Intuit CEO Joins Nordstrom’s Board
Nordstrom announced the appointment of Brad Smith, Intuit’s president and CEO, to the company's Board of Directors. Smith was named president and CEO of Intuit in January 2008, culminating a five-year rise through the company where he successfully led several of its major businesses. Today, Intuit simplifies the business of life for more than 60 million consumers, small businesses, financial institutions and accounting professionals around the world. Under Smith's leadership, Intuit has a renewed startup mentality, despite being a 30-year-old Silicon Valley company. That mindset, combined with the ability to reinvent and transform itself along the way, has helped establish Intuit as an innovative company with more than $4 billion in annual revenue and 8,500 employees around the world. Before joining Intuit, Smith served in a variety of sales, marketing and management roles with ADP, PepsiCo, Seven-Up and Advo. He is also a former director of Yahoo!.
Verizon Exec Joins Harman’s Board
Audio products and electronic systems company Harman International Industries announced that John W. Diercksen has been appointed to the Company's Board of Directors. Mr. Diercksen is currently the EVP at Verizon Communications, a leading provider of telecommunications and broadband services, with revenues of over $100 billion. At Verizon, Mr. Diercksen holds responsibility for key strategic initiatives related to the review and assessment of potential mergers, acquisitions and divestitures. From 2003 to 2012, Mr. Diercksen was EVP, Strategy, Development, and Planning for Verizon. In this capacity he was instrumental in forging Verizon's strategy of technology investment and repositioning its assets through the acquisition of spectrum including the cable spectrum transaction; the merger with MCI; the Alltel acquisition; the restructuring of international units; the spinoff of Verizon's directories unit and landline assets, and the Terremark and Cloud Switch acquisitions. Earlier in his career, Mr. Diercksen held a series of increasingly senior financial and leadership roles with Verizon, Bell Atlantic, and Nynex, among others. He earned his MBA from Pace University and his Bachelor of Business Administration in finance from Iona College.
Former Chrysler Financial Expert with strong IT chops Joins Board of The Babcock & Wilcox Company
The Babcock & Wilcox Company announced that Jan A. Bertsch has been appointed to its Board of Directors, increasing its total number of Directors to 11. Bertsch is EVP and CFO of Sigma-Aldrich, a leading life science and high technology company. Prior to that, Bertsch worked for automobile parts supplier BorgWarner, most recently serving as the company's VP, Controller and Principal Accounting Officer. She served as Chief Information Officer and VP of Information Technology Management Organization for Old Carco (formerly, Chrysler). She also served as SVP and Treasurer of Old Carco. She served as a Treasurer of Shanghai for all operations for three years. She served as SVP, Treasurer and Chief Information Officer for Chrysler Group. She served as VP and Chief Information Officer of Daimler Chrysler's Chrysler Group and Mercedes Benz NAFTA organizations and Chrysler. She joined Daimler AG (formerly DaimlerChrysler) in 2001 as VP of Finance for Chrysler Group's Global Sales and Marketing Finance until April 2006. She spent 22 years with Ford Motor Company and Visteon Corporation, where she held numerous positions, including Assistant Treasurer of Ford Motor Company and Treasurer of Visteon Corporation. Ms. Bertsch was responsible for directing Chrysler's worldwide systems and computer hardware strategy, systems applications development, data center operations and telecommunications network operations. Her experience includes financial reporting, treasury and capital markets activity, investor relations, M&A, head of global IT and serving as a strategic partner in the various businesses. She serves as a Director of Vista Maria. Bertsch holds a number of board positions with non-profit organizations, including Wayne State University School of Medicine, the Chrysler Women's Forum, among others.
Qualcomm Exec Joins Live Nation’s Board
Live Nation Entertainment announced that its Board of Directors has appointed Peggy Johnson to the Board as a new independent director. Johnson currently serves as EVP of Qualcomm Technologies and President of Global Market Development. In her current role at Qualcomm Technologies, she is responsible for commercializing new business and developing strategic relationships. She also serves as the Chairwoman of the Board of Directors of Qualcomm Labs,, an incubator organization that focuses on launching new businesses and products and exploring new region segments. With a technology career that spans more than two decades, she has held roles in nearly every facet of Qualcomm's operations. She began as a software engineer in the company's wireless solution group, and later held senior-level positions in technology, business development and sales. Most notably, under Johnson's leadership, Qualcomm developed and commercially launched BREW (Binary Runtime Environment for Wireless), the world's first large-scale mobile app store, which inspired the growth of a global ecosphere that has generated more than $3 billion in revenues to date.
Sterling Financial Corporation Appoints Former Dell Exec to Board
Sterling Financial Corporation announced that Paula E. Boggs has been appointed to Sterling’s board of directors. Boggs is the founder and member of Boggs Media, LLC, a business that manages her music, speaking and other creative business activities. She served as EVP, general counsel and secretary, law and corporate affairs at Starbucks Corporation from 2002 to 2012. Her prior professional experience includes serving as VP, legal, for products, operations and technology at Dell Computer Corporation and as a partner at the law firm of Preston Gates & Ellis. She also had a 14-year career in public service, including serving as an assistant U.S. attorney and in various capacities as an attorney for the U.S. Army, the Department of Defense and the White House Office of Legal Counsel. Boggs currently serves as a director of School of Rock, and as a trustee at Johns Hopkins University.
