Retired IBM Exec named Director at Energy Services Company

Public Service Enterprise Group elected Alfred Zollar, 57, to its Board. Mr. Zollar retired from IBM in 2011, after a 34-year executive career, during which he held leadership roles for all units within IBM's Software Group division. From 2004 to 2011, Mr. Zollar served as GM for the Tivoli Software unit. After leaving IBM, he founded AWZ Tech, a business advisory firm, and is currently the managing partner. He is currently a director of the Chubb Corporation.

News Media Company appoints Knowledgeable IT Industry Veterans and Investors to Board

The New York Times Company elected Joichi Ito, 46, and Brian McAndrews, 53, to its Board of Directors. Mr. Ito is the Director of the Media Lab at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, which is devoted to research projects at the convergence of design, multimedia and technology. He is Board Chairman and former CEO of Creative Commons, a nonprofit devoted to facilitating the ability of copyright owners to make their creative works freely available for others to use and share. He is also the founder and current CEO of Neoteny, a venture capital firm, and GM of Neoteny Labs, an early-stage investment fund focusing on Asia and the Middle East. In Japan, he was a co-founder of Digital Garage, an IT company. He was an early investor in numerous companies, including Flickr, Kickstarter and Twitter.

Brian McAndrews is a venture partner with Madrona Venture Group, a venture capital firm that funds innovative technology companies. Previously he was SVP, Advertiser and Publisher Solutions at Microsoft. He joined Microsoft after serving as President and CEO of aQuantive, a digital marketing company, which Microsoft acquired in 2007. Prior to that, he held positions of increasing responsibility at ABC, leaving as EVP and GM, ABC Sports.

PE Investor and former IBM Exec named to Educational Organization’s Board

American Public Education elected Eric C. "Ric" Andersen to its Board. Mr. Andersen is a partner with Milestone Partners, a lower middle market PE firm. Prior to joining Milestone Partners he served as a Managing Director of Silver Lake Partners, before which he worked at IBM Business Consulting Services (BCS), serving as Managing Partner, Asia Pacific responsible for IBM's business solutions and business process outsourcing business across Asia Pacific, and Managing Partner, Distribution Sector responsible for IBM's consulting business in the pharmaceutical, retail, consumer goods and travel/transportation industries. Before working with IBM, he was a senior partner at PWC.

Recognized IT Solutions Expert appointed Director at Smart Grid Technology Company

GridSense, the smart grid technology company under Acorn Energy, named Alain P. Steven to its Board. Steven, an internationally recognized expert in development of large scale real-time IT solutions for the electric power industry, is Co-Founder and EVP for Viridity Energy, which provides customized demand-side management and optimization solutions to large energy users. He is also Secretary General of the Very Large Power Grid Operators (VLPGO) Association, a non-profit organization that includes 16 of the world's largest power grid operators. He was CTO at the PJM Interconnection and President of PJM Technologies. Prior to that, he was CEO of Alstom ESCA Corporation, a leading supplier of market management, energy management, distribution management and SCADA systems, and held senior management positions at ABB and Combustion Engineering.  At Combustion Engineering, he founded the Power Automation Simulation Division and served as VP and GM. Following the acquisition of Combustion Engineering by ABB, Steven headed ABB’s worldwide simulation business, specialized in the manufacturing of power plant training simulators.

Technology Start Up Specialist Appointed to Health Enhancement Products’ Board

Brian Young, 49, was appointed to the Board of Arizona-based algae producer Health Enhancement Products. Mr. Young is a technology start up specialist with over 20 years of experience. He has a solid track record of successful technology ventures and is a specialist in accelerating the growth of early stage companies. Mr. Young founded MuniCommerce, a global transaction services provider; Hampton Technology Ventures, an early stage technology investor and Thor Technologies, a leading access rights management provider. At Thor Technologies, he led the company through three rounds of venture capital financing and its eventual sale to Oracle. Prior to Thor, he was a technology consultant to clients including Winstar, Teligent, MCI and Johnson & Higgins.

She has received an MBA from the University of Toronto, a Master in Computer Science from the University of Waterloo, and a Bachelor in Computer Science from Carleton. She has also completed the MIT Entrepreneurial Master’s program.
