Marvell Technology Director Resigns
Marvell Technology Group, a semiconductor manufacturer, announced that Director Dr. Ta-lin Hsu has resigned from the board. Hsu is the founder and chairman of H&Q Asia Pacific which he founded in 1986. Before that, he was a general partner at Hambrecht & Quist. Earlier in his career, he worked at IBM for 12 years and was most recently responsible for IBM’s advanced research in mass storage systems and technology.
Digital Realty Hires HP Exec as VP Sales, West US
Digital Realty Trust, the data center solutions company, named Mark T. Stephenson VP Sales, Western US. He joins from HP where he was VP, Sales, Networking Division. Before HP, he was Regional Operations Director at Cisco.
Research In Motion Appoints Wireless Veterans, Sony Mobile COO and Vodafone/Orange CMO
RIM hired Kristian Tear as RIM's new COO. He served as EVP of Sony Mobile Communications, Chairman of the Board of Sony Mobile Americas and Sony Mobile International, Chairman of the Product Business Council, and Chairman of the Accessories Business Unit. He has also served as a Board member of Sony Mobile Japan and China, Corporate VP of Sony Ericsson Western Europe, Corporate VP at Sony Ericsson Headquarters in London, and many other senior positions.
Frank Boulben is the new CMO. Boulben brings more than 20 years of international experience in the wireless industry with senior marketing and sales roles at global wireless carriers such as Vodafone and Orange. Most recently, he was the EVP for Strategy, Marketing and Sales for LightSquared.
Belden Appoints APAC Head
Cable and networking products maker Belden appointed Roel Vestjens as President, Asia Pacific Operations. He joined Belden in 2006 as Director of Marketing for the EMEA region. Vestjens joined Belden from Royal Philips Electronics where he held various sales and marketing positions and was responsible for the European Sales & Marketing of a B2B segment. Additionally, Vestjens has prior consulting experience with Cap Gemini and Ernst & Young.
QLogic Appoints APAC and Japan Head
Network connectivity products maker QLogic appointed Alex Tan as VP of Asia Pacific and Japan (APJ). Prior to joining QLogic, Tan served at Oracle as Senior Director, Strategy and Go-To-Market, Japan/Asia Pacific. Prior to Oracle, Tan was Regional Director of Asia Pacific Sales at UPEK (now AuthenTec) and had held positions as Regional Director, Strategic Accounts and Managing Director, DLT Business for Quantum's Asia Pacific division.
Veeco Board Changes, New Chairman Appointed
LED, solar and data storage process equipment company Veeco Instruments’ Board Chairman Edward H. Braun, 72, transitioned his Chairman role to John R. Peeler, 57, the current CEO of the company. Braun will remain an active member of the board. He served as Chairman from 2007. Before that, he was Chairman and CEO of Veeco since January 1990.
Peeler spent his early career in engineering, marketing and product development in the communications test equipment industry. He became President and CEO of TTC in 1992 and evolved the company to become Acterna, a provider of field service communications test products, which was later acquired by JDSU.
Director Joel A. Elftmann, 70, has also retired from the board after 18 years with Veeco. Elftmann is a veteran semiconductor equipment executive and was co-founder of FSI International and Metron Technology.
InterDigital Management Realignment
Wireless Communication technology company InterDigital realigned its executive management team. Scott A. McQuilkin, CFO since 2007, expands his role to oversee the company's corporate development and finance teams as Senior EVP, Strategy and Finance. Previously he was CFO for Metavante Lending Solutions. Before that he was the CFO of GHR Systems, which subsequently was acquired by Metavante.
Richard J. Brezski, the company’s CAO was named CFO. Brezski joined InterDigital as Controller in 2003 and was appointed CAO in 2007. Previously, he was an audit manager for PWC.
IDT Manufacturing Head Retires, Company Names Sales Head
Micheal Hunter has retired as the VP, Worldwide Manufacturing at Integrated Device Technology, an analog chipmaker. He joined IDTI in 1996. Prior to that, he held senior roles at Chartered Semiconductor, Fujitsu Personal Systems, Fairchild Semiconductor and Texas Instruments.
Tom Sparkman was named SVP, Worldwide Sales. Prior to joining IDT in late 2011, Sparkman was CEO of Samplify Systems. Sparkman joined Samplify with 23 years of semiconductor experience, mostly at Maxim Integrated Products, an international supplier of analog and mixed-signal products.
