Executive & Board Restructuring Continues at Yahoo!

Yahoo! has appointed John Hayes, 56, as a Director. Currently, Hayes serves as EVP & Chief Marketing Officer at American Express. Previously, he was the EVP of Global Advertising & Brand Management at American Express and the President of Lowe & Partners. Earlier in his career, Hayes was a director of the Association of National Advertisers and Wyndham Vacation Resorts.

Peter Liguori, 50, the former COO & Senior EVP of Discovery Communications, has also been named to the company’s Board of Directors. Before joining Discovery, he was the Chairman of Entertainment at Fox Broadcasting Network. Prior to that, he served as CEO of FX Networks and as VP of Consumer Marketing at HBO. Earlier in his career, he worked at Saatchi & Saatchi and Ogilvy & Mather Advertising. He currently serves on the boards of The Topps Company and MGM Studios.

Yahoo! has also appointed Thomas McInerney, 46, the former CFO of IAC, to the company’s Board of Directors. Before being named CFO, he was the CEO of IAC's Retailing sector. Prior to that, McInerney was the EVP & CFO of Ticketmaster. Earlier in his career, he was an investment banker at Morgan Stanley. Currently, he serves on the boards of HSN and Interval Leisure Group.

Sam Shrauger has joined Yahoo! as SVP & Co-Lead of the new Consumer Commerce Business Unit. Most recently, he was the VP of Global Product & Design at PayPal. Earlier in his career, Shrauger served as a Client Partner at Agency.com and as a Product Manager at VerticalNet.

The company has also selected Mollie Spilman to serve as SVP & Co-Lead of the Consumer Commerce Business Unit alongside Shrauger. Both executives will report to CEO Scott Thompson and will sit on the Executive Leadership Team. A current Yahoo! executive, she most recently led marketing for Yahoo!'s Americas region. Earlier in her career, Spilman held marketing & advertising roles at AOL, Time Warner, Meredith Corporation, Discovery Networks, and Advertising.com.

Blake Irving, the EVP & Chief Product Officer, has resigned from his roles at the company. Prior to joining Yahoo!, he served as a faculty member at Pepperdine University’s Graziadio School of Business and Management. Before that, Irving held a variety of senior positions at Microsoft, most recently as Corporate VP of the Windows Live Platform group. Before joining Microsoft, he served as a Product Manager at Compaq and Oki Printing Solutions. Irving began his career at Xerox .

Two Key Members at Yahoo! Labs Leave the Company

Andrei Broder has resigned from his roles as a Yahoo! Fellow, VP of Computational Advertising, and Chief Scientist for the Advertising Products Group. Before joining the company, he was an IBM Distinguished Engineer and CTO of the Institute for Search & Text Analysis in IBM Research. Earlier in his career, he was VP of Research & Chief Scientist at Alta Vista.

Dr. Jianchang Mao, the Head of Advertising Sciences, has also departed from Yahoo! Before joining Yahoo!, Mao was the Director of Emerging Technologies & Principal Architect at Verity, a leader in Enterprise Search. Earlier in his career, he was a Research Staff member at the IBM Almaden Research Center.

New President of PayPal Selected; VP Leaves for Yahoo!

David Marcus has been promoted to President of PayPal from his recent position as VP & GM of Mobile. He succeeds Scott Thompson, who left the company to become the CEO of Yahoo! Marcus joined PayPal in 2011 after the company acquired Zong, a leading provider of mobile payments which he founded. Before founding Zong, he was the CEO & Founder of Echovox and GTN Telecom.

PayPal also announced the departure of Sam Shrauger, the VP of Global Product & Design. Shrauger has joined Yahoo! as SVP & Co-Lead of the Consumer Commerce Business Unit. President David Marcus will serve in Shrauger’s position on an interim basis.

Board Member Leaves Internet Service Provider

CenturyLink announced the resignation of Edward Mueller, 64, from the company’s Board of Directors. Most recently, he served as the Chairman & CEO of Qwest, a telecommunications carrier which was acquired by CenturyLink in 2010. Before Qwest, Mueller served as the CEO of Williams-Sonoma. Prior to joining Williams-Sonoma, he held a variety of executive level positions with several telecom companies, including Ameritech, SBC International Operations, Pacific Bell, and Southwestern Bell Telephone. Mueller currently serves as a director at The Clorox Company and McKesson. Earlier in his career, he served as a Director of GSC Acquisition Company, Verisign, and Williams-Sonoma.

She has received an MBA from the University of Toronto, a Master in Computer Science from the University of Waterloo, and a Bachelor in Computer Science from Carleton. She has also completed the MIT Entrepreneurial Master’s program.
