Facebook CTO leaving

The company’s CTO, Bret Taylor, 32, will be leaving the social network company for a start-up with Kevin Gibbs, founder and tech lead of the Google App Engine and creator of Google Suggest. Taylor joined Facebook in 2009 as Director of Platform Products via the acquisition of FriendFeed which he founded. He had previously worked at Google as Group Product Manager and has a strong start-up background.

Mike Vernal will now oversee the Facebook platform, while Cory Ondreijka will head up mobile. Vernal joined Facebook in 2008 from Microsoft, leading the original Facebook Connect project and also working on platform efforts and the development of Open Graph. Ondrejka arrived at the company in 2010 through the acquisition of Walletin. He previously worked at Linden Labs on Second Life virtual worlds.

HP names CIO for its Enterprise Service Division

Steve Bandrowczak, 57,  joins HP enterprise service division as CIO. Most recently he was VP and General Manager of Alliances at Avaya. Before Avaya, he held positions like SVP and CIO at Nortel, DHL and Avnet.

Former Motorola Executive Joins Citigroup after Google Acquisition

Citigroup hired former Motorola SVP, General Manager, Enterprise, Christy Wyatt, to lead its consumer and mobile efforts. Wyatt, who left Motorola as the Google acquisition closed, will lead the technology teams at Citi that handle the bank’s Web, mobile and ATM efforts. Before heading the enterprise unit at Motorola, she was Corporate VP-Software and Services Product Management, VP-Software Platforms and Ecosystems, VP-Ecosystem at Motorola; Director, WW Developer Relations at Apple; Sr Director, OS Licensing at Palm; Manager, BD, Telco and Wireless, JavaSoft at Sun Microsystems; Manager at ESRI Canada and Software Engineer at Ultimateast Data Communications.

CVS Caremark Appoints CIO from Avaya

The pharmacy health care provider appointed Stephen J. Gold, 53, to the position of CIO. Gold has more than 30 years of experience in designing and implementing large-scale technology initiatives in the PBM, eCommerce and retail industries. He joins CVS Caremark from Avaya, where he held the position of CIO. Prior to that, he served as the CIO and CTO for the eCommerce solutions provider GSI Commerce. Gold also served more than 12 years in various IT leadership positions with Merck & Companyand Medco Health Solutions.

Whirlpool CIO Joins Construction and Home Improvement Retailer

Lowe’s, named Kevin V. Summers, formerly CIO for Whirlpool Corporation, as CIO. Summers replaces Michael K. Brown who announced plans to retire in April as part of voluntary separation program. Kevin joined Whirlpool Corporation in 2007 from Coca-Cola where he served as the IT Regional Leader for Concentrate Product Supply Business and Executive Director, Global Supply Chain.  Prior to Coca-Cola, Kevin held senior IT leadership positions at BellSouth and General Electric.

BAE Creates CTO position

BAE Systems, the defense, aerospace and security company, appointed Tom Arseneault as EVP, Product Sectors, and CTO. Arseneault most recently served as President of Electronic Systems sector, one of the four sectors that comprise BAE Systems. As EVP, Product Sectors, he succeeds Bob Murphy, who departed in May. In the newly created role as CTO for BAE Systems, Arseneault will oversee research and development and the application of technology. Prior to being the President of Electronic Systems, he held positions like VP of Engineering for the unit and Director of Engineering for the unit's Electronic Protection business.

CTO Steps Down from Role in Semiconductor Company

NXP Semicondustor’s SVP & CTO Rene Penning de Vries, 58, decides to step down. Hans Rijns, SVP Research & Development, is taking over as interim CTO. Before joining NXP he served as VP, Technology of Systems at Silicon Manufacturing Company and Project Leader for the development of 0.8um at Philips Semiconductors. He started his career at Philips Research in 1984.

Former IBM and GSK software exec hired as CTO by Supply Chain Solutions Company

SciQuest, the supply chain solutions company, appointed Charles Irek as VP, Technology. Irek brings more than 20 years of experience in the software development industry to SciQuest. Before joining SciQuest, Irek was the CTO and VP of Software Engineering for Diagnosoft, a point-of-care healthcare analytics company. He also served as VP of software engineering for Proventys, where he was responsible for building and leading the company's software development capability. Earlier in his career, he was Sr. Development and Program Manager at GlaxoSmithKline and Sr. IT Architect and Development Manager at IBM.