Brooks Automation Appoints Former CEO of Tufts Medical Centre as Director
Brooks Automation elected Ellen M. Zane, 59, to its Board. Zane recently retired as the President and CEO of Tufts Medical Center and Floating Hospital for Children in Boston, and currently serves on its board of trustees as Vice Chairman. Prior to joining Tufts Medical Center, Zane held the position of Network President for Partners HealthCare System. Zane was also recently named one of the ten most powerful women in healthcare by HealthExecNews.com.
Micrel Promotes Marketing and Supply Chain Heads
Wiren Perera has been promoted to VP, Corporate Strategic Marketing of Micrel, the analog, high bandwidth communications and Ethernet IC solutions company. Prior to Micrel he was at JDSU, PMC-Sierra and NEC. He’s a founding business executive at Stream Machine, a digital living room solutions provider.
Micrel's High Bandwidth Marketing Director, Rami Kanama, was promoted to VP, Clock and Timing Products. He is also the President of Micrel’s recently acquired subsidiary PhaseLink. Prior to joining Micrel, he was the VP, Marketing and Sales at Redfern Integrated Optics and held various marketing and business development management roles at Infineon Technologies and Tyco Electronics.
Robert Wahl has been promoted to MD of Worldwide Supply Chain Management and Backend Operations. Previously he held sales operations, supply chain management and operations roles at Cortina Systems, Cypress Semiconductor, Xilink, EXAR and NeoMagic.
Internap Network Services CFO Change
George E. Kilguss III, 50, resigned as SVP and CFO of Internap Network Services Corporation. Previously he served as CFO of Towerstream and EVP and CFO of Stratos Global.
John D. Maggard, 43, VP and Corporate Controller, will assume the role of the Principal Accounting Officer. He joined the company in 2009, before which he served as VP, Internal Audit & Controls at Beazer Homes and as Senior Manager at The Home Depot.
Entropic Communications Director Resigns
Thomas Baruch, 72, has resigned from the board at Entropic, a semiconductor company. He joined the board in 2001. He is the Founder and Partner Emeritus of CMEA Capital. He founded CMEA Capital in 1989 after founding and serving as CEO of Microwave Technology. He has been one of the original investors in Aclara Biosciences, Entropic, Flextronics, Netro, Silicon Spice, Symyx, Battelle Development and Exxon.
Extreme Networks Announces Changes in Channels and Sales/Services Leaders
Extreme Networks appointed Theresa Caragol as VP, Worldwide Channels. Most recently, she was the VP, Channels and Alliances at Ciena. Caragol brings 17 years of networking experience with IBM, Nortel, Bay Networks.
The company also appointed two new sales leaders in APAC. Former Cisco executive Joy Ghosh has been named VP, Asia Sales and Chiradeep Rao was named Country Sales Manager, India.
Michael L. Seaton, 46, resigned as VP of Worldwide Sales and Services. He oversaw the delivery of technical support, education, advanced technical and professional services. Prior to joining Extreme Networks, he held various positions at AT&T, Lucent Technologies and Avaya throughout his career.
ShoreTel Sees Series of Leadership Changes
Joe Vitalone returned to ShoreTel, the VoIP products company, to lead channel management. He was formerly with LifeSize where he served as VP, Sales, Americas. Prior to LifeSize, he was VP, North America Sales for ShoreTel.
Timothy C. Gaines was named VP, North America Sales. He joined ShoreTel in 2007. Prior to ShoreTel, Gaines served as SVP, Sales at Covad (now MegaPath). Previously Gaines served as regional director and GM for a U.S. subsidiary of Fujitsu, where he developed the PBX switching systems business in the U.S.
Mark Arman is now VP, International Sales and Worldwide Distribution. He joined ShoreTel in 2006 and led business development efforts, including strategic planning, M&A, and global channel processes. Before joining ShoreTel, Arman was founding CEO of WindSpring, CEO of Conferserv and a Manager with LEK Consulting.
Symmetricom Fills New CTO Role
Timing technologies and communications equipment company Symmetricom appointed James Armstrong to the new role of CTO. He joined Symmetricom in 2006 as VP of Engineering and has been leading the communications business segment as the EVP and GM for the last four years. Prior to joining Symmetricom, Armstrong was President of Movidis.
Imation R&D and Technology Executive Leaves
Storage and data security company Imation’s CTO and SVP, OEM and Emerging Businesses, Subodh Kulkarni, 46, will be leaving the company. He has been with Imation since 1996. Prior to assuming his current responsibilities, he served as VP, Global Commercial Business and VP, R&D and Manufacturing. Kulkarni began his technical career in 1989 as a research engineer at IBM and later joined 3M as a senior research engineer.
