Duke Energy Appoints Lead Director as New Chairman

Duke Energy's board of directors has unanimously elected lead director Ann Maynard Gray, 67, as its new Chair. Gray has been lead director since 2004 and a board member at Duke Energy or its predecessor companies since 1994. She is also a board member at The Phoenix Companies and has served on the boards of several other New York Stock Exchange companies. Gray was president of Diversified Publishing Group of ABC, a television, radio and publishing company, and prior to that held several senior financial positions at ABC. Gray will serve as lead director and chair-elect till late 2013, to ensure a smooth management transition.

T. Rowe Price Group Adds Politician and Former Senator as Independent Director

T. Rowe Price Group elected former United States Senator Olympia J. Snowe, 66, to be an independent director of the company. Snowe served in the U.S. Senate from 1995-2013, and as a member of the U.S. House of Representatives from 1979-1995. She is currently chairman and CEO of Olympia Snowe, a policy and communications consulting firm, and a senior fellow at the Bipartisan Policy Center, where she serves on its board of directors and co-chairs its Commission on Political Reform. During her career in the Senate she served as chair and then ranking member of the Senate Committee on Small Business and Entrepreneurship, and as a member of the Senate Finance, Commerce, and Intelligence Committees. She also serves on the National Advisory Board of the National Institute for Civil Discourse, and is a member of the Campaign to Fix the Debt's bipartisan Congressional Fiscal Leadership Council.

Sempra Energy Appoints Retired Goldman Sachs Exec and California State Treasurer as New Board Member

Sempra Energy appointed Kathleen L. Brown, 66, to the company's board of directors. Brown's experience includes 18 years as a senior executive in the financial sector and 16 years of service in the public sector, including a term as California's state treasurer. Prior to joining Sempra Energy's board, Brown worked 12 years in leadership positions at Goldman Sachs Group. From 2011 to 2013, she served as the chairman of investment banking for the firm's Midwest division in Chicago. She was managing director and head of the firm's Los Angeles-based western region public sector and infrastructure group from 2003 to 2011. Brown retired from Goldman Sachs this year. From 1995 to 2001, she served in several senior positions with Bank of America, California state treasurer from 1991 to 1995, and co-chaired President Clinton's Commission on Capital Budgeting and the Council of Institutional Investors. She was the Democratic nominee for governor of California in 1994. From 1987 to 1989, she served as a commissioner on Los Angeles' Board of Public Works and was elected twice to the Los Angeles Unified School District's Board of Education.

Green Mountain Coffee Roasters Investment Banking Exec to Board

Specialty coffee maker Green Mountain Coffee Roasters added Susan Saltzbart Kilsby, 54, to board. Kilsby has served as a part-time Senior Advisor to Credit Suisse Group AG since 2009. During her more than 30 years at Credit Suisse, she served as Chairman of Mergers and Acquisitions, EMEA and Vice Chairman of the European Investment Banking Committee, and also led the European Consumer, Retail & Services Investment Banking Group. Her career in global investment banking also includes senior positions with Barclays de Zoete Wedd, Bankers Trust and The First Boston Corporation. Kilsby is currently a Member of the Boards of BBA Aviation, Coca-Cola HBC and Shire. She serves as the International Regional Chair of the Committee of 200 and was a founding Member of the Competitor Diversity Forum.

UPS’ Senior Legal Exec Joins Lennar’s board

Homebuilder Lennar’s board of directors elected Teri McClure, 49, general counsel, corporate secretary, and management committee member of UPS, to the board. McClure also serves as the UPS SVP of Legal, Compliance, Audit, and Public Affairs. McClure joined UPS in 1995 and has served in various positions at the company including VP of the Corporate Legal Department where she was responsible for labor and employment matters as well as legal department technology and administration. In addition, she has served as President of the Central Florida District where she was in charge of more than four thousand employees as Compliance Department Manager where she worked to ensure that the company followed ethical and legal business practices, and in special assignments in logistics and distribution. Prior to joining UPS, McClure practiced with the Troutman Sanders law firm in Atlanta.

Recognized Securities Industry Expert Joins Board of Catalyst Paper Corporation

Mechanical printing papers company Catalyst Paper Corporation appointed Jill Leversage, 56, to board. Leversage is a chartered accountant with more than 25 years of experience in investment banking and M&A advisory services, particularly in the forest and manufacturing industries. Leversage is chair of the British Columbia Innovation Council, a director and chair of the audit committee of Eagle Star Minerals and a director of Delta Gold Corporation. Active on numerous community boards, she received a Business in Vancouver Influential Women in Business Award in 2012 and an Honorary Doctorate from BCIT in June 2013. She is the Managing Director of Vancouver-based merchant bank Highland West Capital. She served as Managing Director of Investment Banking at TD Securities, and VP and Director and Managing Director of the Vancouver market for RBC Capital Markets.

Seasoned Financial Services Exec Joins PartnerRe Board

Leading international reinsurance group PartnerRe named Debra J Perry, 62, to its Board of Directors. Perry has been a Principal of Perry Consulting, since 2008. She has served on the boards of three NYSE listed companies and two mutual fund companies and is currently serving on the board of Korn/Ferry International. Perry has also served as a trustee and advisory board member in the public policy and higher education arenas. In her 30-year business career, she has held a number of senior roles in the financial services sector including serving as a senior executive at Moody's Corporation and research and management positions with First Boston Corporation and Chemical Bank.

Qualcomm Exec Joins Live Nation’s Board

Live Nation Entertainment announced that its Board of Directors has appointed Peggy Johnson to the Board as a new independent director. Johnson currently serves as EVP of Qualcomm Technologies and President of Global Market Development. In her current role at Qualcomm Technologies, she is responsible for commercializing new business and developing strategic relationships. She also serves as the Chairwoman of the Board of Directors of Qualcomm Labs,, an incubator organization that focuses on launching new businesses and products and exploring new region segments. With a technology career that spans more than two decades, she has held roles in nearly every facet of Qualcomm's operations. She began as a software engineer in the company's wireless solution group, and later held senior-level positions in technology, business development and sales. Most notably, under Johnson's leadership, Qualcomm developed and commercially launched BREW (Binary Runtime Environment for Wireless), the world's first large-scale mobile app store, which inspired the growth of a global ecosphere that has generated more than $3 billion in revenues to date.

Sterling Financial Corporation Appoints New Board Members

Sterling Financial Corporation appointed Paula E. Boggs and Maria M. Pope to board. Boggs is the founder and member of Boggs Media, LLC, a business that manages her music, speaking and other creative business activities. She served as EVP, general counsel and secretary, law and corporate affairs at Starbucks Corporation from 2002 to 2012. Her prior professional experience includes serving as VP, legal, for products, operations and technology at Dell Computer Corporation and as a partner at the law firm of Preston Gates & Ellis. She also had a 14-year career in public service, including serving as an assistant U.S. attorney and in various capacities as an attorney for the U.S. Army, the Department of Defense and the White House Office of Legal Counsel. Boggs currently serves as a director of School of Rock, and as a trustee at Johns Hopkins University.

Maria M. Pope has also been appointed to Sterling’s board of directors. Pope has served as SVP of power supply, operations, and resource strategy of Portland General Electric Company, a publicly traded, integrated electric utility company, since March 2013. Prior to that, she served as the CFO of PGE from 2009 until 2013 and served on its board from 2006 until her appointment as CFO in 2009. Her previous professional experience includes serving as CFO of Mentor Graphics Corporation, as CFO and in other executive roles for Pope & Talbot. Pope currently serves as a director of Pope Resources and served as a director of TimberWest until 2013.