Rosetta Stone Terminates CTO

Rosetta Stone, the language-learning software company, terminates it’s CTO Michael S. Fulkerson’s employment. Fulkerson, 44, previously served as SVP of Labs and Technology, VP of Labs and Technology and Senior Director of Software Development. Previously, he was a Technical Director for Serco, a provider of managerial and technological consulting services and a Technical Product Manager at iLOG. He started his career as a Surface Warfare Officer in the U.S. Navy.

Universal Music Group names long timer as CIO

Universal Music Group promoted SVP, Applications Group, Jens Kessler to CIO, responsible for all aspects of UMG's Global Information Technology (IT) division, managing the strategy, development and implementation of all country and regional IT systems. Before becoming SVP, Applications Group he was promoted to VP of IT, Supply Chain and Sourcing at Universal Music Group International's London headquarters. He began his career at UMG as VP of IT at Universal Music Germany.

Amtrak hires CIO from Recall

Rail Operator Amtrak named Jason D. Molfetas CIO. He will lead the rail service’s IT team, support customer service and business operations and improve financial performance. Molfetas joins as Amtrak introduces eTicketing on all trains and develops a new reservation system. Previously Molfetas served as CIO and SVP for Recall North America, the information management and logistics company. Molfetas has also held positions as CIO at Weston Group and Xerox, and VP, IT and Security at Pearson Publishing.

China-based Education Software company names CIO

Neologic Animation, the education software company, named Mr. Gencai Chen as CIO. He is a professor in the School of computer science in Zhejiang University since 1981. Mr. Chen has a varied field of expertise ranging from database management, data mining with specialization and knowledge in intelligence and information gathering techniques in computer science.

CTO Resigns from Wireless Network Infrastructure Company

Niels Jonker, 39, long time CTO of the wireless network infrastructure company Boingo Wireless, resigned from his position. Mr. Jonker has agreed to enter into a consulting agreement with the Company on an ongoing basis to provide strategic technology services to the Company. Prior to joining Boingo, he served as Chief Network Architect of EarthLink. Before that, he also served as Director, Systems and Aervices of OneMain, which was acquired by EarthLink. Prior to OneMain, he founded and built US Internet, a successful regional ISP servicing the south-eastern US. In addition, he is the co-author of A Guide to Operating Systems (Course Technologies).

PlayNetwork Taps Acquired Company Channel M’s Exec as CTO

PlayNetwork, provider of branded music solutions for retailers, has tapped Peter Lee, the former CEO and CTO of Channel M, as CTO. PlayNetwork – founded in 1996 as a provider of branded music solutions for retailers — bought Channel M in 2009. Lee previously served as the VP of Business Development, New Technology at The Walt Disney Company. His previous executive roles are as President & CEO at GeoVideo Networks, COO & CTO at MyPotential, CTO at HitPlay Media and Global Development Executive at IBM.

Ameristar Casinos promotes Corporate VP of IT and long-timer as CIO

Ameristar Casinos appointed Toni Pepper as CIO, reporting directly to Sheleen Quish, SVP of HR and IT.  Pepper has been with Ameristar for more than 15 years and was most recently the Corporate VP of IT. Before that she was Director in the Corporate IT Department, Director of IT at the Council Bluffs property, Information Systems Manager and Systems Analyst, joining as Senior Executive Assistant at the Vicksburg property in 1997.

Electrical and Automation Products Company names CTO

OneSource, distributor of electrical and automation products, promotes Director Information Systems, Jason Sarno as VP & CTO. In 2006, Sarno joined OneSource from Intuit as director of information systems.  Sarno has 15 years of experience in software development, IT, distribution software and electrical distribution. He began his distribution software development career as a senior software engineer at Eclipse, and ultimately held the title of Chief Architect at Eclipse.

AutoZone hires CIO from HP Enterprise

AutoZone hired HP executive Ron Griffin as SVP and CIO, Customer Satisfaction. At HP as SVP, Global Information Technology, he was the CIO of the Enterprise Services Division. Ron also spent 12 years with Home Depot, including eight as CIO, during a period of substantial growth. Ron will report to Bill Giles, CFO - EVP, Finance, IT & Store Development, Customer Satisfaction.

Quest Software CTO named CIO at Encore Capital

Encore Capital Group, the consumer debt buying and recovery company, named Carl Eberling as SVP, IT and CIO. Prior to joining Encore, Eberling served as GM and CTO at Quest Software. He has held executive and CIO positions with Kaiser Permanente and Verizon Wireless. He has broad experience leading strategic technology acquisitions and solutions development, and expertise in data security and performance management.
