Bank of America Names Ex-Deloitte Chairman and BAE Systems CEO to Board
Bank of America appointed former Chairman of Deloitte Sharon Allen, 60, and President and CEO of BAE Systems Linda Hudson, 62, to its Board of Directors. From 2003 to 2011, Allen served as chairman of Deloitte, the first female to serve in the position. In that role, she led the firm’s governance activities and oversight of strategy development and execution. She also directed the firm’s succession planning. She became a partner at the firm in 1983. She worked at Deloitte for nearly 40 years in various leadership roles and was previously responsible for the audit and consulting services for a number of Fortune 500 and large private companies.
Hudson, who was appointed in 2009 as President and CEO of BAE Systems, the U.S.-based subsidiary of BAE Systems PLC in London, is the first female executive to run a major U.S. defense company. She previously served as president of BAE Systems’ Land and Armaments operating group, the world’s largest military vehicle and equipment business. Prior to joining BAE Systems, she worked at General Dynamics and was president of its Armament and Technical Products business. In her 40-year career, she has held various positions in the defense and aerospace industry in engineering, production operations, program management and business development for such companies as Martin Marietta, Lockheed Martin, Ford Aerospace and Harris Corporation.
News Corporation’s New Director is Distinguished Government Official
The global media giant nominated former U.S. Secretary of Labor Elaine L. Chao, 59, to its Board. Ms. Chao served as the Secretary of Labor from 2001 to 2009. She has been a Distinguished Fellow at The Heritage Foundation, a research and educational organization based in Washington D.C., since 2009. Previously, she served as the President and CEO of United Way of America. Her prior government service includes serving as Director of the Peace Corps and as Deputy Secretary at the U.S. Department of Transportation. Before that she was a VP at Bank of America and a banker with Citicorp. She currently serves on the Boards of Wells Fargo & Company, Dole Food Company, and Protective Life Corporation and serves as a director of several nonprofit organizations including the Bloomberg Foundation.
EMC Hires Former CIA Director to Board
EMC named Jami Miscik, 54 to its Board. Ms. Miscik is President and Vice Chairman of Kissinger Associates and former Deputy Director for Intelligence at the United States Central Intelligence Agency (CIA). She joined Kissinger Associates in 2009, and has been a Senior Advisor on Geopolitical Risk to Barclays Capital since 2009. She was Global Head of Sovereign Risk at Lehman Brothers from 2005-2008 and served at the Central Intelligence Agency from 1983-2005, rising to become the Deputy Director for Intelligence. Ms. Miscik is a member of the President's Intelligence Advisory Board, a Director on the Council of Foreign Relations, Vice-Chairman of The American Ditchley Foundation, and a Trustee of In-Q-Tel.
BB&T Corporation Names Former Brew Mistress to Board
The BB&T Corporation appointed retired Miller Brewing Company veteran Patricia Henry, 55, to its Board. Henry served as Plant Manager for Miller’s Eden, NC Plant. She became the first woman to hold a lead management post at any major U.S. brewery. Before becoming the Plant Manager she held the position of brewmaster at the same brewery. She joined the company as a brewing supervisor in 1977. She started her career working as systems analyst for Dupont, GE, Ethyl, and Norfolk Southern Railroad after graduation.
American Electric Power New Director has Extensive Operational Experience in Manufacturing
American Electric Power appointed Sandra Beach Lin, 54, former President and CEO of Calisolar to its Board of Directors. She previously served as a corporate EVP at Celanese a global hybrid chemical company, and was group VP of Specialty Metals and Converting Worldwide, a business unit of Avery Dennison. Lin was President of Alcoa Closure Systems International and also held leadership positions at several divisions of AlliedSignal (now Honeywell), including service as President of Bendix Commercial Vehicle systems. Lin also has served in leadership roles at Smith & Nephew Perry, Crest Ultrasonics and American Cyanamid Co. She has been a member of the Board of Directors of WESCO International, an electrical products distribution company, since 2002.
Coach Appoints Former Google and eBay Exec to Board
The fine accessories retailer appointed Stephanie Tilenius, 43, of venture capital firm, Kleiner Perkins Caufield & Byers to its Board of Directors. Ms. Tilenius recently joined Kleiner Perkins Caufield & Byers as Executive-in-Residence, primarily focusing on companies within its Digital Growth Fund. Previously, she was an executive at Google, where she was VP of global commerce and payments overseeing digital commerce, product search and payments. Prior to joining Google, she was at eBay for nine years, ultimately as SVP of eBay.com and global product. She was also a co-founder of PlanetRx.com and has worked at other technology and business enterprises. She is on the Board of IronPlanet and Chair of the Advisory Board of the Harvard Business School California Research Center.

The medical technology company appointed Rebecca W. Rimel, 61, to its Board of Directors. She is President and CEO of The Pew Charitable Trusts, a public charity that applies a rigorous, analytical approach to improving public policy, informing the public and stimulating civic life. She has served in her current role since 1994, after serving as Executive Director and VP for Programs for The Pew Charitable Trusts. Her prior experience includes roles at The Glenmede Trust Company, an independent investment and wealth management firm. A registered nurse, she has more than a decade of experience at the University of Virginia Hospital, serving as Head Nurse - Emergency Department, Coordinator of Medical Out-Patient Facilities, and Assistant Professor, Instructor in Neurosurgery. In the nonprofit arena, she currently serves on the board of The Pew Charitable Trusts and the Washington College Board of Visitors and Governors. In the corporate arena, she serves on the boards of Deutsche Asset Management/DWS Funds and CardioNet, a publicly traded wireless medicine company.
Healthcare Products Company Appoints Seasoned Health Industry Professional as Board Member
Henry Schein appointed Carol Raphael to its Board of Directors. From 1989 to 2011, Ms. Raphael served as President and CEO of Visiting Nurse Service of New York (VNSNY), the nonprofit home health agency in the United States. The diversified specialty metals producer elected Carolyn Corvi, 60, to the Board of Directors. She retired from a thirty-four year career with The Boeing Company in 2008, where she had most recently served as VP, General Manager of Airplane Programs, Boeing Commercial Airplanes. Ms. Corvi currently is a director of United Continental Holdings, parent company to United Airlines, and is a former director of Goodrich Corporation.
