Former Federal CIO Joins Salesforce.com

Salesforce.com has hired former U.S. Federal CIO Vivek Kundra, 37, as its EVP of Emerging Markets. Kundra was the first CIO of the United States and was hired by the Obama administration in March 2009. He left this job in August 2011 to become a Joint Fellow at Harvard University’s John F. Kennedy School of Government and the Berkman Center for Internet and Society. Before serving as the Federal CIO, Kundra was the CTO for the District of Columbia and the Assistant Secretary of Commerce and Technology for the State of Virginia.

Akamai Hires IBM CSO

Akamai Technologies has appointed Mark Vargo as the SVP & GM for the EMEA region. Before this appointment, he served as the Chief Strategy Officer for IBM's Northern European Systems and Technology Group. Prior to IBM, Vargo held senior management roles at IDC, GiantLoop Networks, Memorex Telex, and EMC.

Intralinks Recruits New General Counsel


IntraLinks, a provider of virtual data rooms, has appointed Scott Semel, 54, as EVP, General Counsel, and Corporate Secretary. Most recently, he served as SVP, General Counsel, and Secretary at Novell. Before Novell, he was the Chief Legal Officer and Corporate Secretary at Tele Atlas, a geographic information systems provider. Earlier in his career, Semel served as the VP, General Counsel, and Secretary at Ascential Software and NaviSite.

Communications Simplifier Names Head of BD


SMTP, Inc., a provider of cloud services for email delivery, selected Jorge Casas as the new Director of Business Development and Customer Service. Previously, he served as the Multilingual Customer Service and Export Supervisor for Prestolite Electric. Before Prestolite, Casas was a Multilingual Consultant at Volvo Parts Customer Solutions.

Business Connectivity Software Provider Appoints VP


GraphOn announced that it has appointed Christoph Berlin as the new VP of Product Management and Marketing. Most recently, he served as Senior Manager of Citrix Systems' XenClient Partner Management team. Before joining Citrix Systems, Berlin was Manager of XenServer Engineering Escalations at XenSource, a provider of virtualization solutions which was acquired by Citrix Systems.

Dora Vell

Dora Vell is the Managing Partner of Vell Executive Search, a boutique executive search firm in Boston focused on recruiting technology executives and board members. Vell has successfully completed numerous board member and C-level executive searches, including CEOs, COOs, CIOs, and Vice Presidents - at both public and private companies.

Vell is a member of the National Association of Corporate Directors (NACD), the Boston CEO Roundtable. She has served on the boards of Framingham State, Entrepreneur's Organization, Goodwill, Mary Centre for developmentally handicapped adults, garage.ca, and RBC Capital Partners.

She has received an MBA from the University of Toronto, a Master in Computer Science from the University of Waterloo, and a Bachelor in Computer Science from Carleton. She has also completed the MIT Entrepreneurial Master’s program.
