Co-CEOs Resign at RIM

RIM announced that Mike Lazaridis and Jim Balsillie have resigned as Co-CEOs & Co-Chairmen of the company. Lazaridis will stay on the Board as Vice Chairman and Balsillie will serve as a Director. In response to the resignations, the company has named COO Thorsten Heins as CEO of the company. Prior to joining RIM in 2007, Heins served as the CTO of Siemens' Communications Division. Barbara Stymiest, a Board Member since 2007, has been named as the company’s new Independent Chairman.

Ericsson Promotes Insider to CTO Role

Ericsson promoted Ulf Ewaldsson to CTO, SVP, and Head of Group Function Technology & Portfolio Management. Most recently, he was the Head of the Radio Product Group at the company. He is also a member of Ericsson’s Research Board. Ewaldsson has more than twenty years of experience in product management, industry development, and customer relationship management.

CFO Departure at Nortel


Nortel Networks announced the resignation of John Doolittle, 47, as CFO & SVP of Corporate Services. Before this appointment, he served as the company’s VP of Financial Planning & Analysis, VP of Tax, and Treasurer. Before joining Nortel, he served as CFO & EVP at CCL Industries and VP of Finance at The Bank of Montreal.

Network Hardware Company Selects New COO and SVP of Engineering


Acme Packet has appointed Steven Aulds as the company’ new SVP of Engineering. Aulds joins Acme Packet from IBM, where he was in charge of development for the B2B and commerce business unit. Prior to that, he served as the SVP of Engineering at Sterling Commerce, which was acquired by IBM in 2010.

Also, the company promoted Dino DiPalma to COO from his earlier role as SVP of WW Sales & Business Development. Before joining Acme Packet in 2001, DiPalma was the VP of CALA Sales & Business Development at Sema Priority Call, a developer of telecom solutions for public networks.

Dora Vell

Dora Vell is the Managing Partner of Vell Executive Search, a boutique executive search firm in Boston focused on recruiting technology executives and board members. Vell has successfully completed numerous board member and C-level executive searches, including CEOs, COOs, CIOs, and Vice Presidents - at both public and private companies.

Vell is a member of the National Association of Corporate Directors (NACD), the Boston CEO Roundtable. She has served on the boards of Framingham State, Entrepreneur's Organization, Goodwill, Mary Centre for developmentally handicapped adults, garage.ca, and RBC Capital Partners.

She has received an MBA from the University of Toronto, a Master in Computer Science from the University of Waterloo, and a Bachelor in Computer Science from Carleton. She has also completed the MIT Entrepreneurial Master’s program.
