider of cloud computing and clinical documentation tools. He has over 28 years of corporate financial and strategic planning experience with medical device organizations. During his tenure with Baxa, he orchestrated a strategic option process which resulted in an equity backing of Goldman Sachs and then was instrumental in the company's sale to Baxter Healthcare (a $12B company) in late 2011.

Accretive Health Appoints New CFO

Accretive Health, a vendor of revenue cycle management technology, appointed Sean F. Orr as its new CFO and treasurer. John Staton, who has served in those positions since 2005, has taken the position of SVP, provider business solutions, with the company. Previously, Orr served as SVP and CFO at Maxum Petroleum, an energy logistics company that markets and distributes refined petroleum products to commercial and industrial customers. Orr has also served as president and CFO at Dale and Thomas Popcorn, a consumer snack food business; EVP and CFO of The Interpublic Group of Companies, a parent of global advertising and public relations firms; SVP and controller at PepsiCo and EVP and CFO of its Frito-Lay division; and as an audit partner at KPMG.

Provider of Online and Mobile Clinical Resources and Tools Appoints Chair and Vice-Chair

Donato Tramuto, CEO of Physicians Interactive Holdings, a provider of online and mobile clinical resources and tools, has been appointed chair of the company's board. He was previously CEO of i3, a global pharmaceutical services company, formerly part of Ingenix (a UnitedHealthGroup Company), and was one of the founders of Protocare, a large provider of drug development and disease management services, where he served as CEO and President of the Protocare Sciences Division and Corporate Officer of Protocare from 1998 to 2003.  Prior to co-founding Protocare, he was Corporate VP of Marketing/Healthcare at Caremark.

Michigan Health Information Network Shared Services Appoints New Board Member

Thomas Simmer, SVP and chief medical officer at Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan, has been appointed to the board of directors at Michigan Health Information Network Shared Services. Prior to joining Blue Cross Blue Shield, Simmer was VP of health and medical affairs and medical director for Health Alliance Plan.

GetWellNetwork Appoints Chief Clinical/Nursing Officer

Karen Drenkard, former executive director at the American Nurses Credentialing Center, has been named chief clinical/nursing officer at GetWellNetwork, a provider of interactive patient care tools.

MedData Appoints President as CEO 

Ann Barnes, former president of MedData, a revenue-cycle management provider, has been named CEO of the company. Barnes initially joined MedData as VP of client services in 2008. In 2009, she was promoted to the post of COO, and in early 2013 to president. Before joining MedData, Barnes was EVP for the student loan division of Wachovia Bank. Previously, she led a national sales force for New Horizons Computer Learning, and held various leadership roles with Avolent and Xerox.

Dora Vell

Dora Vell is the Managing Partner of Vell Executive Search, a boutique executive search firm in Boston focused on recruiting technology executives and board members. Vell has successfully completed numerous board member and C-level executive searches, including CEOs, COOs, CIOs, and Vice Presidents - at both public and private companies.

Prior to founding the firm in 2005, Vell was a Partner at Heidrick & Struggles' Technology practice for seven years.  Before her career in executive search, she worked at IBM for 11 years, managing software engineering organizations of 100 people and software sales organizations with revenues of $150 million. She has also served as an executive assistant to the CEO of IBM Canada for one year.

Vell holds seven worldwide software patents. Vell is a member of the National Association of Corporate Directors (NACD), the Boston CEO Roundtable. She has served on the boards of Framingham State, Entrepreneur's Organization, Goodwill, Mary Centre for developmentally handicapped adults, garage.ca, and RBC Capital Partners.

She has received an MBA from the University of Toronto, a Master in Computer Science from the University of Waterloo, and a Bachelor in Computer Science from Carleton. She has also completed the MIT Entrepreneurial Master’s program.
