SVP Promoted to CIO at Starbucks

Starbucks has promoted Curt Garner from SVP of Business Technology to CIO. While at Starbucks, he also served as the VP of Global Retail Technology, VP of International IT, and Director of International IT & Global Business Systems. Earlier in his career, he served as the Manager of International IT at Wendy’s International.

Insurance Company Promotes VP

Prudential Group Insurance, a division of Prudential Financial, promoted Joseph Hayes to VP of Information Systems & CIO. Most recently, he served as VP of IT Operations for Prudential Annuities. Prior to joining Prudential, Hayes served as an Assistant VP of Mutual Fund Systems at Merrill Lynch.

KeyBank Recruits Former Bank of America Exec


KeyCorp has appointed Amy Brady as the company’s new CIO. Most recently, she served as CIO, Enterprise Technology & Operations at Bank of America. During her 25 year career at Bank of America, Brady held a variety of senior roles, including SVP & Head of Global Integrated Business Technology Services and Operations Executive of Consumer & Corporate Staff Technology.

Former Microsoft Exec Joins Timber Company


Plum Creek Timber, the largest private landowner in the US and a producer of timber, has appointed Mark Miller as VP & CIO. Miller's professional career encompasses over 20 years in enterprise technology management. Most recently, he was a Senior IT Director at Microsoft. Before Microsoft, he was an IT Director at Weyerhaeuser, an international forest products company. He has also served as the VP & GM at Interlink and as the CEO of Equarius.

New CIO at Insurance Company


AXIS Capital Holdings has appointed Koorosh Beigian as CIO & EVP. Most recently, he served as CTO at ACE Group, a provider of commercial property and casualty insurance. Before joining ACE Group, Beigian was the Global CIO at Combined Insurance Company of America. Earlier in his career, he served as a Consulting Associate at AIG American General.

Packaged Bakery Foods Company Selects CIO


Flower Foods has named Dave Hubbard as VP & CIO. Most recently, Hubbard served as the company's VP of IT Technology & Development. Before joining Flowers Foods, he served as a consultant at IBM and PricewaterhouseCoopers.

CTO Departure at AOL


AOL announced the resignation of EVP & CTO Alex Gounares, 38. Gounares came to AOL from Microsoft, where he most recently served as VP of Advertising R&D and CTO for the Online Services Division. At Microsoft, he also served as Technical Assistant to Bill Gates, VP of Corporate Strategy, and as a Development Manager for the Tablet PC team.

Domino’s Names New CIO


Domino’s Pizza has appointed Kevin Vasconi, 51, as EVP & CIO. Most recently, he served as CIO & VP of Engineering at Stanley Security Solutions, a division of Stanley Black & Decker which designs security products for home and business. Before joining Stanley Security Solutions, he was SVP & CIO of R.L. Polk, a provider of automotive information and marketing solutions to the automotive industry. Prior to R L Polk, he was the SVP & CTO at Covisint, a joint venture between Ford, GM, Daimler Chrysler, Renault, Nissan, Oracle, and Commerce One. Earlier in his career, he was the CTO at AutoXchange, a joint venture between Ford & Oracle.

CNO Financial Group has selected Sean Fallon as the company’s new VP & CTO. Before this appointment, he served as VP of Application Development & Group Protection at Lincoln Financial Group. Prior to Lincoln Financial, Fallon held senior leadership roles with CUNA Mutual Group.

Consumer Electronics and Personal Computer Retailer Appoints Divisional CIO


Systemax appointed Michael Jones as CIO of its North American Technology Products Group. Most recently, he served as CIO for Michael’s Stores, where he was responsible for redesigning Michaels.com as well as applying new financial and workforce management systems. He began his career at Kmart, where he led the execution of a new logistics management system.

NY Times Promotes Former Dow Jones & AOL Exec


The New York Times has promoted Marc Frons, 55, to the position of CIO. Most recently, Frons served as CTO of Digital Operations for the company’s Media Group. Before joining the New York Times, he worked at Dow Jones as VP & CTO for its Consumer Media Group. Frons also served at AOL Time Warner as VP and GM of AOL Personal Finance and then as a Consulting Editor for CNN Money. Earlier in his career, he was a Reporter & Editor at Newsweek, a Senior Editor at BusinessWeek, and the CTO & Editor at SmartMoney.com.

Dora Vell

Dora Vell is the Managing Partner of Vell Executive Search, a boutique executive search firm in Boston focused on recruiting technology executives and board members. Vell has successfully completed numerous board member and C-level executive searches, including CEOs, COOs, CIOs, and Vice Presidents - at both public and private companies.