CFO Change at API Technologies
Semiconductor company API Technologies appointed Phil Rehkemper as CFO following the retirement of Jack Freeman. For the last nine years, Rehkemper was with International Rectifier, most recently as VP, Finance. Prior to International Rectifier, he was CFO & VP Finance at Alliance Fiber Optic Products.
Retiring CFO Jack Freeman served as CFO of API since its merger with Spectrum Control. Prior to joining API, Freeman had been a Director and CFO of Spectrum Control for over 21 years.
Network Infrastructure Company Echelon EVP and Former CFO Retires
Oliver R. Stanfield, 62, retired as EVP of Echelon. He is a 22 year veteran of the company. In 2011, he retired as the company's CFO Stanfield will remain employed by the company in a non-executive capacity. He joined Echelon from ROLM, where he served in several positions since 1980.
Alcatel-Lucent Financial Expert Named to Radisys Board
Wireless Infrastructure provider Radisys appointed Hubert de Pesquidoux, former CFO of Alcatel-Lucent and President for Enterprise Business, to its Board. Currently, he is CEO of HDP Consulting. During his nearly 20 year tenure at Alcatel-Lucent he held positions such as North America President and CEO, Canada CEO, and USA CFO.
TiVUS Names LodgeNet Veteran as EVP, Channel Partners
Wireless Internet company TiVUS named Steven D. Truckenmiller as EVP, Channel Partners. He is a founding shareholder and 25 year veteran of LodgeNet, an interactive media company. Prior to joining LodgeNet, he was in the franchised cable TV business.
MoSys Director Resigns
Semiconductor memory technology company MoSys director Carl E. Berg retires from the board after almost 20 years of service. Since 1979, Berg has been a general partner of Berg & Berg Developers and has been a director and officer of Berg & Berg Enterprises. Berg has been actively engaged in venture capital investments and currently serves as Board Chairman of Valence Technology and Hancock Fabrics.
Aware Board Changes
Aware, the signal processing and digital communications technology company, announced that director Mark G. McGrath, 64, resigned from the board. McGrath retired as a Director of McKinsey in 2004, having served in the firm for 27 years. He led the firm’s Americas’ Consumer Goods Practice.
Brent P. Johnstone has been appointed as new Director to the Aware board. Johnstone currently serves as CEO of Royal Pet Supplies and is also a Managing Director for Quarry Capital, a private investment firm which he co-founded in 2005. Previously, he served as VP in the investment management division at Thomson Financial. He also worked on Lehman Brothers and Morgan Stanley's real estate and technology corporate finance teams.
Ramtron International Appoints CFO
Semiconductor company Ramtron International named Gery E. Richards, 60, as CFO. He joined the company in 2006 and served as interim CFO since October 2011. Prior to joining Ramtron, he was VP, Finance at Facilitek Office Systems and VP, Finance at Photo Stencil Corporation. He began his career as an auditor with Price Waterhouse and later served as an auditor, financial analyst, controller and cost accountant for Martin Marietta, Digital Equipment, United Technologies and Apple.
Vitesse Semiconductor Appoints Well-known Investor to Board
Vitesse Semiconductor appointed Scot B. Jarvis, 50, to its board. Jarvis co-founded Cedar Grove Partners, an investment and consulting/advisory partnership and is currently a managing member. He is also a venture partner with Oak Investment Partners. Previously he served as a senior executive of Eagle River, a Craig McCaw investment firm. From 1985 to 1994, he served in several executive capacities at McCaw Cellular Communications up until it was sold to AT&T.
Alvarion Director Leaves
Israel based wireless products company Alvarion director Eng Ho Ng, 56, resigned from the board. He is an Executive Director of Audelia, a Singapore based investment and management consulting company which he founded. Previously, he served as an EVP at ST Telemedia. Earlier in his career, he was an Officer in the Singapore Armed forces.
Qualstar Appoints New CEO
Data storage magnetic tape provider Qualstar appointed Lawrence D. Firestone, 54, to the position of President & CEO. Firestone joined Qualstar's Board in May 2011. He has over 30 years of operations and financial management experience, including significant turnaround and M&A expertise. He is currently the CFO of Xiotech, a supplier of enterprise storage systems. Previously, he has been EVP of Advanced Energy Industries.
