Facebook COO Joins Company's Board 

Facebook added COO Sheryl Sandberg, 42, to the company's board of directors. Sandberg oversees Facebook's business operations including sales, marketing, business development, legal, human resources, public policy and communications. Prior to Facebook, Sandberg was VP of Global Online Sales and Operations at Google, where she built and managed the online sales channels for advertising and publishing and operations for consumer products worldwide. She previously served as Chief of Staff for the United States Treasury Department under President Bill Clinton and began her career as an economist with the World Bank. Sandberg also serves on the boards of The Walt Disney Company, Women for Women International, the Center for Global Development and V-Day.

Novatel Wireless Appoints Former CEO of Sage Software to Board 

Novatel Wireless, the provider of wireless solutions based on 2G, 3G and 4G technologies, appointed Sue Swenson, 63, to its board. Since 1994, she has been a director of Wells Fargo and is also a director on the boards of Spirent Communications and Harmonic. She recently retired as president and CEO of Sage Software. Before joining Sage she held positions in a variety of telecom companies, including COO of Atrinsic, COO of Amp'd Mobile, President and COO of Leap Wireless and President and CEO of Cellular One.

NCR Corporation Adds Influential Banker to Board 

NCR Corporation, the hardware, software apps, ATM machines, POS and Retail systems company, elected Deanna Oppenheimer, 52, to its board. She has been ranked as one of the most powerful women in banking and is the CEO at CameoWorks, where she advises global retail, technology and financial services firms. Most recently, she served as CEO, UK and Western Europe Retail/Business Banking and vice chair, Retail/Business Banking at Barclays. Previously and through her departure in 2005, Oppenheimer held several senior management positions at Washington Mutual which she joined in 20 years back, including president of Retail Banking and Financial Services. Currently, she serves as a non-executive director for Tesco. 

France based IT enabled business services firm names WordAppeal Co-founder to board 

Steria has also elected Laetitia Puyfaucher, 38, as member of the supervisory board. She is the Chairman and Co-founder of WordAppeal, providing clients with strategic guidance and developing new services. She is a shareholder in Pelham Media, WordAppeal’s parent company. 

TheStreet Appoints Aegis Media Exec to Board 

TheStreet, the online financial media company, appointed Sarah Fay, 49, to board as Ronni Ballowe, 54, resigns. Ms. Fay served as CEO of Aegis Media North America, a marketing services company, as CEO and President of Carat and Isobar, divisions of Aegis. Since leaving Aegis she has served on the boards of a number of digital advertising, marketing and technology companies, including NeoMedia Technologies, a mobile barcode technology company. 

Ronni Ballowe has served as a director of the Company since 2009. She spent 19 years at Ziff-Davis, a leading media company, serving in several senior executive positions, including Publisher of the flagship PC Magazine, Publisher of Computer Shopper and President of Ziff-Davis. After leaving Ziff-Davis in 1998, she turned her attention to helping non-profit organizations in strategic planning, marketing, fund-raising and organizational dynamics. More recently, she has been consulting to media and other companies in a variety of roles, including providing strategic advice to digital media companies. 

Compliance and Quality Management Solutions Company Names Chairman 

QUMAS, the leader in Compliance and Quality Management Solutions, appointed Margaret Rice-Jones, 50, as Chairman of the Board. Previously Margaret was Chairman of the Board at NewBay, a leading digital content services company recently acquired by RIM; CEO of Aircom International, a global software and services company; and Corporate VP of Motorola, where she ran both the IP and Switching Products Division and the EMEA region for the Networks business. She also has extensive consumer marketing experience from her time as Managing Director of Psion Computers and various roles with Motorola's mobile phone business.

Dora Vell

Dora Vell is the Managing Partner of Vell Executive Search, a boutique executive search firm in Boston focused on recruiting technology executives and board members. Vell has successfully completed numerous board member and C-level executive searches, including CEOs, COOs, CIOs, and Vice Presidents - at both public and private companies.

Prior to founding the firm in 2005, Vell was a Partner at Heidrick & Struggles' Technology practice for seven years.  Before her career in executive search, she worked at IBM for 11 years, managing software engineering organizations of 100 people and software sales organizations with revenues of $150 million. She has also served as an executive assistant to the CEO of IBM Canada for one year.

She has received an MBA from the University of Toronto, a Master in Computer Science from the University of Waterloo, and a Bachelor in Computer Science from Carleton. She has also completed the MIT Entrepreneurial Master’s program.
