CEO Assumes Chairman Role at Verizon; New Board Member Elected
Verizon has confirmed that CEO Lowell McAdam, 56, has replaced Ivan Seidenberg, 65, as Chairman of the Board. Before becoming CEO, McAdam held the titles of COO of Verizon and EVP, COO, and CEO of Verizon Wireless. Prior to joining Verizon, he was the CEO of Primeco, a wireless joint venture between AirTouch and Bell Atlantic.
The company also named Melanie Healey, 50, to its Board. Currently, Healey serves at Procter & Gamble as Group President of North America and Global Hyper, Super, Mass Channel. She also serves on the boards of P&G, Verizon, and Bacardi. Since joining P&G in 1990, she has held senior roles in the Feminine, Healthcare, and Adult Care divisions. Healey was named one of Forbes’ Top 50 Most Powerful Women Leaders and one of Wall Street Journal’s Top 50 Women to Watch.
Founding Member Resigns from Qualcomm Board
Qualcomm announced that co-founder Dr. Irwin Mark Jacobs, 78, has resigned from the company’s Board. He served as CEO of Qualcomm from 1985 to 2005 and as Chairman until 2009. Early in his career, Jacobs co-founded Linkabit, a designer and developer of communications equipment which was later sold to M/A-Com. Jacobs is currently Chair of the Salk Institute for Biological Studies and of the National Academy of Engineering. He has received many business accolades over the years, including the National Medal of Technology in 1994, the IEEE Alexander Graham Bell medal in 1995, the Financial Times Lifetime Achievement award (for 25 years in Telecommunications) in 2005, the IEEE and Royal Society of Edinburgh James Clerk Maxwell Award in 2007, and the Marconi Society Prize in 2011.
New Chairman at Harris
Harris, a wireless network transmission equipment manufacturer, has appointed Thomas Dattilo, 59, as Chairman. He has been on the Harris Board since 2001. Dattilo also sits on the Board of Directors at Alberto Culver, a household brands manufacturer. Earlier in his career, he served as a Senior Advisor for the Cerberus Operations & Advisory Company and as the Chairman & CEO of Cooper Tire & Rubber. Prior to joining Cooper, he held senior positions at the Dana Holding Corporation, a supplier to vehicular and industrial manufacturers. Dattilo has also served as the Chairman of the Rubber Manufacturers Association.
New Board Member at Specialized Semiconductor Company
NVIDIA has appointed Robert Burgess, 53, to be the company’s newest Board Member. Currently, he serves on the boards of Adobe Systems and IMRIS, a provider of image-guided therapy solutions. Most recently, Burgess served as CEO & Executive Chairman of Macromedia, a provider of Internet and multimedia software. Prior to joining Macromedia, he was the CEO of Alias Research, a 3D software company, and held various executive positions at Silicon Graphics.
Former Logitech CFO on Seagate Board
Seagate Technology, a leading manufacturer of hard disks and storage solutions, has appointed Kristen Onken, 62, to its Board. Most recently, she served as CFO of Logitech International. Prior to Logitech, Onken was the VP of Finance at Fujitsu and Director of Finance at Sun Microsystems. She currently serves on the Board of Silicon Laboratories.
New Director at Customer Management Solutions Provider
Convergys has elected Joan Herman, 57, to the company’s Board. Currently, she serves as the CEO of Herman & Associates, a healthcare and management consulting firm. Prior to founding Herman & Associates, she was the CEO of WellPoint's Consumer Business Unit. Before Wellpoint, Herman spent around 16 years at Phoenix Life Insurance and eventually served as the SVP of Strategic Development. Herman currently sits on the Board of Directors of MRV Communications.
Telecom Equipment Manufacturer Adds to Board
ARRIS Group has selected Andrew Heller to join its Board. Currently, Heller is Vice Chairman and Senior Advisor at Turner Broadcasting System. Heller joined TBS in 1998 and most recently served as President of Domestic Distribution. Before being named Vice Chairman, he was the Assistant General Counsel for Time Warner Cable. Prior to that, he served as Associate Counsel for HBO. In 2011, Heller was inducted into the Broadcasting & Cable Hall of Fame.
New Board Member at Analytic Software & Hardware Provider
Susan Bowick, 62, has joined the Board of Verint Systems. She currently serves on the Board of Verint’s parent company, Comverse Technology. She also serves as a Director at EarthLink. Bowick has extensive experience as a consultant, including work with IBM, Nokia Siemens, HP, and SAP. Prior to her work as a consultant, she served in various executive roles at HP, most recently as the EVP of HR & Workforce Development.
IT Services Company Names New Director
Unisys has appointed Nathaniel Davis, 57, to its Board. Currently, he serves as a Managing Director of the RANND Advisory Group, a business consulting group that advises software, technology, media, and venture capital firms. He also sits on the Board of K12 and is a Trustee of the RLJ Lodging Trust. Prior to RANND, Davis was CEO & COO of XM Satellite Radio and COO of XO Communications. Earlier in his career, he held senior management roles at Nextel, MCI Communications, and AT&T.
Executive Chairman Named at Unified Service Delivery Management Solutions Provider
NetScout Systems promoted CFO David Sommers to the role of Executive Vice Chairman. While CFO, he also held the titles of SVP of Operations, Treasurer, and Secretary. Before joining NetScout, Sommers was SVP & CFO at Flexiinternational Software, a developer of financial accounting software. He has also served as SVP & CFO of Lotus Development Corporation and as CFO of SystemSoft Corporation.
