Symantec Adds New Leaders to Senior Executive Team

Symantec has recently appointed new members to its senior executive team who bring in deep expertise in areas spanning security, cloud, end-user sensibility and customer experience. New Chief Marketing Officer Manny Kostas joins from Polycom, where he led the Worldwide Product and Program Management organization, after more than two decades in senior leadership roles with HP. In his role as SVP of marketing and strategy for HP, Manny led their printing and web services business with market leadership in every category.

Colleen Lacter has been appointed Chief Communications Officer. She will be responsible for enhancing corporate reputation, product awareness and thought leadership equity by influencing stakeholder perceptions. Lacter left Waggener Edstrom, Microsoft’s agency of record, where she served as a member of the executive leadership team and launched many key products, including Windows 95, Internet Explorer, MSN and Bing.

Julie Talbot-Hubbard, Chief Security Officer will help establish and drive strategy for maintaining information security, business resiliency and physical security programs to ensure that the resources, infrastructure and assets are properly protected – with the company’s products. She was most recently the chief information security officer for The Ohio State University. She was a Symantec customer at Cardinal Health and Bank One/JP Morgan Chase and has deep firsthand knowledge about implementing and using the company’s products.

Matt Lynch, Senior Vice President of eBusiness is responsible for shifting and broadening Symantec’s online experience with customers, prospects and partners as the company makes the transition from eCommerce into eBusiness. He was most recently COO at IMDb.com, an Amazon.com subsidiary. Matt has held other management positions at Amazon.com, as well as at Microsoft and General Mills.

Stephen McHenry, Senior Vice President of Cloud Platform Engineering will be responsible for building Symantec’s global cloud infrastructure and offerings, including the scalable cloud infrastructure strategy. He has held titles of CIO and CTO as well as engineering chancellor at Google. His responsibilities at Google included leading the security engineering teams responsible for ensuring the 24/7 operations of 42 different infrastructure services. Prior to Google, he also held roles at Silverturn Internet, Netflix and Emasys.

Dora Vell is the Managing Partner of Vell Executive Search, a boutique executive search firm in Boston focused on recruiting technology executives and board members. Prior to founding the firm in 2005, Vell was a Partner at Heidrick & Struggles' Technology practice for seven years.  Before her career in executive search, she worked at IBM for 11 years, managing software engineering organizations of 100 people and software sales organizations with revenues of $150 million. She has also served as an executive assistant to the CEO of IBM Canada for one year.

Vell holds seven worldwide software patents. She has published several Business of Leadership reports on governance and leadership and has been quoted in numerous articles including The Wall Street Journal, Forbes, Business Week, Fortune, Agenda Week, MSNBC, Mass High Tech, the OPUS for the World Economic Forum, Boston Business Journal, The Globe & Mail, CIO Magazine, and IEEE. She also has been a featured speaker on leadership at numerous conferences and at Columbia University's MBA program.

Vell is a member of the National Association of Corporate Directors (NACD), the Boston CEO Roundtable. She has served on the boards of Framingham State, Entrepreneur's Organization, Goodwill, Mary Centre for developmentally handicapped adults, garage.ca, and RBC Capital Partners.

She has received an MBA from the University of Toronto, a Master in Computer Science from the University of Waterloo, and a Bachelor in Computer Science from Carleton. She has also completed the MIT Entrepreneurial Master’s program.
