Former IBM GM on Biopharma Board

Celgene has elected Dr. Richard Barker to its Board of Directors. Most recently, he served as the Director General of the Association of the British Pharmaceutical Industry (ABPI). Earlier in his career, Barker was the CEO of Chiron Diagnostics, a biopharma company specializing in vaccines and blood testing. Before joining Chiron, he served as the GM of IBM's Worldwide Healthcare Solutions Division and as a Leader of McKinsey & Company's European Healthcare Practice.

Former Texas Instruments Chairman Joins JC Penney

JC Penney announced that Thomas J. Engibous, 58, the former Chairman & CEO of Texas Instruments, has been selected as the company’s new Chairman. He joined the company’s Board in 1999 and was appointed Lead Independent Director in 2008. Engibous joined TI in 1976 and served as its President & CEO from 1996 to 2004. He also serves as a Director of Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company.

Cosmetics Company Hires eCommerce Veteran

Ulta Beauty announced that Catherine Halligan has been appointed to its Board of Directors. Currently, Halligan serves as an Advisor at PowerReviews, a provider of social commerce and customer reviews solutions. Before being named as an Advisor, she was the company’s SVP of Sales & Marketing. Prior to joining PowerReviews, she served as the VP of Market Development for Global eCommerce at Walmart. She has also served as the CMO at Walmart.com, Associate Partner at Prophet, VP of Direct Marketing for Blue Nile, and VP & GM of Internet at Williams Sonoma. She began her career as a Marketing Coordinator at Lands' End.

Retail Company Recruits Google’s Global Marketing Head


Williams-Sonoma has elected Lorraine Twohill, the Global Marketing Head of Google, to serve on the company’s Board. Before being appointed as the Global Marketing Head, she served as the VP of Marketing for EMEA at Google. Before joining Google, she was the Head of Marketing for Opodo Limited, an Internet travel agency website. Twohill was named as Adweek's Grand Brand Genius in 2001 for her efforts in shaping Google's marketing efforts.

Semiconductor Equipment Manufacturer Board Member Joins Chemical Company

OM Group has named Hans-Georg Betz, 64, as a Director of the company. Most recently, Betz served as the CEO of Advanced Energy, a provider of power conversion products. Prior to Advanced Energy, he was the CEO of Envara, a semiconductor developer. Before that, he was the Founder & CEO of West Steag Partners, a venture capitalist firm, and the CEO of Steag Electronics Systems. He began his career as a Scientist at the Fraunhofer Institute of Semiconductor Technology. Currently, he serves as the Chairman of Mattson Technology, a manufacturer of semiconductor wafer processing equipment.

Dora Vell

Dora Vell is the Managing Partner of Vell Executive Search, a boutique executive search firm in Boston focused on recruiting technology executives and board members. She has received an MBA from the University of Toronto, a Master in Computer Science from the University of Waterloo, and a Bachelor in Computer Science from Carleton. She has also completed the MIT Entrepreneurial Master’s program.
