Cisco Hires SVP for New Division
Cisco announced that it has hired Chris Young to serve as SVP of the newly formed Cisco Security Group. Young comes to Cisco from VMware, where he was the SVP & GM of End User Computing. At VMware, he was responsible for strategy, products, engineering, and delivery for all end user computing solutions. Prior to joining VMware, Young was SVP at RSA, the security division of EMC. He also sits on the Board of Directors for Rapid 7, a provider of security risk intelligence solutions.
Wireless Network Transmission Equipment Company Promotes VPs
Harris announced that Brendan O’Connell has been named as President of Harris’ International business unit. Most recently, O’Connell served as the President of the U.S. Department of Defense (DoD) business unit. Prior to serving as President, he was the VP of Sales for the U.S. DoD business unit, the Director of European & Central Asia Sales, and the Director of Asia Pacific & Middle East Sales.
George Helm, the VP of the long-term evolution (LTE) business for Public Safety and Professional Communications business, will replace O’Connell as the new President of the U.S. DoD business unit. Before joining the Public Safety and Professional Communications business, Helm served as the VP & GM of the Government Products business unit.
Head of RIM India Leaves Company
RIM announced that Frenny Bawa, 51, the MD for India, has quit the company to pursue other interests. Prior to her time at RIM, Bawa served as a Product Manager at Motorola and held senior roles at TELUS. While a replacement has yet to be named, Urpo Karjalainen, the SVP of Greater China & India, will oversee operations in India in an interim capacity.
New COO at Alcatel-Lucent Subsidiary
LGS Innovations, a networking solutions provider to the U.S. Federal Government, announced that Kevin Kelly has been appointed as COO. Prior to this appointment, he served as VP of Corporate Strategy at the company. Earlier in his career, Kelly was the Division Director of Technology at General Dynamics. He has also held the title of Senior Systems Engineer at Lucent Technologies and Lockheed Martin.
President Promoted at Advanced Communications Solutions Provider
Comtech Telecommunications announced that Paul Lithgow has been selected to be President of its subsidiary company Comtech Mobile Datacom Corporation. Lithgow will also continue to serve in his current role as President of Comtech AeroAstro. Prior to joining Comtech, he was the Director of Advanced Concepts at Radyne, a provider of induction power supplies. He has also held senior titles at General Dynamics and Spectrum Astro. Lithgow began his career with the U.S. Air Force.
Network Access Device Maker Hires Former Apple Exec as CFO
Echelon announced that Bill Slakey, 52, has been named as the company’s new EVP & CFO. Most recently, he served as the CFO of LiveOps, a provider of contact center software and call center outsourcing. Earlier in his career, Slakey served as CFO at Extreme Networks, Handspring, WJ Communications, and SnapTrack. He has also held senior financial positions at Apple Computer, Palm Computing, and 3Com Corporation.
